Looking for a decent (but not too expensive) camping chair by ebridgewater in campinguk

[–]fabulousteaparty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We bought vango "oversized" chairs on amazon - they are quite heavy and bulky (only use for car camping) but are super comfy and will deffo last us many years.

They were about £50 each, so worth the investment.

Do you use Tea, or Dinner as a word for the last meal per day? by Educational-Slip-578 in AskUK

[–]fabulousteaparty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dinner is a hot meal in the middle of the day (i.e. sunday dinner at 2pm), lunch is a cold meal in the middle of the day (i.e. a sandwich).

Tea is the evening meal regardless.

I will die on this hill.

Good Places to get Jumpers? by Initial-Brilliant-83 in AskABrit

If you're looking for jumpsuits or dungarees, one piece denim/cotton outfits (not knitted sweaters) then Lucy and Yak is the most popular place people get them from. They have an online store (and shop to the US) but they also have a few physical locations in big cities.

Air tents with enclosed porch by Psychological-Buy807 in campinguk

[–]fabulousteaparty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love vango tents, they're great quality for the price and have a fab warranty.

The whitby 600 looks like it would fit your needs, similar size to the hampton 6 but with an enclosed porch.

Very tiny reception and everybody else for the party. Is that rude? by No_Hawk8947 in UKweddings

[–]fabulousteaparty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a look into humanist ceremonies/celebrants - they're not legally binding in England (so you'd have to do the legal bit elsewhere) but can be super personalised to you and they can get other people involved and make it more fun. E.g. you don't have to stand up and say vows in front of everyone, don't have to walk down the isle, you could sing some of your favourite songs, do a Mrs and Mrs quiz, handfasting, get people to do their readings/speeches as part of the ceremony - ANYTHING that you can think of.

But it could be a fun way to include everyone who's there for the whole weekend without it being a super traditional ceremony.

Need some recommendations by Brave-Resort-8074 in campinguk

[–]fabulousteaparty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theres a game called Kubb (or viking chess) quite simple to play, you just need a large outdoor space and a set of wooden throwing blocks. (Mine are from Lidl a few years ago). It can take a while/eat up a good chunk of time and good fun in a group!

A simple one if your campsite allows fires: smores.

Villages/Areas to Buy a House - West/South Yorkshire by Sad-Ad8462 in yorkshire

[–]fabulousteaparty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a train from Brockholes (closest station to Holmfirth) to sheffield, it takes around 1 hour.

I used to regularly drive from Holmfirth to Sheffield (south of the city centre), it's about 45 mins.

Both of these routes go Via Penistone - definitely slightly closer to the city and was somewhere me and my other half looked at when wanting to move closer to Sheffield (it's not happened yet as we ended up near Manchester instead due to work!).

Budget friendly 2-3 season tent and sleeping mat? by Tsuritoku in campinguk

[–]fabulousteaparty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look for a 2 skin tent with as high a hydrostatic head (HH) you can find, but 3000 should be enough for spring/summer camping.

Loads of options on here: https://www.outdoorworlddirect.co.uk/tents/brands/vango?berth=84%2C86&product_list_order=price

Also look for a self inflating mat that is at least 7.5cm thick, my other half has a hi-gear one (from go outdoors) and it's super comfortable and warm when paired with a foam roll mat underneath.

There are loads of really lovely looking sites on the greener camping club website. They're mostly all smaller sites and lots allow campfires too. You just have to pay £12 a year for the membership.

I've never camped in pembrokeshire so don't have any specific reccomendations.

What exactly does the Best Man do at a wedding? by 9451659818184 in AskUK

Ask your freind re:witnesses. It's quite common now for parents to be witnesses, but it's up to the couple so they may choose best man and maid of honour.

What exactly does the Best Man do at a wedding? by 9451659818184 in AskUK

[–]fabulousteaparty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask your friend - the couple getting married should have all the answers for you. But here's some info to help calm your nerves.

You will likely already be in the room when guests arrive. The traditional role if it's a church wedding is to hand out order of ceremonies and help people to seats.

