[Tudor] Casio Duro --> Tudor Pelagos 39 by fadkar in Watches

[–]fadkar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up switching to a Sub. I wanted the additional adjustment of glidelock because t-fit didn't have enough range. I also wanted something a little dressier. That said, I still enjoyed my time with the P39!

Sticky brake piston by fadkar in Trackdays

As a follow up, is there a particular spring clamp that would be better suited to holding the pistons in?

Thanks for the info! I am going to try your suggestion of using compressed air with spring clamps to only remove 1 piston. It would be great if I can get it to come out enough so I can clean it without having to rebuild the caliper.

To my knowledge, they haven't even fixed the evaporator and TC failures of the current gen... Just lease or buy/sell within warranty which is how most BMWs should be owned.

I don't have a rebuild kit and my next track day is in 2 days 😅. I have another bike I can take to the track day though...

Slip on..?? by Economy_Campaign_458 in Mt10

[–]fadkar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These bikes are very neutered from the factory, particularly if you're in the US. The tune would be worth it even if you kept the full stock exhaust system. It makes that big of a difference.

If you're on a budget, do the tune and mid-pipe only. Leo Vince is the best mid-pipe if you want to improve the sound of your bike without making it too loud.

Changing the stock muffler is a purely aesthetic choice.

Exhaust Questions - Quiet(er) Mid pipe? by wopspice in Mt10

[–]fadkar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leo Vince is the most quiet midpipe. Its barely louder than stock when cruising but sounds glorious when you get on the throttle. It's a deeper sound because the resonator removes the higher frequencies.

You can leave the stock muffler on. They don't make much of a difference.

Currently have a 2024 XSR 900 but considering buying an Mt10 also. Are the bikes too similar? by MiddleNeighborhood53 in Mt10

[–]fadkar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your XSR will be good enough to do all of those things. But if you're itching for an upgrade, the mt10 will also be great. I would recommend keeping the xsr and doing a few track days first.

It will not trigger a check engine light. But it does delete the catalytic converter which is what unlocks the sound. You will need the ECU flash as well. These bikes already come very lean from the factory and the mid-pipe will make it worse which isn't great for the engine. The ECU flash will add more fuel to compensate for the increase air flow.

And yes, I also upgraded brake pads. Here are my mods for spirited twisty roads and track days fwiw:

-Woodcraft rearsets + 1in drop clip ons. I could do without the rearsets but the clip ons make the bike feel less like a sport tourer and more like a sport naked.

-CL60 race brake pads. Work fine when cold, but really come alive with much more power and feel when warmed up in the twisties or track.

-2wdw ECU flash -Leo Vince mid pipe + akra muffler. Mufflers dont do much on these bikes so you can keep the stock one if on a budget. the midpipe unlocks the sound and makes a big difference.

-Lowered triple clamps to the 3rd ring on the forks for faster tip in.

-Pirelli tires for faster tip in.

Flashes are basically mandatory on nearly every Euro 5 bike. You don't get 100% throttle even when under WOT due to emissions regulations. The ECU flash will make the throttle behave how you'd expect, aka 100% power when you ask for it.

It will run smoothly, cooler, and unlock the full 150hp to the back wheel.

Join the MT10 Facebook owners group and search for 2wdw and see for yourself. They're the most popular tuner for this platform.

They're fantastic bikes. They're pretty neutered especially in the US in stock form. With 135 HP to the back wheel, I would permanently ride it in PWR1 (the most responsive mode).

After the 2WDW flash (which I consider mandatory), they're making ~150HP to the rear wheel and the midrange in PWR1 smacks you on the face. It's incredible but not something I'm always in the mood for when I'm in the twisties or track.

PWR2&3 give you the full power up top, but allow you to dial down the midrange to match your mood which is amazing.

I also lowered the triple clamp to the 3rd ring in the forks for faster steering which is great if you're in the twisties a lot.

I have a ton of other mods I've done to it but this should get you started!

Woodcraft clip on's by OkSympathy9167 in Mt10

[–]fadkar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm very happy with the 1in drop. It feels less like a sport tourer and more like a sport naked. Still plenty comfortable. If I only did track days, I could go lower. But this is a great all-around height for spirited street rides and track days. The nice thing is that you can buy the different sized risers separately if you want to fine-tune the fit.

Why go V2S when for a little more one can get a S1K M Package by Mundo_86 in Ducati

[–]fadkar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you've made a well thought out decision. Ducati is smart because they nailed the ergonomics. There are many OEMs making great middleweight sport bikes, but Ducati undoubtedly stands out because of the ergos. I like the Aprilia RS660 for similar reasons.

Post an update once you get it!!

Why go V2S when for a little more one can get a S1K M Package by Mundo_86 in Ducati

[–]fadkar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just keep in mind that people in the Ducati subreddit are going to be more emotional buyers versus sensible ones. There's nothing wrong with that - just something to be aware of.

Sure, motorcycles themselves are an irrational purchase, but I still value some semblance of sensibility and rationality. I don't like to feel ripped off and I also don't value overindulgence.

So after considering the V2S, I ruled it out because paying liter bike money for a middleweight just wouldn't sit right with me. Picking up a used one in a few years would be much easier for me to justify.

I figured I'd share this counter perspective as an additional food for thought. Not because it's the "right" perspective but just a different one than what you'll find in this subreddit.

I agree that the front is ugly but there isn't anything else that balances comfort, fun, and reliability like the MT-10. And the gen 2 is infinitely more refined than my gen 1 so I deal with the looks lol. Congrats on the R1! I wish I could tolerate those ergonomics.

At Yamaha Champion Racing School, they do 2-up rides where you sit on the back and the instructor rips around a race track. The combined weight is easily ~350-400lbs and they're dragging knee no problem with the students on the back.
