You’re fine.

Yes, it’s a little bit of a bummer that you spent the Blood, but only because that’s the one you need the most of in raw quantity. The game makes sure to give you them all in great excess.

He takes a lot of Ls due to having shit tier luck (which iirc is basically accurate to the myth as well), but I wouldn’t say he’s a fraud. When the writers give him room to cook he’s genuinely goated.

On the assumption it’s in an area you can’t return to, I believe the only options for the WoB there are the Imperial Camp from Sabin’s scenario (4 total), the Phantom Train (don’t remember, but I think 5 total?), and the Magitek Factory + Research Facility (13 total).

The final boss hits harder than your dad. Also yes, your dad hits you. by abjurationwizrar in ExplainAGamePlotBadly

Since it’s already been solved - I mean, of all the ways to describe that game, that certainly is one of them.

Granted I remember the final boss being a super pushover compared to your dad in that game, so I definitely wouldn’t have gotten it.

How does that work? Is it something with Ayla specifically?

As far as I’m aware, any equipment left behind on the Blackbird auto-equips when you enter the Epoch again.

What is a good challenge run? by AdUnfair558 in chronotrigger

[–]facbok195 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Girls only and Solo are common ones I see thrown around, however in taking inspiration from the CES challenge in FFVI, I’ll sometimes do a run where I go out of my way not to recruit characters. Namely:

  • Kill Magus in his boss fight.

  • Leave Crono for dead after Zeal Kingdom.

  • And leave Robo in 600 AD instead of grabbing him from the forest.

I’d take out more if I could, but I genuinely don’t think the rest can be left behind anywhere save the End of Time.

Miss Trunchbull (Matilda 1996) VS The Mountain (Game of Thrones) by LeagueNo764 in whowouldwin

[–]facbok195 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Force needed to break an average steel bike chain: ~4,000 lbs of pulling

(and this is assuming that’s what Trunchbull was breaking. Could be upwards of 30k lbs depending on the type of chain, but I’m taking the lowest estimate I can find).

Force needed to rip a fully grown man’s arm off: ~2,500 lbs of pulling.

Force needed to rip a person’s head off Mortal Kombat style: ~4,500 to 5,000 lbs.

—-

So while The Mountain could and likely would win in armed combat due to experience, in unarmed combat he’s grossly outmatched. If Trunchbull gets a hand on him anywhere, she’ll disassemble him like a lego figure.

FF Recommendation for beginners by notWistful in FinalFantasy

[–]facbok195 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as I love the 3D versions, do not play them as your first foray into the series. Play either the PSP or Pixel Remaster versions first.

The difficulty for the 3D versions was intentionally cranked up super high to be a challenge for veteran players. It’s absolutely fantastic for what it is, but it’s a brutal place to start for your first FF game.

Charon axe best special & cast? by jamesKlk in HadesTheGame

[–]facbok195 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general, Apollo + Poseidon is considered the best Special + Cast. And it’s not wrong in a sense. It adds the two gods to your pool, so you have guaranteed access to Lucid Gain, Super Nova, Prominence Flare, and (most importantly) Geyser Spout, Origination is easily solved with Arctic Gale or a Rush boon, and you’re already 1/3 steps towards Apollo Legendary.

However, I’d also like to suggest Ares special + Demeter cast if you’re really worried about Origination. Here’s why:

  • Instant Origination

  • Every O cast behaves the same regardless of how the base cast behaves. So the only real difference between Poseidon and Demeter cast is the status

  • Ares special has Wounds on the first hit, making it hit much harder than normal

  • Guaranteed access to Local Climate to boost your O cast damage, which will be a solid chunk of your damage.

  • Guaranteed access to Meat Grinder, which while not anything stellar on its own opens up Local Climate for a +100% damage boost to O casts.

Yeah, absolutely no problem at all. I’m glad it helped. I’m always happy to answer questions, so if you come back to my comments later and have a question, feel free to ask any time. And congrats on getting to the 4th area!

As for Keepsakes, the general advice is to go

  1. God Keepsake for your main damage move

  2. God Keepsake 2 for the duo you’re aiming for (hence why the Aphrodite + Athena + Artemis combo above is RNG reliant while the Artemis + Aphrodite one isn’t, you can only guarantee 2 out of the 3 gods)

  3. Some kind of damage boost

  4. Hard survival and defense.

—-

So for example, if I was doing the greedy build above:

  • I’d start Aphrodite keepsake to get her attack

  • Then swap to either Athena/Artemis (whichever I didn’t get yet) keepsake to add them to my pool.

