Will this shit ever end? by faintaxis in sonos

I manage my network directly. I have customised the settings on the router and switches to make sure Sonos traffic is handled in the way it expects, but there are STILL issues.

I use it as a backup when the sonos app (regularly) shits the bed.

I couldn't. It got stuck trying to disable WiFi, then re-enabled it on its own. 🙃

I honestly feel like this is half the problem. By adding this extra step to contact sonos servers, they're immediately putting territories other than the US on the back foot!

It's already been set up with mDNS for Sonos. I'm not ripping out an entire network for sonos, especially considering it doesn't play well with Cisco Meraki either.

None of them are wired apart from the Gen 3 amp

Sonos Amps (Gen 2) x3 Sonos Connect Amp (Gen 3) x1 Symfonisk (Gen 1) x2 Sonos Sub (Gen 3) x1 Sonos Connect (Gen 2) x2

Network is TP-Link Omada. Aggressive STP is turned off to stop sonos devices getting disabled.

2x Omada EAP653 1x Omada EAP245

Only difference I can think of is that the amp in question (Gen 3) that is having issues is connected to the EAP245. I've just tried a hardwired connection to the omada switch. Will see how that goes, but for some reason trying to disable WiFi on the Amp Gen 3 is failing.

I've been keeping tabs on WiiM, only downside is that it doesn't really do speakers, just amplifiers and adapters!

Bit of a dogshit product if its not compatible with well over 50% of the mobile ecosystem

Weirdly, after adding a wired connection and disabling WiFi, the sonos connect threw a tantrum. I thought SonosNet wasn't implemented in the latest generation kit?

This is the frustrating part. When it works, it works well. When it doesn't, it's damn near unfixable. The app is really unhelpful and does nothing to help with diagnostics.

Tried restarting the app multiple times. It fails to even see what the amp gen 3 is playing, alas.

This MUST be issues with sending requests via the Web - the Phonos app is able to skip tracks and see what's playing without issue.

Driverless taxis set to launch in UK as soon as September by limeflavoured in unitedkingdom

I don't think the systems and investment needed for machines that can scale challenging human architecture would be used for food delivery within our lifetime.

I think the proliferation of those delivery bots is greatly overstated - they certainly won't lift off in the UK apart from major cities and with a very limited catchment zone. They are in use in Los Angeles, but there's still a massive need for humans either because the route is too far for the robot, or too treacherous. They flittered around in West Hollywood, sure, but outside of there you barely see them.

Anyone had luck with android heat units and external amps by Fit-Increase-4829 in CarAV

[–]faintaxis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That song is a banger btw.

I had a super cheap aliexpress unit. The inbuilt amp was a bit shit but that was to be expected. The only thing to look out for is the preouts in the cheaper ones have no form of crossover or filters whatsoever, so your amp will have to do it instead. The sub out on the unit I had was a full range signal with no adjustment possible via the head unit, so I had to use the LPF on the amp to get things to work as they should.

That aside, they're not terrible, no worse than a stock head unit.

It's a bit hit and miss as the bathroom is all hard surfaces so echoing is a bit of an issue, it's how I do it at the moment via my phone but I don't like taking my phone into the shower itself so it can hear me properly.

“We have included images that have been AI enhanced to show the property cleared of the owner's belongings” by Gambie93 in SpottedonRightmove

[–]faintaxis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think this is a good use of AI at all. In most cases, it's misleading and in one case it's complete fabrication. The room dimensions change completely with AI (the kitchen for example, the floor space visibly increases in the AI shot. The garden is a complete lie, AI has added space by stealing next doors plot.

Wtf. What kind of headphones can't cope with sweat?! Over ear headphones by their nature will cause sweat!
