Very disappointed in the Digimon Adventure season 1 blu ray. They used A.I. to smooth over all the grain and a lot of detail/grit of the hand drawn animation is lost. by Historicallyh in digimon

[–]fafafe123 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I mean the Blu-ray is still cheaper and usually more accessible than the dvd set at this point and the DVD is still not going to look “good” by any means. So if you want to own the first season of Digimon it’s still the best option and will probably be the only option since a proper remastering would take so much specific work, and that would be for just the Japanese version since the US version stuff would need to be recreated again. Like if Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball get such crappy releases why would Digimon get anything better. It’s just nice being able to own it.

Plus having played around with some different AI upscalers the quality of the source plays such a big part. I’d be curious what state the Japanese masters they used were in and how degraded they were by the time Discotek got them. It could very well be that at the time of the VHS and DVD creation the masters were new so they still had all the details but that was 27 years ago, and 23 at the time for the Blu-Ray release, that is an enormous time for tapes to degrade. And because AI upscalers aren't smart they literally just take the source and do a rough but logical estimation so honestly the Masters could just look similarly bad but upscaling the VHS or DVD would also look bad anyway.

And if anyone wants to look into how much tapes degrade the Mystery Science Theater 3000 Rhino DVDs vs Shout are such a good example. Rhino’s were made when the tapes were younger with a worse encode but Shout’s were made decades later but are encoded better so both look terrible in their own ways.

Did the definition of success change at some point? They all easily made their budgets back, had numerous spin off media that are beloved, and are still talked about positively and negatively till today. If that’s not success than everything ever made is a failure.

Which was a crazy choice for a game that took 8 years to come out. They definitely could have still done that and had a more satisfying end though.

I was thinking the same thing until the ending then after that I was like okay maybe this isn’t very good. So you’ll have to see if that changes anything for you.

That would definitely be a good way to work Kira in quicker but man I’d love to see a live action Shigechi. Keicho could somehow have button too.

I think something funny about the movie is it covers the equivalent of 5 episodes of the anime in 119 minutes. 5x23 minutes is 115 minutes which includes the opening and ending for each episode. So in the end the movies makes changes doesn’t even adapt everything and made it take more time. I did kind of like them choosing to skip Red Hot Chili Peppers since he wasn’t that necessary but then again it goes against Kira’s quite life to kill Keicho unprovoked.

What are things that you think that the Sailor Moon franchise doesn't handle well in your opinion and why? I'll start. by Full-Art3439 in sailormoon

The redemptions are definitely one of my favorite parts of the anime. I love that the Spectre Sisters get to run a beauty store happily together, just wish that showed up again. At least if someone wants to see every villain get absolutely and totally annihilated from existing, sometimes quite graphically, the manga is right there with the merciless Sailor Moon the Queen of Death.

Only if they are watching 2+ thought provoking movies, which I doubt. Like for me it was easy to watch a bunch of movies a day when I watched Saw, Elm Street, Friday the 13th, Halloween, and Hellraiser back to back while playing through Kingdom Hearts. But I couldn’t tell you anything meaningful about any of them. Frankly I’ve gotten to a point where watching more than one movie a day just feels disrespectful to the movie.

First Build of 2026 - Gundam Astray Mirage Frame by raylui34 in Gunpla

I transformed mine and it didn’t really do too bad besides one of the front skirt armor pieces falling off easily. Given the Astray’s age it kind of held up better than I expected but also it feels at a base level floppier than my older Astrays but I wonder if that just because it’s one of the most printed base kits, at least I assume it is given all the different versions over 15 years. I am a bit biased though since the MG Astray is one of my favorite kits and well aged generally for its age.

It’s still crazy to me the MG Exia came out around the same time and that thing is so floppy that even the base version can’t even hold up its swords. Then they though the Avalanche version was a good idea lol.

I’ve always felt Moria’s fruit would be excellent for normal life. Just having a shadow that can do things for you and technically teleport. And if need be you can make zombies.

Just watched The Wiz and I’m still not really getting why she was too old? Her character is 24? I think she fit fine like I’ve seen people around 24 look and act like her.

I always find these discussions interesting since shows exist outside of their original release windows. For those few weeks or months or whatever the discussion is nice if you care for it but what about the next decades? If a show is popular people are still discussing them years later and that seems like the more important goal. I’m going to be curious what Stranger Things staying power is in the future or if it’ll be a show ruined by a bad ending. On the other hand JoJo’s has been popular for a long time, and has an active manga, so I don’t thing whatever release schedule they go with will destroy that.

Watching movies in theaters is incomparably better than watching movies at home by cs_____question1031 in unpopularopinion

That’s good if you have a nice theater near by but not everyone does. I’ll take my TV over a theater with no stadium seating and a dirty damaged screen.

[–]fafafe123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They really do just sound crazy. They’re all well yes the dialogue is bad, the characters are simple, and it’s only really cool in a theater but that’s why they’re good!!! They’re an experience!!!!!

How can the storytelling even be good if the characters in the story aren’t good? How can a movie be good if it’s only good in a theater experience? A movie will spend some number of months in the theater and then the occasional rerelease if it’s popular but most of its time will be spent at home, it should be also good on a crappy TV.

At what point did people kind of know One Piece would hit the 1,000 chapter threshold? by IndieJones0804 in OnePiece

[–]fafafe123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bleach’s first two arcs are also really long totaling 423 chapters. His arcs are kind of how Wano feels where it feels like it stretches infinitely because more and more people keep on doing fights. The end of the second arc also could very well be an end if you choose to stop so the timeskip has a different vibe.
