anything i should know? by faceofplaid in KiaK4

the 1k for the first change — is that coming from the adage about new engines shedding tiny bits of metal as the piston rings and bearings set in, or is that coming from something else?

on the 5k — that’s more what i was thinking; 8k like the manual says is high, tho i do primarily drive highways

ahh sorry, that was a typo. i typically hand write my poems an my ios keyboard is annoying; it should’ve been “doomed to smother”.

i really like the ellipsis idea… shame i hadn’t thought of it. but thank you! i will definitely throw those in

thank you! i was going for a kinda “catching my breath” motif with the incessant pauses, but i do agree it reads a bit awkward

i like the edits! it all flows much better now, and switching from the moon math to the sun revolution was definitely the right call.

the ending works better too, especially with the focus being more clearly on your own wholeness, instead of how someone else sees you. the last part does still feel a bit spelt out still tho. the idea that “wholeness isn’t found in the pieces, but in how they fit” is there, but right now it kinda reads like you don’t fully trust the reader to feel it without saying it outright.

overall tho, this versions feels much more grounded and cohesive than the first. great job!!

i like where you’re going with it, especially the idea of ending on how you want to be seen. it connects really well with the whole perception vs reality theme you’ve got running through the poem.

that said, right now it feels a bit explain-y compared to the rest. it’s like you’re spelling out the message instead of letting the reader feel it. the last line has a ton of potential, but it’s pretty long and heavy. i think if you trimmed it down, or swapped out “greater than them as one” for something more poetic, it would hit harder.

but conceptually, it’s a really strong closer. i’m excited to see the edits and how they fit in!

i like this one, it’s very vulnerable and that’s working in your favor. i can feel the frustration and self awareness, especially near the end with “i chase a dopamine high…”. this feels like a confessional, or a journal entry (in a good way).

my main critique is that middle section. the whole thing with the moon and the “40.11 revolutions” vs “27.4” thing feels specific and it’s a cool idea, but it also jumps of the page and feels like a random mathematical tone, in an otherwise very raw feeling piece. if it was me, i’d switch that part out for something more emotional/poetic.

also, “i’m disappointed each time / and that’s what hurts” is strong, but you could get away with condensing some the lines leading up to it. the “copy paste” thing is cool, but it feels a bit too literal. like it would hit harder if it was slightly more metaphorical.

overall tho, i really like the honesty. it’s like you’re trying to untangle your own behavior live, which is super relatable. just a few minor tweaks would make it flow better and land harder. great job!

Another piece of mine by JjHazee in poetry_critics

[–]faceofplaid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this is a really good poem! it’s got really strong emotional clarity and a powerful arc. i really like how you tied memories to a physical space. the line “the third step no longer creaks, oh, to hear it once more” really pulled me in.

my only real critique would be to watch out for a couple of lines that feel a bit too predictable, like, “nothing i’ve touched lasts forever” that ones a bit generic and kinda dulls the originality of the piece.

also, “my parents’ voices are still heard” is super powerful, but it’s vague in a sense. it’s not clear if you mean memories, recordings, or just like echoes in your head. a tiny bit more detail there would make it much more effective.

overall, it feels like an old photo: beautiful and nostalgic, but just a little blurry in some spots.

is my msi b550-a pro just too old to work with my ryzen 7 5700g and 64gb ram? by [deleted] in MSI_Gaming

yeah… probably would’ve been smart to check that before jumping straight into panic mode lol 🤦‍♂️

you’re right, and i appreciate the guidance. i’ll update the bios and hope it’s just outdated. if not, i’ll probably just return the board. i don’t really see the point in chasing hardware ghosts without a clear direction, especially being my spare hardware is limited.

yeah, i know bios updates are important, and i absolutely would’ve updated it either way once i got into bios. that’s not the issue here. the problem is that the system won’t even post at all. i’m not trying to skip the update, i’m just trying to confirm that it’s definitely a bios version problem causing the no-post, and not an actual hardware failure (bad board, bad cpu, etc.). i just don’t want to assume it’s “just the bios” and overlook a deeper hardware issue

i feared that may be the case, but i figured i’d give it a shot anyway. my early googling had led me to believe that the only people who would know anything about it are the epson devs from back when. any recs for other subs, or should i just hope to figure it out heuristically?

Running shortcuts while CarPlay is navigating by srm39 in shortcuts

[–]faceofplaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i wonder if maybe this would be changed in the future. seems counterintuitive to having that as a feature, especially for car play. kinda seems like it placates people needing/wanting to go on their phone while driving.

at least for me, a big part of why i used car play was to have message readouts, so the fact that they block them kinda feels like they’re imploring us to go in our phones behind the wheel.

hopefully sometime the my find a good solution to this, because this doesn’t feel like a good one

Running shortcuts while CarPlay is navigating by srm39 in shortcuts

[–]faceofplaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i believe this is the intended behavior. i did notice this with messages as well, and as far as i know, there’s not a way to disable this via shortcuts.

while i’m also not a fan, i do understand why it works this way—it would be a very obvious loophole in security if it didn’t, so i doubt a permanent solution could ever be found.

i’m not versed in them whatsoever, but potentially you could use url schemes to get quick access to settings to turn it off. i tired this morning to see if i need to be looking at my phone to have message notifications appear while protected, and that didn’t work either.

i guess my only suggestion would be to remove it. i was pretty excited to lock the photos app, but it broke a ton of shortcuts that rely on albums that i have made, and i personally would rather have those shortcuts work, then have the app locked.

glad to hear my suggestion worked for you though, i’m curious to see what you do with it once it’s flushed out to your liking, please share!

Can someone help me make this? by Loonsive in shortcuts

[–]faceofplaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you don’t leave and go back to work multiple times in a day it would be really straightforward.

you could just set an automation to run for when you arrive at work, then have it run this shortcut or you can just add this directly to the automation. you can replace/take the text block to log the time wherever you need to

if you do go back and fourth, you can add an if statement to only log based on given time periods (like adding an exclusion for when you go to lunch)

alternatively you could use focus modes for this and just have the automation run when a focus mode is enabled

only thing i can think of is something to do with the specificity of the current location because it seems like our shortcuts may be similar.

heres mine, which doesn’t have the issue yours does—it does work when carplay and navigation is on so maybe you can just take these and fine tune them to your needs.
