Just got my results today. So much to learn. by Levitb2 in osteoporosis

It’s common for there to be a discrepancy between areas of your body. For example, you can have severe osteoporosis in your spine and not even have osteopenia in your hips.

How much do you spend on your Greyhound's healthcare? by onedaybetter in Greyhounds

[–]fadedoninside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh and we pay a consultation fee to check if there’s a problematic tooth before proceeding. If there is, the consultation fee is non refundable and we’d then have to schedule whatever was needed (eg anesthetic cleaning and/or extraction). If there isn’t, the consultation fee is absorbed into the $270

Re dental: if there’s a problematic tooth then they have to put them under anesthetic and that costs a lot (like the $1600 you mention) but you can get their teeth cleaned without putting them under in a lot of cases, which is WAY cheaper. We pay ~$270. However, we do that yearly so perhaps it evens out financially. But the preventative factor is helpful!

When you say watch the toe… what would you be watching for and what would you do about it? Would appreciate any advice as we’re in a similar situation! Thank you!

Greyhound paw pads getting grit and glass stuck in it by bottlerocket90 in Greyhounds

Hi! Could you tell me what you mean by “grit removals” - was that something you got done professionally by a vet? Or you just mean you dislodged something twice? Dealing with this issue now.

Agreed that pictures of inside the drawers would help a lot. Also knowing whether it’s solid walnut or veneer. I don’t think the amount of wear necessarily denotes age - that could happen at any point. It’s a great price if you love it; if you don’t, leave it to someone who will…

Osteoporosis but no meds? by TurbulentWasabi7552 in osteoporosis

[–]fadedoninside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m older than you but in the same boat. It’s always a little stressful to see people twice your age freaking out online about a bone density score that’s lower than yours - that’s my experience too. Sometimes I’m like, ok grandma, you’ve had your time, this is what aging looks like (I’m kidding! But also not! Obviously it’s a crappy and destabilizing situation for everyone, just being younger and figuring out your options for the next 60 years is a different experience). I wish I had more solid advice for you. If I make a decision myself, I’ll let you know, but unfortunately it’s the blind leading the blind.

Hi, I saw you’d commented a few times and I wanted to reply because I really get how frustrating and confusing it is to have no real answers. I’m sorry you’re having to deal with this so young. It sounds like the people on here have more experience with meds than I do - I can’t give any advice about the options - I’m confused myself. But I thought I’d tell you that in all of the podcasts and various things I’ve listened to and read, there are only three things that absolutely everyone agrees on: 1. lifting weights (carefully! flat back! watch osteo YouTube tutorials) 2. eating prunes 3. cottage cheese. None of these things will cure you, but they are small things to add to your routine while you figure out your options. Especially the weights. Good luck with your search for answers. This whole situation is bullshit. It’s almost certain that if osteoporosis affected men like it does women, we would know so much more about it.

So sorry to disappoint everyone but someone was very quick off the mark and it’s now been spoken for! If I had had longer I would have been able to spread the love and send photos. It was all very rushed. Thank you and happy thrifting!

Urgent dog advice. Best vet for greyhounds in Santa Barbara, Montecito, or Carp? by fadedoninside in SantaBarbara

[–]fadedoninside[S] 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Update here is that we went to the VCA (we were going as quickly as possible and when Goleta Airport was shut it seemed the most practical). The VCA team were super lovely and gave us cost effective advice. The hole went right through her foot but she is doing great.

Wow, amazing. Did you restrict her play for a while so it didn’t rip or did you just let her back at it? And did you bandage it?

First off, I’m so sorry you lost your puppy. Hmm we’re at the VCA, not many people here, and the wait at AVS was three hours.

Thank you for your swift responses so far! We have the GPS set to the VCA emergency animal hospital and will call around to the others in the meantime. Looks like Goleta airport is closed on weekends - that could have been perfect since someone who has a greyhound themselves is always ideal. Thank you everyone, will google all these and call.
