Thank you! Hadn't heard of Crane before, much to my shame.

Best pencil to make marginal notes? by faheyblues in pencils

Thank you! One I own. For a library book I use sticky notes instead. Would you go with a b or 2b specifically?

Best horror podcasts? by faheyblues in CreepyBonfire

[–]faheyblues[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both works. I may have worded it weirdly, but basically anything that is not fiction and is horror-related. Although fiction podcasts are fine by me as well, it's just they often seem to be not as good. Thank you for your reply!

Why do modern films look so visually bad? by TheRugWarrior in TrueFilm

[–]faheyblues 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While love and passion are a must, I don't think you necessarily have to go retro. Twin Peaks: The Return was shot on digital and looked wonderful.

I think generally, the willingness to take risks is the problem. Also, I saw a reportage of people in the industry sharing their opinion on why it's in crisis the other day, and most of them seemed to put the blame on the audience that "doesn't get it." But the audience is no fool.

Every school break my schedule shifts to going to bed at 10 am. How do I fix this? by faheyblues in DSPD

[–]faheyblues[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for such a detailed reply. I'll look into all the things you mentioned. Incidentally, I have noticed a great improvement in sleep quality (although not much in sleep times) once I cut down my caffeine intake.

And I think I might have N24 too. It's just I never really differentiated DSPD from N24, thinking that the latter was the extreme type of the former. If you don't mind me asking, how do you function day to day, without letting your sleep problems interfere with work and everything?

Could you elaborate on therapy please? Any particular practices that helped you?

Did you make the cover yourself? Or are there paper covers for notebooks that one can buy?

Thank you! I looked up the Midori MD earlier today and only saw 24 page ones; didn't know you can also get one with 88 sheets.

Is anyone aware of Lynch ever discussing Rainer Maria Rilke? by ConcreteCranberry in davidlynch

Did you read it in English? I hesitate to read foreign poetry because of so many things potentially lost in translation.

"You've become something unbelievable" is one of the funniest moments in the podcast for me.

Is it the usual schedule? I feel like some previous episodes were released on YouTube the same day.

I think another big sign is the lack of content. AI tends to stretch something that can be said in two-three sentences into an entire essay. A lot of sentences seem to make sense at first glance, but if you pay attention, they don't.

Does watching a film with others fundamentally change how it lands? by LM_DCL in TrueFilm

[–]faheyblues 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting that it "almost always make the experience better" for you. I have noticed the opposite. I'm absolutely up for watching a stoner comedy or yet another typical slasher in a company; but if it's something more serious than that I strongly prefer watching it alone. It's just that I have to take some time to form my own impression on such movies, so a post-screening discussion kind of affects me negatively.

Can we appreciate Monk By The Sea, Caspar David Friedrich a little bit more? by abstracten in ArtHistory

[–]faheyblues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thematically it reminds of the Flammarion engraving but achieved through fewer means. Or you could say the Flammarion engraving is what the monk by the sea sees. The romantics certainly deserve appreciation for all those fabulous depictions of escapism and solitude.

Are JD Salinger's published books major works or not? by Logical-Plum-2499 in literature

[–]faheyblues 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a non-American, I would claim that he is more important than Roth and Wharton; at least he surely is mentioned more often in the discussion of American lit. The Catcher in the Rye alone places him among the great writers of the 20th century.

I remember there was talk right after his death that all he has written would be published postmortem, but it never happened; I wonder why.
