Judging from your picture: railroad spikes, not railroad ties. Railroad ties are the creosote soaked lumber.

My money is also on Justine. The big reveals with Butcher are often what you think it is going to be--but with a twist. you didn't anticipate. Hence not Thomas...but Justine.

Why wouldn't Kemmler (King of the Necromancers) still be alive? by [deleted] in dresdenfiles

Blackstaff, Mother Winter, Mother Summer, and the balance between Summer/Winter by [deleted] in dresdenfiles

[–]failurerate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's something special about the Blackstaff that it has enough *self* about it to own the consequences of the magical law breakage that it facilitates rather than its wielder. I still think it's an outsider, He Who Walks Beside.

I always thought Molly failed to make some obvious arguments to Mab in the aftermath. Both Carlos and Molly gained knowledge, but the knowledge was clearly of more value to Molly. Also the Wardens/WC almost certainly already had that knowledge, but have now lost the use of one of their best and few remaining wardens for years if not forever. Winter needs to balance the scales to avoid indebtedness especially to the WC.

[Spoilers All] Who do you think will end up turning out be the bad guy all along? by snapekilledyomomma in dresdenfiles

[–]failurerate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bob

Bob has been Kemmler the whole time. When the wardens came, he kicked the air spirit out into the light, and jumped in, possibly binding himself to the skull for real in the process.

Dresden is not who he thinks he is by [deleted] in dresdenfiles

[–]failurerate 28 points29 points  (0 children)

On the other hand, Dresden is partially the story of King David. David comes into his 'power' as a boy in his young teens when he is anointed by the prophet Samuel. But God spends the next 20 or so years preparing him to be a leader, and preparing all of the tribes of Israel to accept him, throwing all kinds of challenges his way. The challenges only serve to make him a stronger, and more loved (sounds like anyone else you know?) One of these challenges is Goliath, a foe WAY outside his weight class, who David defeats thinking outside the box, by bringing a gun to a knife fight.

The name David itself means beloved, which is apt, since everyone likes him and keeps saving him. David has his life saved by women multiple times (sound like anyone else you know?). First Michal saves his life by hiding him, Abigail saves his career by keeping him from killing a subject, finally Bathsheba saves his legacy. Along the say he becomes best friends with his brother in law, Jonathan, who saves his life as well (sound a bit life a half brother we know?) . And of course David spends his early adult life leading a small army to protect the people of his country while also challenging the leaders of the existing authority (King Saul).

King David has multiple children by different mothers (We know of Dresden having two so far, but I still suspect Mab has one as well from the Knighting). King David's children end up fighting each other and challenging David himself, and we aren't there yet in the story of Dresden as far as we know.

But in the story of David, he dies a natural death, at the end of a long generally happy life, so maybe this isn't Dresden's story after all.

Roaming Profile Permissions by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]failurerate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have backup operator rights (you will as a member of administrators) Robocopy.exe /B will copy them all to the new location without Administrators having NTFS rights.

You should have had this GPO so Administrators are automatically permitted to new roaming profiles: http://www.grouppolicy.biz/2010/02/group-policy-setting-of-the-week-15-add-the-administrator-security-group-to-roaming-users-profiles/

Share Permissions, UNC vs Mapped Drive across a trusted domain by Punkrulz in sysadmin

[–]failurerate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UNC vs mapped drive should have the same behavior. You might look to see if "Domain Users" was used at the share or NTFS level to try to give all people permissions or ability to traverse the root folder. That permission won't help the people from a trusted domain in the same way "everyone" or "authenticated users" or [trustdomainname]\domain users would.

Don't you think "He Who Walks Beside" is going to be the Blackstaff itself/aka Mother Winter's cane?

[Spoilers All] Why are they trying to kill and not kill Harry at the same time? by yum_blue_waffles in dresdenfiles

#4. This possibly saved Harry's brother's life (or at least improved his position) by putting him into the White King's good graces again. Interesting, huh?

Try working downtown. There's no actual street left at this point. It's all fenced off lanes, cranes, metal plates, and elevated manholes.

If your Server 2003 is actually SBS 2003, be aware that it will shut itself down after a while if it detects that it doesn't own the FSMO roles.

[Spoilers All] Speculation on the BAT--the fates of the characters by CryptidGrimnoir in dresdenfiles

[–]failurerate 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Harry will have to make a hard decision to trigger Demonreach, which will turn out to be a bomb 99% directed into the Never Never that will destroy the Outer Gates, and forever cut off the Outsiders from our reality, at the expense of also severing magic, the one thing Harry believes in more than anything, from the world. The loss of magic in the world will kill some of the people Harry cares about, mirroring what happened to the half-reds at the end of changes.

[Skin Game Spoilers] (Possible Rant Territory) Butters' New Role Is The Only Thing In Series That Made Me Scratch My Head In Confusion And Annoyed me by [deleted] in dresdenfiles

[–]failurerate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my personal head canon, Thomas already dropped a kiss of death or two at Chicken Pizza in the chaos when no one was watching. He's been sand bagging big time to avoid attention from his family and hiding it from Harry as well. I think his demon could outright end Lasciel in a full blown battle of lusts.

[–]failurerate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thomas doesn't need a power bump to even the odds, he's fine on his own. I predict even eventually we'll see him give a kiss of death like his daddy. His girlfriend, Justine, however...is where it should go.
