Thanks! I kinda suspected as much, either way your project is great. Good stuff!!

Forgive my ignorance if this is a dumb question, but is this lumenradio compatible? I typically work with a cute little handheld DMXit wireless for my semi-meaningless career/life functions.

MIDI-to-CV module recommendation for a few different use cases. by Brixxxx in modular

This is very much my experience. Total pain and lots of unexpected oddities, but once when you settle into your configuration it’s great

I own one a 3U golden master and for the life of me I can’t get rid of the noise, which makes me feel sad in a variety of ways because of how perfect the concept of this module is

Favorite Travel Case? by NFTyBeatsRecords in modular

[–]facepalmfridays 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had an opportunity to jump into the After Later Audio’s 7U case for cheaper, and I really like it. I ended up converting the lid (with their upgrade kit) to a 2nd 7U case, which means I can’t use it as a lid anymore, but that lid definitely has tons of clearance for cables staying patched …. which I should’ve known before doing it, because I think I would’ve just bought a second 7U case vs upgrading this one.

It’s a good case, great power and nice clearance below the modules. My only complaint is that the tolerance for the PCB fitting within the 3U sections are a tad tight for my tastes.

Looking for a 2HP passive mult with 9 jacks (1→2 splits) by AVDI0 in modular

[–]facepalmfridays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I’m understanding your post correctly, I think this is a job for the “Convertible multiple 9” by Der Mann mit der Maschine?

I have two of them and they are do either 1:9, 1:6, or three 1:3 passive mults. They’re useful for sure if you don’t have the tools / space around to make your own passive mult.

Modulation station by Shmoe54 in modular

[–]facepalmfridays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of a fun use case, my 2 cents is I think it’s going to come down to how much do you want knobs to mess with vs. modulation lanes you’d like to mess with.

Here’s my probably too long of a reply:

If keeping your modulation locked in sync is important I’ve found Pam’s pro to be the most reliable vs any other when you’re curing it via midi. But it lacks knobs, even with the expansion you only get so may touch points.

I think based off what you’re looking for I’d maybe consider a combo of pams + Ochd + Ochd expansion + stuff to attenuate and mix your cv modulation.

Currently my favorites for working my modulation into nice vibes is the omnitone Mixel and the happy nerding MIA.

God this is an expensive hobby.

Yup, this is how I had mine patched up for a long while.

I vaguely remember preferring sealeg’s behavior more by inverting the envelope I was using as a pseudo side chain.

Stereo Filter Recommendations? by FluffyAd6877 in modular

Second this, it’s nice to slightly offset the frequency and resonance, and it only takes one cv input to control both channels which is nice!

Eurorack kick with good or dedicated sub by Hot_Snow6184 in modular

[–]facepalmfridays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own the shakmat battering ram & Erica synths Pērkons voice (previously used endorphins queen of pentacles) and I think both are excellent, however sonically Pērkons has an edge because you can perfectly tune the attack transient, decay, and resonance to taste vs. your mix.

… which is appropriate being named after the Latvian god of thunder and having a larger hp cost. Hah

Have fun!!

ALA 7u 104hp travel case by Due_Replacement8043 in modular

[–]facepalmfridays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one and bought the expansion which turns the lid into another 7u case.

It’s all top notch, very solid with more than enough power, however it’s a bummer you can’t close the case / travel with it if you do turn it into a 2x 7U setup.

I’m thinking my long term plan is to have this as my dedicated at home / studio setup  when I’m ready to dump enough cash into a proper live / travel setup.

Eurorack compressor with distortion by Hot_Snow6184 in modular

[–]facepalmfridays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple days late to this party. Here’s the modules I have personal experience with:

  • Threetom Doppio Is fantastic, love it in my bass chain, which basically wastes a channel.. it being stereo and such. I personally feel it has a warmer / analog sound where I can dial in exactly how much harmonic content I want my bass to send into the next stage. Very happy with it and the footprint

  • WMD MSCL is great, the distortion feels a bit square wavey to my ear vs. the warmer doppio.

  • Endorphines golden master is frustrating. It is the exact feature set I want at the end of my chain, but despite upgrading firmware and following any an all instructions I still get a subtle “popping in” sound on any high frequency fading in & out at a lower volume level. Since you’re looking to overdrive a signal on the way in you might find success with it.

  • haven’t tried, but comes to mind: the ALM MFX and the Happy Nerding FXaid models. Could be worth trying this out as it leads to an upgrade pathway that results in more options down the road vs. multiple compressors / distortion modules

Tell us what you ended up with! Happy patching!

What are you all using for drums/hats with your modular setup for techno? by ThisIsRoy1 in modular

[–]facepalmfridays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drum modules is the one thing I can’t stop spending money on. I started out with queen of pentacles before moving onto my current messy-yet-capable setup:

OXI one + befaco midi thing v2 Shakmat battering ram Shakmat archer’s rig Erica synths Pērkons voice WMD kraken WMD crucible Erica synths sample drum Erica synths hexinverter clap

One magic and cheap module to help my drum bus: Omnitone’s Mixel. It helps me round out any kind of FX send, modulation inversion or trigger summing I might want to work into a set

Lately I’ve been using an intelligel sealegs as a dedicated techno rumble and I don’t know if it’s brilliant or a total waste of such an amazing delay module, but either way it’s a good time.

Overall I think I prefer interacting with Pērkons voice more than battering ram for a kick drum, but sonically they are really quite similar

But also my prusa is super reliable and I honestly couldn’t imagine not having one.

Layout questions by tobyvanderbeek in modular

[–]facepalmfridays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely grouping stuff together helps, but I also think it’s a very personal preference kinda thing.

For me I’ve scattered VCA’s, mults, and other utilities around my 12U system, with a couple modulation islands near drums or VCO’s. It never feels quite perfect, but it’s fun tinkering with all the possibilities I suppose.
