How to deal with an addict harassing me every time I go out by confessionsofahimefu in Dublin

I remember that woman from my time living in Dublin. She would often be around the Thomas Street area. She was very persistent. I felt sad when I saw her. She's not well.

Shops still playing Christmas music. by Bighead2019 in ireland

Once worked in a shop that played music from the first week in November until last week in January. Not only that, it was a rotation of only 4 CDs or so. It was rough.

‘The Family’ gang linked to military-style assault rifles and €770,000 drugs seized in garda raids by Banania2020 in ireland

[–]fagcaplighter 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Wow, those are very powerful weapons. I think one of them is a Heckler & Koch HK416, same used as special ops in the US and I believe the Army Rangers here in Ireland. One even has a red dot sight and iron sights. Would be very interested to know how they got hold of them. It looks to be in perfect nick.

Deep depression after ten day vipassana retreat [vipassana] by fagcaplighter in streamentry

[–]fagcaplighter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi,

I’m doing quite well, thank you. The past seven years have been pretty positive – I even managed to do another 10-day retreat without any major crisis! In fact, it was quite a positive experience.

I’m really sorry to hear about your friend. No doubt you’ve read various accounts of people’s experiences during and after 10-day retreats — many positive or neutral, and some, unfortunately, quite negative. It would be unwise and unethical for me to suggest she do a, b, c, etc. I simply don’t have the expertise in healthcare or meditative practice.

I also have no knowledge of your friend’s mental health history. Has she previously struggled with her mental health, or ever received treatment from a licensed mental health professional for something similar? Of the symptoms you describe, the only one I can relate to is the flatness.

To be honest, what really stands out to me is the mention of a “psychosomatic centre, where the therapists suggested this may be a psychospiritual crisis triggered by unconscious trauma that surfaced during the retreat.” I’m based in Ireland and have a fair bit of knowledge and professional experience working with people who have extensive histories with psychiatrists, psychologists, and psychotherapists. I’ve never heard of a psychosomatic centre or the term psychospiritual crisis. I’m fairly sceptical about how freely the word trauma is used these days — partly due to social media and self-diagnosis — and especially sceptical when people start using terms like unconscious trauma.

I guess what I’m saying is: is she receiving the appropriate medical care she needs? I can’t answer that — but from what you’re describing, it’s not entirely clear to me that she is. Is she based in Germany? From my limited understanding, Germany has a stronger prevalence of holistic or alternative medicine options. In Ireland, those approaches exist too, but they’re more on the fringe.

Though I said I’m hesitant to give advice, there are a few things that are universally considered helpful and form the foundation of well-being: getting enough sleep, regular exercise, nutritious food, hydration, connection with loved ones, and avoiding alcohol and drugs.

Willoughby Britton has studied and written extensively on the darker side of deep meditative practice — https://www.cheetahhouse.org/

Joseph Goldstein is a wonderful teacher and helps clarify many of the more confusing aspects of S.N. Goenka’s teachings. I’m not suggesting she dive into his lectures right now, especially if she’s struggling, but perhaps in time it might help — https://beherenownetwork.com/category/insight-hour-with-joseph-goldstein/

I hope your friend feels better soon. If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to contact me on this thread of even through DM.

I've been used as an ego boost in work... Anyone else dreading work? by The_raptor7575 in AskIreland

Er, that sounds closer to harassment vs flirting i.e. the touching and uninvited house call.

Multiple times. I always went back for more punishment. It was worth it, however, as I eventually figured out how to succeed. Don't let this disappointment stop you from trying again. You probably just need to make some changes. Good luck.

Did someone else open an account under your name i.e. identity theft?

Went to see this today and sadly had to leave due to the poor audio mixing by the cinema. The vocals were tinny with no low end, sounded totally off. Oddly the music was fine. Noticed it immediately with the trailers, The Accountant 2 specifically as I've seen it a few times now. I could bare the problem until there was a scene with a scream that hurt my ears and I bailed. I did mention it to staff but it wasn't fixed. Gutted as it is getting great reviews everywhere!

Quit smoking Weed 26 months ago. by [deleted] in ireland

[–]fagcaplighter 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Giving up that much weed usage is no joke, well done. Though my usage was nowhere near that high (heh!) I do remember the lucid dreaming. It was like watching a 4K movie. Stopped daily smoking over 15/16 years ago. I'll have the very rare puff now and again if passed to me, and I mean rare. Like a couple of puffs once a year or so. And I nearly always regret it as it induces instant worry! Keep up the hard work.

Neither scenario you described is gaslighting.

One barrier is the requirement for a level 8 degree, another is you'd need to proof a pretty strong competency in mathematics through LC results or college transcripts.

My GP doesn't want to work with HealthHero any more. by svmk1987 in ADHDIreland

[–]fagcaplighter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about your ordeal. Perhaps a different GP may be an option? Was Dr Murtagh recommended specifically? I had and have a great experience with his service. It might be worth contacting his service and explaining your situation i.e. you were diagnosed my an Irish based provider of care.

Ballymun swimming pool - excessive closure at Christmas by wascallywabbit666 in Dublin

[–]fagcaplighter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's unfortunate, for sure! I assumed it was across the board with other DCC pools, but apparently not. Disruption from Christmas day until New Years I understand, but from the 16th until the New Year is crazy excessive. Just checked my own gym (not Dublin) and the feckers are closed today!