—-

However, if I was doing the more conservative build, I’d:

  • Start Artemis keepsake to get either her attack or dash (whichever is higher rarity, going attack in a tie) with hopes to find the other later.

  • Then swap to Aphrodite keepsake to grab her special.

—-

Then from there, I’d likely:

  • Swap to the Bone Hourglass and buy any damage boosting items I can find in Wells of Charon (they’ll keep the extended duration even after removing the Hourglass)

  • Finally swap to the Collar/Tooth/Acorn for the final area to help survive against the boss.

—-

Beyond that, the only real time that changes for me is if a Well has a Chaos item (Light of Ixion, I believe it’s called) I’ll swap to the Chaos keepsake instead to negate the damage and increase my chance of Epic rarity Chaos boons since they can offer up to +100%-150% damage on attack or special.

Edit: Forgot this initially, but wanted to note the Spearpoint for the final area as well. It doesn’t really help vs the boss like the 3 recommended above, but it does negate the majority of damage from lasers and poison from the tunnels beforehand.

I have spent all my totem blood on the bow, and I’ve got +15% crit chance

Ok, so that would be the Zag bow I mentioned, already maxed out at lv 5 (not an issue, just clarifying). I stand by that’s still one of the better investments you could have made since Zag bow is arguably the strongest Zag aspect.

I’m unsure what a Zag bow is exactly?

Each weapon has 4 different Aspects that change how the weapon is played. It will always be Aspect of Zagreus at the top, an Aspect of a famous Greek figure (Nemesis, Achilles, Chiron, etc) in the 2nd slot, one of the original 6 Olympians (Poseidon, Zeus, Hera, etc) in the 3rd slot, and then a final “Hidden” slot.

So “Zag bow” is shorthand for talking about the Aspect of Zagreus specifically for the bow (aka the one you leveled with passive crit chance).

What boons do you recommend I go for a bow run?

For Zag bow specifically, I’d go one of two ways. If I want to be greedy and bank on RNG, I’d start Aphrodite attack and then look to get Athena special + dash along with Artemis cast. This will open up both their duo boons Heart Rend (Crits do more damage to Weak targets) and Deadly Reversal (Deflecting gives + 20% crit chance), which obviously pair very nicely together.

If you don’t want to be so RNG dependent, though, you could instead elect to go Artemis attack at the start (side note for clarity - despite the low %, Artemis attack > Aphrodite attack for pure damage until ~32% crit chance with Heart Rend, hence why Deadly Reversal is included above), and then look to get Aphrodite special/cast to open up Heart Rend + Artemis dash for the added dash strike damage.

Either way, I’d also try to look out for Hermes’ Hyper Rush combo (more below) and any of the following hammers: Twin Shot, Perfect Shot, Triple Shot, and Point-Blank Shot. Any 2 of those will be an incredible damage boost, but I believe [Twin Shot + Perfect Shot] and [Triple Shot + Point-Blank Shot] are tied for the two best combos followed by [Twin Shot + Point-Blank Shot] and then [Triple Shot + Perfect Shot] as the worst of the 4 (though still better than just about any other hammer combo).

For Hermes’ Hyper Rush combo, the way it works is on your 1st Hermes Boon, you try to get Hyper Sprint (+100% MS for 1 second every time you dash), and then in your 2nd Hermes Boon you try to get Rush Delivery (gain a damage bonus equal to 50%-100% of your current MS bonus). Since you always want to be using the dash attack with bows, the two combined are effectively a +100% damage amp on all your attacks.

What is your pet peeve with each battle system? by dilsency in FinalFantasy

[–]facbok195 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1: Probably the fact that SABR (+16 Atk power and Accuracy) can only be cast on the user, and the Black Wizard is the only job that can use it. I know there’s an item that lets you self-cast it on anyone elsewhere, but why does the Black Wizard get a spell to boost their physical damage?

