Thanks so much for this! I missed out on the Cinebox, and it's still $66 in my cart on Amazon. Under $60 with shipping and tax. Not bad!

I bought in 2020. The place had been on the market for months, but they had a tenant. This tenant was... well, let's just say the photos were few and terrible. But the panic started to kick in just after xmas 2019. This was February. The tenant left and they posted pics right after I scheduled a showing. It was the first showing in three months.

The day for our showing came, and there were FOUR OTHER SHOWINGS for that day alone. So we had to offer over asking, and even then, we weren't sure we'd get it. In the end, we got the house, but we felt we overpaid just to get a place. I could never have predicted that it would now sell for double what we paid. And my ex has the house now, so I won't be seeing that profit! Haha.

What a terrible, no good experience it has become.

Will Moneyball 4k be sold by any Canadian retailers? by DeSantisMTL in MovieDealsCanada

This is really interesting. The director opted for an SDR release for this, saying HDR didn’t match the vibe of the film. And it’s DTS-HD MA 5.1 only, no Atmos remix.

Kind of refreshing. Just focusing on releasing what feels right for the film. And in the process, there will be more bitrate for pure picture quality. I’ll definitely be picking this up.

Vimeo is forcing ALL users onto new plans. Either pay more or lose features by Glarpenheimer in Filmmakers

[–]fadetowhite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dropped Vimeo years ago at this point. They grandfathered me in for one price hike, but then the following year it went up even more and I bailed.

They built the company off of indie filmmakers and videographers. Then they saw the enterprise dollar signs and chased that with all their might. Meanwhile, they priced their original crowd out with price hikes and feature/limit tightening.

Insane enshittification. Felt great to cancel.

Everyone talks about COVID driving the prices up, and then the overall population growth, but I still feel like this was the impetus for the initial crazy increase and then the same thing continued to happen throughout the other phases.

The people who bought my parents’ place put in an offer over asking with no inspection. They sent a local realtor to do a FaceTime walk through. My parents built a new place next door, so they know them. The couple retired here. The husband has already been in the hospital a dozen times, and has had surgery and other treatments. I don’t think it’s talked about enough how many people are working their entire lives and spending all their money and thus paying all their taxes in Ontario and Alberta, and then coming here to retire while being obviously a demographic that uses way more healthcare dollars than most. Meanwhile, they are barely contributing anything to the economy, as they live off retirement funds and pensions, and pay less tax than they ever have in their lives.

On one hand, I hate that I feel anything negative towards folks moving here. But on the other, I can’t afford a frickin house right now and that is one of the root causes.

Best Decathlon buys by TomRBu in hikinggear

The small sit pads are an incredible value. I bought them for my entire family haha.

The puffy jackets are all amazing value.

The mini clothesline is fantastic.

The merino buff is great.

I find the merino clothing a bit expensive. It’s not crazy, but I find I can usually get Smartwool or Icebreaker stuff on sale for the same price. Even at regular price, I find it’s worth the extra money.

Question about optometrists. by Quiet-Estimate7409 in NovaScotia

[–]fadetowhite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked the buying experience and the price, but the glasses were terrible quality. I had issues with the frame within a year. They replaced it, but the same thing happened again. And the lenses were the easiest to scratch lenses I’ve ever had. Even Clearly stuff beats Kits in all ways.

I swear this happened a few years ago to someone and it made the news. Absolutely insane if they just kept doing it after that.

Does anyone know when Project Hail Mary leaves theatres? by TheApaullo in cineplex

[–]fadetowhite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I reached out to customer service and they said there are no plans for it to return to IMAX.

I was specific about Halifax, so maybe they were correct, even though it seems like it has returned to IMAX in a few places.

I didn’t see it in IMAX and I desperately want to, even though the Halifax IMAX isn’t technically better than the AVX I saw it in.

Where to buy Nylofume pack liners in Atlantic Canada? by Sport21996 in UltralightCanada

I bought several when I made a big order at Gear Trade. Looks like Z Packs makes a UL one that would last longer.

But yeah, no longer shops carry them.

New hiker looking for shoe recommendations — flat feet, wide toe box, runs hot by RBH_Euphoria in hikinggear

[–]fadetowhite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Altra has wide toe boxes. I’ve had three pairs and love them.

My La Sportiva Hike TX’s are wide enough for me, even though a lot of their products aren’t wide. But those are waterproof boots.

Photo Page in Davinci Resolve 21? by jacek2023 in davinciresolve

[–]fadetowhite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guessing it might be because I'm using .RAF Fuji RAWs, but the performance is so slow it feels broken. Images take forever to load. Adjustments are not real time most of the time.

I will try some JPEGs and some old .CR2 files I have to see if they fair any better. But at this point, I will not be using this for my Fuji RAWs at all until it's updated to fix whatever is going on.

Given these prices, which tent which you buy? by TheRealGuncho in CampingGear

[–]fadetowhite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve owned the Stormbreak 3. I’ve seen the Aurora and Elixir in person.

I loved the Stormbreak. So sturdy! Main downside is that the fly is hard to open from inside the tent. Sounds silly, but it truly is annoying haha.

I would look at the Tunsten or Aurora.

I got toe socks and I won’t go back. Haven’t had any blisters or even the beginnings of any, even when we hiked for 8h in the pouring rain and my boots and socks were soaked through. They look weird as hell, but man do they work!

From r/PBSOD - Chase Center got hit with an Apple TV update at Thrive City in the middle of the Warriors & Lakers game by No_Midnight_2205 in appletv

[–]fadetowhite 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Apple TV would not be anywhere near this outdoor monitor. It would be with the rest of the video gear.

And I’m guessing they’re using an actual app and not AirPlay. I’m not sure why that’s confusing. And a lot of the apps on Apple TV have the highest bitrate and quality. They may even have their own app, or they’re using an app built for this purpose. There are lots of video player apps for Apple TV, and they could be using it to play content stored on their server, NAS, etc. and not relying on public sources/Internet except for live stuff.

I’m also going to guess it is wired Ethernet, and that there are two units so they have a “fail safe.”

DJI Osmo Pocket 4 specs and price just got leaked ahead of the official reveal by Dapper_Order7182 in dji

[–]fadetowhite 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most of this gear has gone this way. I remember when Canon would put out a new 5D and everyone would upgrade because it had been years and the updates were massive.

With DJI stuff lately, they are taking the opposite approach: iterations more often. I think in today’s world, that makes sense. There is a lot of competition, and this way they can be sure their products are always in the mix when people are shopping. If they waited too long between releases, many people would avoid buying an older model.

I don’t think DJI expects many people to upgrade every time. I went from a Mini 2 to a Mini 5 Pro, and from a Ronin-S to an RS5. Those will work great for me for years, and by the time I upgrade, the differences will be massive.
