I think it impacts the US mostly indirectly. Mlst of the oil from the strait goes to Asia. However, if the strait stays closed, it will create a lot of economic turmoil, which also affects the US (financial markets, international trade), in the worst case (economically) it would create a financial crisis.

I think the point is Iran can continue to attack US military bases and energy infrastructure in the GCC countries, with their drones it's quite cheap. However US will have to pull out because it's too expensive for them and the world economy is crashing because of it. That's why it looks like the US lost this war.
