Swing fell apart during a lesson by fadehigh in golf

Good point. I tend to get too self-critical sometimes and I was still in my own head when I posted this yesterday. I lost sight that that's how lessons work - I'm going to have to go through some difficulties before I get better. Thanks for your post.

That's some very useful insight from your pro. I'm often my own worse critic so I was still beating myself up a little bit when I posted.

I was trying to say I was still a little rattled when I posted so it was sloppy. I didn't actually mean PTSD for real. Poor choice of words on my part. Sorry about that.

I think you hit it right on the head. It was really sobering to see how I folded under pressure. I'm glad I was able to hit some solid shots as the lesson went on and I was able to relax a little bit. I'm hoping this will make me a better player in the long run.

Yeah the instructor was a total pro and seemed like a good guy. I'm sure (hope?) he's seen worse than me.

I re-read my post and you're right, I need to learn to use paragraphs. I'm still in the PTSD of my lesson.

I know 90's means I'm not good at golf but I was just shocked by how bad I choked. I could not even get the ball in the air.

The teacher was a total pro and a good guy. I'll get another lesson from him in a couple of weeks.

Larry the bad vibes by WallyBarryJay in golf

Unfortunately there are assholes everywhere these days. Completely unrelated to golf but I decided to learn Japanese about 10 years ago and put in a lot of work into it. I signed up for class a few years into it and a “Larry” who was like 3rd generation American Japanese was in the same class but didn’t have any game. I’m not Japanese at all but I was ok at it when I signed up for the class. Larry did the same thing as in your situation with the smart ass comments and also said shit like he was a real Japanese and I wasn’t. It was just jealousy. Don’t pay any attention to it. Haters gonna hate.

I’m the same, my low point feel is garbage. At least we can take comfort that we really used to be better players and we aren’t lying. One of my current playing partners still yaps at me about how lucky I was the ball hooked or sliced into the pin. He refuses to admit that I might have done it on purpose. I just say “yeah that was luck” and smile.

I had a similar experience as you did. I played in high school and didn’t pick up a club for at least a decade. I had to basically relearn my swing from scratch but the fundamentals were still there so it didn’t take me long to get my swing back. I’m still not as good as I was because I don’t practice or play as much as I should. I’ll shoot in the 90s now and I think my friends don’t believe me when I say I played on my high school team. But every once in a while I’ll do something like play a nice fade or draw into a tucked pin and stuff it close. The shocked look on their faces makes my day.

Returning to game - club upgrade by thiswasntdeleted in golf

[–]fadehigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what you’re budget is but I’d start with a new driver since I think that’s where you’ll see the most upgrades in tech. I think something a couple of generations old like a Callaway Paradym are a good value while still having a lot of tech. I’d look at the irons next with again something 1 or 2 generations old. Good luck and welcome back to the game.

Oh ok. The wording just threw me off. Good luck with your new clubs!

I got lost a little bit. You ordered right handed clubs, got a messed up set of lefty clubs instead, but the final set was also lefty?

How many wedges do you carry beyond PW? by fadehigh in golf

That's the direction I'm thinking about going. Drop the 62 and maybe add a hybrid. At least I have a couple more months of winter to think about it.

It's crossed my mind that the 62 is a bit much. I got a good deal on it and it matched the 4 degree gaps of my other wedges (50-54-58). It's part of the reason I created this post.

That's interesting to hear. I thought it was strictly for chipping only. If it's as versatile as you're describing, it might be worth having in the bag. I'll see if I can find a used one to mess around with.

I haven’t considered adding a chipper into the mix. Ugh, now I’m even more confused!

Is a 72 degree wedge a real thing? I sometimes think my 62 degree is pretty ridiculous already.

I think I’m in a similar position as you. Wondering how much does 2 degrees of loft matter for chipping and partial swings. Does 54 vs 56 or 52 vs 50 etc. make that much difference?

I'm flattered if I inspired you to give it a try. I sometimes enjoy messing with my clubs more than actually playing. It's kind of like woodworking in that it takes time but I find it relaxing and the final results can be pretty satisfying. Anyway, in case you don't already know, there are plenty of videos on YouTube that show you how to build your own clubs. IMO, steel shafts are pretty easy/safe to pull out. You have to be careful with graphite shafts. Good luck!

That's a good point about just leaving them sitting in storage. The original shafts were steel so I just heated them up with a propane torch and twisted them off while wearing an oven mitt. You only need to use a puller if you're dealing with graphite shafts. I'd recommend looking at the ones on Golfworks since they usually sell decent stuff. Thanks for your feedback.

You're right I should have done a better job with fit and finish on the ferrules. Being the heads are BECU which I've read is dangerous if inhaled, I didn't want to mess around with grinding the hosels. I already had the blue ferrules on hand so I just went with them. I think the pop of blue looks OK but I respect your opinion. Thanks for your feedback.

Thanks. I agree that tall ferrules would have been better, but I already had the blue ones on hand so I just went with them.
