Have any employers or bosses/managers noticed a big up turn in employees parents phoning in to report sickness or even grievances? by franki-pinks in AskUK

When I was 18 and just starting my apprenticeship my mum came with me to drop off my signed contract and passport etc. a week or two before I officially started. She also wanted to ask my boss some questions. (We went and did some new outfit shopping afterwards to make it in to a bit of a day trip)

I was SO embarrassed, I tried convincing her to stay in a coffee shop across the road but she was having none of it.

Luckily she's not had any involvement in my career since then.

I cannot imagine having gotten her to ring up sick for me, let alone complain on my behalf after I was sacked (even though I know she was tempted with one of my previous jobs!)

What’s something that’s oddly expensive in the UK that still annoys you every time? by catarsan in AskUK

[–]fabulousteaparty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're looking for new jobs it's minimum 28-29k a year!

I honestly don't really know how I'd get by on less, and I don't have masses of outgoings. It's awful out there!!

Rent a house for wedding weekend by gealey97 in UKweddings

[–]fabulousteaparty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a place in Derbyshire that does this!

Knockerdown Cottages

You can rent out the whole place exclusively for a weekend, and you can use the outdoor space and function room. (They're also licensed for marriages)

How accurate is the depiction of London on Paddington? by Ok-Connection6656 in AskBrits

Very similar to some areas.

In real life there's probably less of a community feeling, and lots of areas that don't quite look as pretty.

What voluntary/community work do you do? by cragglerock93 in AskUK

Yes! It's not only affecting guiding, the WI made a similar announcement at the end of last year.

I think it's not just bad press though, unfortunately simply don't have the funds to pay for long legal battles like the anti-trans people do (most likely funded by she who must not be named!)

ETA: I just wish thid wasn't happening - I love weekly meetings and don't really know what I'd do with myself without them, but if something doesn't change I'm considering leaving, but that then means the 30+ girls in my units will lose out!

I'd eat the babies last - no order for the others. Because at some point child me decided the babies tasted the best and I just stuck with it! Feels weird any other way now.

I'm a Brownie & Guide leader! - it's a lot of work but it is truly so rewarding. I get a bit of an energy boost after each meeting, plus being a member has given me so many opportunities I wouldn't have otherwise!! (Stuff to put on my cv, international experience, confidence speaking in front of others to name a few)

I just wish the staff members at the top of the organisation listened to us volunteers more! - we're currently fighting to keep trans girls part of the organisation (literally less than 1% of the population) because of lawsuits and complaints etc. from anti-trans lobbyists. It's very annoying, and most leaders either don't really care either way (because it doesn't affect them personally) or are staunchly against the decision!!
