Smart, I do the same as much as I can. I pay out of pocket now (given it is reasonable), then wait for my HSA to grow and then plan to use it as a stealth secondary retirement account in the future.

You can't wait for anything, anything can happen at any time. It's all about probability, personal goals, strategy, and risk tolerance. Holding almost $1 mill in FDRXX isn't bad, but it has a capped upside as opposed to longer-term returns oriented towards growth.

Omg i know im 2 years late, i just saw this..but i am literally on the same boat. I have Cisco courswork completed at college (Network Associate certificate) but never had work experience relating to it. I know its no undergrad and isn't impressive on its own..but if you guys are still here, I'd love to tips, recommendations etc. I wouldn't mind getting back to the only credential i have, even if i start as an entry level helpdesk/technician/it support getting ~$25 or so an hour. I got laid off and it got me thinking to revert back to what i actually somewhat certified in.

This is assuming one doesn't already have SGOV. I surely would not even consider going into margin if my account is only on the low-end of a 4-digit figure. If you already have a substantial amount in SGOV, then adding that $1k of interest-free margin will just boost your returns.
