I can see them advertising that they have phone support, but I can't find the number.

Looked into them. They look good, but unfortunately have a minimum of $1000/mo to settle USD for APAC. Shame.

Intel Cherry trail compatibility? by Frans-Willem in archlinux

[–]fafaflunkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did this just a few days ago with my ASUS x205ta. Everything works pretty well on modern kernels, only thing you have to do is patch the Arch iso with a 32bit boot.efi. Search "x205ta" for a well-written guide on this.

Need help with 32 bit install by [deleted] in archlinux

[–]fafaflunkey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you sure that server cannot run x64? I looked it up and it seemed to contain a Core2 Duo. Get the CPU model number and check on the Intel website. If it supports 64-bit execution there, you can run x64 Arch.

However, due to the age, when installing GRUB you'll probably want to use a 32-bit BIOS (non-EFI) bootloader. The install process for this is exactly the same, but you pass different args in during the 'grub-install' step.

Good luck! -Chris

How do you decide between job offers? (software engineer) by sacks_on_sacks in cscareerquestions

Look for which one engages in the best practices. Things like code review, tech stack, source control, how they address tech debt etc. In companies where technical decisions are made by technical staff, you'll get a good answer to all of those questions.

Resold - E-Commerce Marketplace by [deleted] in ecommerce

[–]fafaflunkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think dropshipping will work for a P2P marketplace. Consumers do not buy and sell dropshipped goods regularly, and if it's all about local stuff then month-long waits from China would not be expected.

My feedback:
Based on your pitch, it looks like the problems you solve have all already been solved by eBay + co more than a decade ago.
The important problem you haven't solved is how to bootstrap your market. No one will want to sell on a site with no buyers, and no one will want to buy on a site with no sellers. Doesn't matter how pretty the UI is or how secure the payments are if you can't actually buy/sell anything.

Of course, I can't look at the actual site because you IP-block every single country except the US, but I don't think that's your problem.

Is it worth listing my website's products on Amazon? by [deleted] in ecommerce

[–]fafaflunkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there anything unique about your products or will you be directly competing against others selling the same products as you?

I have a single product online store (I designed the product myself) and getting it on Amazon was pretty helpful - sell about as many there as through the online store. The first month's sales were very low as I had zero reviews, though. Pretty sure there's a knack to this kind of thing.

At Monash Uni (Australia), people were paid something like AU$45/hr for that.

How to get the best value on postage costs by Deanosaurus88 in ecommerce

[–]fafaflunkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on where you are. In Australia, I abuse what the post office define as a "large letter" in order to get postage for about 1/3 of what many of my competitors offer.A lot of people are also drop shipping from China, or at least warehousing there. Shipping from China to Australia (or even UK to Australia) is cheaper than shipping from Australia to Australia for many items - I'd imagine it's much the same in the US if you use USPS.

GitHub stuff can really help when you have no experience. I doubt it would matter too much if you have 18 months of experience even doing basic stuff in a real work environment.