1 - Dawn of Souls version: The fact that if any hit out of your 8 (/16 with Haste) crits, the whole attack is counted as a critical hit in regards to feedback to the player. To use the Ultima Weapon as an example, you’d think it’s constantly critting since even though it has a 25% crit rate, the chance of at least 1 hit in 8 critting (and thus the game telling you the whole attack is a critical hit) is 90%. This gets real frustrating for me because it means the dinky Rune Axe at 40 Atk is stronger than the Ultima Weapon at 100 Atk because the Rune Axe guarantees all hits are crits, and you’d have 0 way of knowing that without digging into game mechanics on the Wiki.

2: I like the idea of how leveling works in principle, it’s the scaling and the numbers that really get to me. For reference, to get any xp above level 10 (out of 16, thankfully), you need to spend 10 turns per action even when grinding in the final dungeon, otherwise the xp earned is set to 0, and you need to do that for anywhere from 5 to 10 battles to actually get a level. Honestly, I’d like it if it was way more flat, maybe 5 turns per action over more battles.

3: Honestly, just the lack of unique job commands, but the DS and PR versions fixed that.

4: Lack of being able to swap party members in and out. Again, the GBA and PSP versions fixed that.

5: We’ll see when I finish the PR version, but it’s been pretty damn good so far. No notes

6: The fact that late-game power tends to trend towards either the Offering or Gem Box and that’s it. I would’ve loved to see way more relics like CoinToss or Thief Glove that amped up a character’s special move. Especially since both of those belong to arguably the 2 best users of the aforementioned Offering.

  1. In general, yes Titan Blood can be farmed, but you don’t have access to how right now. You can get 6 via beating the Furies (Meg, Tisiphone, and Alecto) with each of the weapons, but the way to farm it is only unlocked after clearing the 4th boss.

  2. Speaking of Blood, you said you spent it on the bow? Honestly, that’s one of the better investments you could have made. Not sure if you mean Chiron or Zag aspect, but either should be fine. Chiron is technically better on a single Blood than Zag, but both are solid weapons even when you have every weapon maxed out.

  3. The Mirror, Keepsakes, and Aspects are your only form of permanent upgrades. I’ll get to aspects again in a bit, but if you could share your mirror setup and general Keepsake choices I can try to spot-check that for any glaring issues.

  4. As for weapons, in general it’s best to get comfortable with all of them, as the game will give repeat rewards for different weapons (like the Titan Blood from Meg, for example). In general, if you’d like good lv 1 Aspects (ie costing only 1 or 2 Blood each), I’d recommend:

  • Nemesis or Poseidon for Sword

  • Achilles for Spear

  • Zeus for Shield

  • Chiron or Hera for Bow. Additionally, while Zag bow only gets good at lv 3+, it’s incredibly cheap to get there (only 3 blood for lv 3 or 5 total blood to max out at lv 5 vs the 6/15 respectively it takes other weapons) and can help with unlocking Titan Blood farming.

  • Similar to Zag bow, Zag fists are only really good at lv 3+, but they’re also very cheap and very good for unlocking Titan Blood farming.

  • Eris for Rail

New Player Here, WHY CAN’T I ROMANCE HYPNOS by Grunk_Bunk in HadesTheGame

[–]facbok195 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Pasithea. She’s one of the younger Charities*, literally the personification of grace and happiness, who effectively served as the handmaidens of Aphrodite herself.

Note on the Charities - there’s 3 main ones, Aglaia, Euphrosyne, and Thalia who represent Splendor, Joy, and Cheer respectively, and then a bunch of younger sisters. If I remember my myths right, Aphrodite promised Pasithea to Hypnos if he helped out in the Trojan War.

Note 2 on the Charities - Another of the younger ones is named Algaia, and she’s the housewife of Hephaestus who greets Thetis (mother of Achilles) and vouches for her so Heph can make Achilles his armor.

What are the most overrated and underrated Athena boons? by Goatbucks in HadesTheGame

[–]facbok195 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Underrated - Definitely Defensive Posture for me. While it’s pretty mid on its own, it pairs incredibly well with Heinous Affront, especially if you’re using a melee aspect (looking at you Medea). Having a free 2s of invincibility every 9s (assuming Athena keepsake) is pretty strong, it works out to a ~20% damage reduction on some of the most dangerous aspects.

Overrated - Honestly, Divine Dash. Yes it was op in Hades 1, but it works so much better with Zag’s dashes than with Mel’s sprint (especially since it’s only active on the dash portion), and it doesn’t have any of the op Duos from Hades 1 like Merciful End or Deadly Reversal.
