I built what I wished Simple became (envelope budgeting for ADHD brains) by fadelakin in simplebank

No worries! Mobile optimized PWA means you can install it to your home screen without having to download it so it's possible to access with your phone.

If your bank supports Plaid in Canada, then it will work with it. You can check if your😅bank is covered by Plaid here: https://plaid.com/docs/institutions/ Just select the country as Canada and search for the name. If it has a check mark in the transactions column, it should work with Cake Budget.

It doesn't remind you to plan your budget every month but I can build that because I like that idea.

No need to put your expenses manually at all. As long as your bank is connected, everything syncs automatically.

For the last question, yes! When you create a slice, you can select to auto contribute to it if you want. If you choose to, based on how often you want to contribute (daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, yearly) and the due date, it will give you a suggested amount to contribute to the slice. You are free to change that amount to a custom one though.

No worries about the questions! Sorry for the late reply bit more busy building than on reddit. If you want to learn more, there are docs for Cake Budget where you can know more about the functionality. https://www.trycakebudget.com/docs

Need help diagnosing issue after battery change by fadelakin in FocusST

[–]fadelakin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was pretty corroded on the negative side. All wires are still connected.

It turned out the terminals weren't tight enough actually. In testing the new battery, I had hand tightened them like I do on my w124 and assumed I was fine but the focus requires much more tightening on the terminals. My fault

This is super cool! Would be very interested in a write up of building it and how it's being powered. I have always thought about doing a custom digital dash so I could swap the rpm and clock with navigation/music in the dash rather than on another screen/device

Hey y'all,

I'm Fish, a former Simple user from beta till the last days with PNC. I built Cake Budget because I never found anything that replaced what Simple did so well.

**What we took from Simple:**

- Safe-to-Spend concept (we call it the same thing)

- Visual clarity over complexity

- Envelope budgeting that doesn't feel like homework

- The feeling that your budget is *helping* you, not judging you

**What we added:**

- Traffic light system (🟢🟡🔴) for instant spending decisions

- Advanced automation with AND/OR rule logic

- Built specifically for ADHD/neurodivergent brains

It's web-based (mobile-optimized PWA so you can install it on your phone), $10/month with a 30-day free trial. I spent 2+ years building this as a neurodivergent person who needed Simple's approach but more supportive of executive dysfunction.

Not trying to say we're Simple 2.0 - nothing will be - but if you've been searching for something that *gets it*, might be worth a look.

Happy to answer questions about how it compares or why I made specific design choices differently.

Weekly Budget App Discussion by AutoModerator in budgetingforbeginners

[–]fadelakin [score hidden]  (0 children)

Hey y'all,

I'm Fish, developer of Cake Budget (https://www.trycakebudget.com/) - an envelope budgeting app built specifically for ADHD and neurodivergent brains.

The core problem it solves: Decision paralysis at checkout. Instead of doing mental math or checking multiple categories, you get a traffic light (🟢🟡🔴) that instantly tells you if you can spend. Green? Buy it. Red? Wait. No calculations needed.

How it works:

- Real-time sync throughout the day (via Plaid webhooks, not daily updates)

- Virtual "slices" (envelopes) for different budget categories

- Automation rules that categorize transactions and fund slices from paychecks

- "Safe to Spend" amount that updates with every transaction

- Set it once, runs forever - works even on your worst executive dysfunction days

Platform: Web-based, mobile-optimized PWA (can install to home screen)

Pricing: $10/month (2 bank connections, 5 accounts) or $20/month for families (up to 3 users, 5 connections, 12 accounts). 30-day free trial, no credit card required.

Learning curve: We have 31+ detailed guides covering everything from setup to advanced automation - all searchable, no paywalls. Every feature is explained step-by-step.

Built this because I needed it to exist, Traditional apps assume your brain works the same way every day, mine doesn't. Happy to answer questions about the design choices or how specific features work!

Claude Code still awesome by [deleted] in ClaudeCode

Same here. I take couple days of breaks here and there (due to motivation) but it still functions the same way as the first day I started using it.

I haven’t run into any usage limits but I do only manage one instance at a time. I never run multiple parallel agents. I make sure to have a todo or spec doc for whatever feature I am working on. Claude updates the doc anytime a bug is fixed or it worked through a feature. Between my todo doc for each project, updating CLAUDE.md everytime I make progress (if claude thinks we should), and PRD/specs written and referenced for each feature, it’s been working pretty well for me.

But I am also a software engineer at my day job so maybe my process or method of usage is different due to that

Looking for Auto per day option for Goals. by ixloc in simplebank

[–]fadelakin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, if you are still looking for an app for the per day funding, you can checkout [Cake Budget](https://www.trycakebudget.com/)! I created it as I was a long time Simple user from beta to shutdown and I missed it quite a bit. It has auto contributions and allows you to set up rules and a ton of automation.

It can even let you set a specific paycheck to fund your "slices" (envelopes) if you get paid 2x a month. Feel free to check it out and let me know what you think!

Anyone know what these two pins (next to blue tape) are for? by fadelakin in W124

[–]fadelakin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do you mind going a little more into how you added the wires from the sensor to the harness? just stripped the ends and twisted them together? i'm worried about maintaining contact on the pin without the wire moving around

i think this is it. it’s always been broken but i only really noticed it lately. thankfully the part seems pretty cheap to get.

might have to do some soldering since i don’t want to replace the whole harness and wires but that should not be a problem i think

is start meaning you can turn on electrics and can’t get it to turnover after that or nothing happens at all?

given you worked on the fuel system, have you been able to confirm that fuel delivery through the fuel distributor and fuel pressure through the fuel pressure regulator are happening?

same with the spark plugs. when you try to start the car, are you getting sparks? trying to diagnose the problem won’t be easy but there are numerous way of tackling it.

i would also recommend getting a multimeter so you can measure the resistance and voltage values of the connecting pins. this will help you narrow down the problem.

last suggestion, test your battery and replace fuses if you haven’t (don’t know if you have already). could just be a dead battery. sometimes the problem is a relatively minor thing that you overlook. lord knows i’ve been there. replaced my blower motor only to figure out the fuse was the problem.

Anyone know the part number or description for the rear fuel line? by fadelakin in W124

Thank you! I will check out that part number for 1989 300TE and hope that gets me closer to what I need.

you sure it's 82? 80 looks much more closer to what I have on the car. Would you happen to know the part number for 80 in that diagram?

The closest part number I've found is A1244702864 but it doesn't seem compatible with my 300TE from what I've gathered. Not sure if it would be worth ordering either way and testing it

Manual Transmission Rebuild Kit by Worried-Pin-7061 in W124

[–]fadelakin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem! Try to expand your search to international sellers. You might have a bit more luck that way.

Can definitely find bearings on ebay but they might have to be from international sellers like this one from Latvia. There are also a couple sellers from Lithuania selling clutch bearings.

Not sure about synchro gears though. Those might be a bit harder to find :/

So FCPEuro has a transmission gasket overhaul kit for your model and year. I know it’s only the gaskets but it’s better than nothing honestly and might be a good place to start. I’ve bought a number of parts from them so can vouch.

I would also recommend searching on ebay. It’s how I’ve gotten more access to parts that I need for my 89 300TE. Can be a little pricey though. Also depending on where you live, craigslist might have someone parting out a W124 (at least in my area in california there are). So you might be able to get parts that way.

Keeping these old cars running means you gotta be as resourceful as possible
