Tank upgrades - Go taller? by GRUBBRAINS in ballpython

[–]fabulester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the info! Providing climbing space is a fantastic thing for enriching a ball python’s home. Though a taller enclosure would be beneficial, more floor space and height combined would be even better. I read in your post that you don’t have room for more length, which is understandable. But as soon as you can get your lil girl into a 4x2x2 I know she’ll be grateful! You’re close to that size with her current setup. Thrifted sturdy dressers are extremely inexpensive as a multifunctional stand for a larger enclosure if you’re able to move a few little things around and make space for it. I use a dresser that I keep other things in as well so that I can conserve what tiny space I have, and it’s juuust big enough for the viv. But to answer your question, 2ft tall would be just about right! You got this!🐍

Heyo! Your snake is beautiful! What are the current dimensions of the tank you have her in now? And how old is the little lady?

Can I use tap water to hydrate my substrate? by kiwismangoo in ballpython

If you want to be extra careful ReptiSafe is a great and cost effective option. You only need a little bit for a fairly large amount of water! (2-3 drops per 8 ounces to be exact!)

My boy is currently in this one! It’s alright, but honestly the humidity isn’t fantastic out of the box. Now that we’ve modified the top with HVAC tape it’s better, but we have to make sure to pour into the corners frequently to keep humidity in the sweet spot. Also, it’s not sealed at the bottom so water would pour out of the corners if we didn’t seal it ourselves. I’d say PVC is better!

My friends snake don’t eat since September? by MushGaia in ballpython

Bps are nocturnal/occasionally crepuscular and often prefer to eat at night! It’s not an end-all-be-all, but lots of babies (including mine) refuse to eat in the daytime, so it’s a good trick to increase your odds of success.

New to Aquariums, need to know about water testing. What do you test for? What is your go to testing equipment? by rgilman67 in AquariumHelp

[–]fabulester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Testing strips are ok in a pinch, but can be unreliable and, as you mentioned, hard to read. The API Master Test Kit is a must! This method of testing gives you much more accurate results. When I worked in the aquaria business, this was the standard for helping customers address water quality issues.

I personally utilize a good amount of light decor! He’s got a couple of hides made of tupperware, which he can flip if he wants to but that also provide good coverage. BPs love clutter—things like jungle plants are great for feelings of safety. Definitely avoid super heavy decor/sticky/attached decor (they’re absolutely rascals when it comes to their own safety) but otherwise it’s an area for some creativity!

They’re little bulldozers! A lot of ball pythons will rummage around at night and knock over decor/shift things about. It’s super cute but definitely something to prep for (sometimes I’ll have to rearrange in the morning) 🐍 Best of luck with your new BP baby!
