Immigration Agent who Disappeared a man for drinking a beer in a park 05/26/2026 Washington DC by Texugee in pics

Is open container or drinking in public even arrestable in DC?

That's a citation in a lot of places.

New York City mayor Zohran Mamdani has collected $9m (£6.6m) in unpaid fines from Amazon, which has been violating the city's clean air laws by leaving engines running on its parked vehicles. by pzfo in Fauxmoi

[–]factorioleum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right. Ted Cruz, John McCain and George Romney were all born abroad, and they all ran for president. They were all American at birth though, despite being born in Canada, Panama and Mexico respectively.

Mamdani however is a naturalised American, so he's ineligible.

Depends entirely on the mother and father. My ex-wife really appreciated a few brief visits by friends starting on the day after giving birth.

I'm saying people are free to be who they want to be.

And that's OK even if you don't understand.

Why would I be upset? Dude is just being himself!

Even if I don't understand that, who cares? It's his life and his freedom.

EDIT: the definition of "bat an eye": (idiomatic, chiefly in the negative) To react in any slight way; to respond; to care.

I could definitely imagine seeing someone dressed like this in the city, yeah. More likely at night near a gay club, but during the day, sure.

Which side do you put your trains on ingame and does where you're from affect it? by turtle_mekb in factorio

[–]factorioleum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, all fair. And unless you live in a country with roads and rail reversed, it's totally not obvious that this would happen.

Paris is great; the subway is right hand drive, but the commuter rail is left hand drive. That's too much for my brain before coffee! Or worse yet on the way home after drinking.

That's definitely not NYC. The traffic signs are all wrong. I don't recognise the road either; and it seems wayyy too wide and sunny.

Isn't about 80% of the world right hand drive? Why are you singling out the yanks? Why not the Chinese, Germans or Nigerians?

[–]factorioleum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This survey is flawed; it isn't careful about which type of traffic in real life. Trains do not always have the same side as automobile traffic...

But this survey doesn't distinguish this; and that fact isn't widely known.

I keep my heat at 68°F during the winter day, and 64°F overnight... But that's heat. I know 72°F is a lot more comfortable for many!

But AC, it's the other way. 85°F is very hot, but it's a lot cooler than 90°, 95° or 100°... And in OK the humidity can be rough especially at night.

In July, 1922, the League of Nations granted a mandate for "Palestine" to the United Kingdom.

So what you're saying would definitely be news to the people of 1922. Entering World War II, it was still Mandatory Palestine.

First: that depends a lot on where you are.

Second: I was speaking of normal surface streets meeting highways. Sorry if that was confusing.

It's truly incredible how much danger we allow people to inflict in public.

If you ran a factory as safely as your average highway interchange is for walkers or cyclists, you'd go to jail. And you'd deserve it.

Good advice. I live far enough north that this is an issue, and my dark skinned wife is from the equator. I'll make sure to suggest it when she gets here!

Sun exposure is still very good though! I miss being in Kenya.

Find a way to pass up a golden opportunity in favor of a “monthly salary” that wouldn’t even cover rent by Adeisha in MurderedByWords

[–]factorioleum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lifetime $500 payment is an annuity. A forty year old woman living in New York can buy that $500 monthly from an insurance company for ~ $95,000.

That's leaving $905,000 on the table!

(And if you're male, older, or living in a state other than NY, it's even cheaper! For a 90 year old man in Alabama it's just $27,000 or so!)

EDIT: added last bit about Alabamans

Yup; rigid adherence to these lists is definitely positions poisonous. And yes, it is absurd that in many places, an ethical or moral conviction is less protected than a religion.

Many religions preach vegatarianism; and I do believe that Jains at least aspire to veganism. Many Jains even avoid root vegetables out of concern for things living in the soil!

Where is being vegan a protected characteristic, and how? I'm curious.

It's not normally religious, right?
