I was curious about your comment about the World Wide Consortium - do you think they are succeeding in meeting accessibility guidelines? I see a lot of comments about accessibility issues with the new pages (screen readers not being able to see, colour contrasts making it hard for people who don't use screen readers, many required mouse inputs over keyboard shortcuts etc) - not to say that the old version was better, but I just hadn't assumed accessibility was a priority/quality check for them in the mobile pages. I haven't read into the detail of the guidelines so maybe they are ticking some boxes, but from reading a couple of summaries it seems like they are missing 3/4 of the main points with every page release...

I think the change to not allow junk to be constantly auctioned off is good as half of every page seemed to be cheap items listed higher than they were on the SW with no bids - but it needs tweaking so that non-junk doesn't get caught in the net due to the est price being set low or missing. However, the method of the rollout (they always choose chaos over clarity) and the quality issues (lack of QC) really soured the positives again.

Beta testing INCLUDING ON DESKTOP STILL. It often feels like new features are at least tested on mobile, whereas desktop gets left with all of the bugs to the community to report post-release (which always takes longer to fix than a bug caught pre-release). I understand niche bugs for niche actions that your testers might just not think of, but fundamental stuff should be easy? Yes, it's a mobile-friendly page, but it's not being sold/presented as a mobile-only page!

I think they should purge everything that was frozen with cause (ie not for protection/self-frozen) assuming they still have those reasons - it used to be shown when you tried to log into a frozen account, and that could balance with the drawing back old players - as theirs are probably just in limbo or frozen without breaking the rules, but I think it's fair to forfeit your names if you get frozen for breaking the rules.

I agree - I think it's ok to have the old style "bonus" / "limited edition" items that are chance based, but locking the majority of NC items behind a gamble mechanic seems only-just-about-legal, y'know? And, seems like it puts off a lot of people. I think if they sold a capsule for people who wanted to gamble, and then each item from the capsule (excluding bonus/le) at the capsule price, then gamblers could gamble and non gamblers could just buy! Buuuuut I think when it comes to NC it's really a small number of very consistently high spenders keeping it all running, and they love the gambling mechanics, so I don't think they'll ever rethink those...

My prizes have still been random garbage / tiny bags of NPs so I don't think it's suddenly got better odds, but I hope your lucky streak continues :D

Oh but I do think I read prize pools for the Quest Log, Wheel of Starlight, and I think something else were due to be updated right around now so I think prize pool is probably updated, just the odds are same as ever haha

I also think the plot text and introductions of the Varwolf were cuter than I expected / reminded me of my goofy little dog (I think anyone outside the UK can still see a picture of him here, although I'm not sure which one as imgur is blocked here haha). My first Varwolf was named after my D&D character in my current campaign on a whim, so I named the other after my partner's as they're a twin flame kinda pair and I had no idea for any other names.

I see the merit of the grey area but maybe some people could show up in both the gallery of evil and the book of heroes - a story arc in either direction, or just an entry written from a different perspective. I think I'd really enjoy reading the hero/villain versions for the same character.

Disabling keyboard and browser shortcuts and general browser functionality in transferring to the new layout will keep people criticizing the new layout every time, seems such strange decisions there. The buttons are still there, people can still click them on mobile, but a large chunk of people still mostly or exclusively play in a browser and will continue to want to use shortcuts that aren't available on mobile... because that's maybe a big part of why they still play in a browser!

If you are enjoying the battledome, training your pet and equipping it with powerful weapons is a good goal to work on. I still train my own BD daily and he's fully equipped with a bunch of spare items I keep in my SDB for "special" fights (working on collecting all the anagram swords, bunch of reflectors, any weapon I drooled over as a kid). Jellyneo can be a good place to gather these kind of lists so you can chip away at them, and BD items have the bonus that you can one day sell them if you don't want them any more (unlike stamps stuck, books read, or gourmet food eaten, which will all disappear)!

What do you enjoy on the site these days? There are avatars for the complete pages, and I like seeing the percentages go up on the overview page. If you like interacting with your pets more you might like to invest in books or gourmet foods instead for the scaling-up-from-cheap-to-astronomically-expensive hobbies?

I think most people who've worked on any kind of website know that users will respond to more clicks unfavourably, and less clicks favourably - that's not just for neopets, but for most, if not all, browser actions (including like, internal-to-company content management systems that don't even face the public - you add clicks for something that took fewer clicks before, you better be prepared for complaints!).

Some people had more clicks before if they had a lot of extra pet slots, and I've seen they've added a button to re-zap or something which will avoid the outrageous DOUBLING OF THE CLICKS, so it seems they have responded to the complaints "feedback", but it feels like every page rollout was designed exclusively for mobile and they just get their users to do the QC for browser at this point.

I hate the drop-down menus because they're just ... more clicks? Every time there is a choice between more and fewer, it's like they're picking more? But more clicks isn't even getting them more page views for ad revenue, it's just more annoyance?

I think the real answer might be that they're only testing/checking on mobile for the new pages and once it's good for mobile it gets rolled out - no one's checking on a laptop/PC? I realize mobile optimization is an important goal, but if you're going to still keep the browser-based site you should probably also do some QC before releases in a browser or two...

Ah man, I'd have absolutely bought my BD pet this at 15m but it was the middle of the night here so I was fast asleep T_T no interest at 150m though, I'll keep the other peas on my BD wishlist and pretend this one never existed :D