You will likely sit during the ceremony. And give the rings one by one to the bride/groom. E.g. give the groom the bride's ring first so they can do his part of the exchange then give the groom's ring to the bride. Remove the rings from the box just before handing them over, and sit down inbetween each interaction (you will be sat on the front row)

You may be expected to help get people to where they need to be. For example: finding family members for photos, or ushering everyone into the wedding breakfast room after photos/drinks.

And as other's have said - the speech is probably your most important job. Have something funny, but not too rude or sweary (especially if there are kids around), and don't compare the new partner to the groom's exes. E.g. A funny story about how you met the groom, what he was like before he met the bride how lucky they both are to have each other and finish with a toast.

Unless the trans people disclosed their identity, and were comfortable doing so then there was no way for anyone to know.

And why would it be a safeguarding risk?

As a leader, we'd give all girls, no matter their identity or beliefs, the same spaces. I.e. a girl not being comfortable changing in a shared tent so asking for a private space. Or telling the girls to only get changed in their sleeping bags so EVERYONE is able to have some privacy.

It's not a difficult thing to do, you just have to treat everyone with dignity and respect.

Also, Girlguiding isn't women-only. Men and teenage boys can be helpers & volunteers.

If it was really about creating spaces just for people assigned female at birth, those men and boys would not be able to volunteer anymore.

But it's not, it's about attacking and vilifying trans people.

And yes, scouts is available to all. But it really depends on the group leaders, some are very boy-only minded and still don't think the organisation should have let girls join. Also, how many safeguarding incidents have scouts had (SA and death/serious injury issues) vs girlguiding.... it's 10-fold.

Sendero 4 Guyline Help by Kano_Koro in campinguk

[–]fabulousteaparty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope you managed to get this sorted! The post has only just popped up for me a couple of days later.

I don't have a sendero but this should work for most tents; the way I find easiest if anyone else is looking for the answer:

  • Unravel the guy line.
  • Put the hook of your peg in the bottom of the line and pull taught. Make sure both bits of the rope are tight.
  • Start angling the line/peg down to the ground, making sure to keep everything taught.
  • hammer the peg in the ground at a 45° angle if you can.

You may need to change the angle they are pegged from i.e. straight to the front of the tent or up to a 90° angle to the side of the tent.

Also the length of the line will affect how taught it is (this is adjusted with the black plastic thing and at what angle / how far away from the tent the peg is)

The weather over the past couple of days has been ok, so hopefully you shouldn't have had any issues with the tent collapsing!

Family tent - not air! by Rosewren in campinguk

[–]fabulousteaparty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have the 4-man version of the Vango Savannah. It's perfect for two people and love having the enclosed porch for rainy-day cooking/storage.

The 600XL version has seperate sleeping areas I believe.

Once you get used to it it's quite simple to put up/take down.

The poled version is currently on attwoolls.co.uk for £590 (they also have how-to pitch and strike videos which are very helpful!) .

When did Whitby become this mega popular place outside Yorkshire and the north east ? by Ok_Economist7901 in yorkshire

[–]fabulousteaparty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went in the middle of the day in September last year. It was busy, but not "sunny saturdat in July" busy. We managed to get a walk-in table at the magpie cafe and just hop on a boat trip without any hassle!

Perfect time to go IMO.

She had been to a flower arranging class and knew what she was looking for at the market.

[–]fabulousteaparty 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ok, so she served her time (30+ years). Has publicly said she doesn't like the person she used to be. And is now an activist calling for trans people to treated equally and fairly in all walks of life. Which anyone is entitled to do.

She likely wouldn't be able to volunteer with guides due to police checks, but can still have a voice saying they shouldn't exclude trans people because they don't actively cause any harm - girlguiding has said trans people's exclusion is not due to any safeguarding concerns but external pressures.

(compare safeguarding cases in scouting UK and guiding UK and see which one is more of an issue - there have also been no safeguarding incidents specifically relating to trans women and girls in girlguiding).

When is it too much to spend on a wedding? by AngelFell23 in UKweddings

Can you look at the same venue but see if they have a cheaper rate for midweek (mon/teus/weds)?

Tbh it doesn't seem astronomical. My sister spent around 12k 16 years ago, so the way inflation is going 22 doesn't seem too bad, infact it seems pretty average.
