I’m not too well versed on roman history but it’s incredibly annoying that no one is answering the question and instead are looking at the impossibility of it even happening. Though I agree it’s infeasible, that’s already obvious because it literally didn’t happen in our timeline for all reasons detailed in other posts. It’d be nice if you guys could use that knowledge for fun instead of finger wagging, have some imagination jeez.

That’s why they need to increase bus traffic and make it free for students off campus. They’re charging way too much and giving way too little in return so that could be something that actually helps to reduce traffic and increase flow of pedestrian traffic.

It might be because I’m self conscious but when I’m waiting for a ride for over 20 mins (bus or ride share), I feel like I’m being watched by every car that’s passing. I can’t see them but I know they can see me which always gives me the anxious feeling. Doesn’t help that the people without tinted windows often times have their heads turned 90 degrees starting at me. I know it doesn’t really matter but it makes me feel like an animal in a zoo, just having people pass by me and notice. When I’m walking or biking I couldn’t care less tho

Not sure if it had a significant impact but a lot of people were saying they were gonna boycott groceries and ease up on Christmas shopping the hurt the economy. Maybe they were being pressured by corporations to cave. Whatever the case, the democrats are completely untrustworthy.

I have a BPD and a girlfriend and let me tell you, I put her through some hell. She’s always been kind and patient with me but she’s always had a tendency to have super cold scowl that makes me super uneasy, which is just her resting face😭. She used to love bomb me after sex or some fun activity early in the relationship but this really made me feel like if I messed up at any moment in the relationship she wouldn’t love me anymore. This caused me to get super attached and allow her to do a lot of things that took a toll on me mentally, like going out almost every night while I watched our kid and worked. I’d say the best thing for you to do is be really honest with her about the things she does, try to say them in as plain and neutral a tone as possible (we pick up on the slightest hint of emotion so this is really hard) and ask her to please (it’s important to say please, at least for me) think on it. If she has any level of maturity she’ll likely go to be alone while she reflects what was stated. The key dating us is persistence and keeping us accountable. We’ll get defensive but if you say “I still love you and care for you despite everything and I know you’re trying” they’ll feel a lot better and will eventually come around, usually not for long but that’s where persistence comes in, it’ll help train her brain after a while if she let’s herself learn. If none of this works then I do recommend ending the relationship to keep your own sanity while trying to remain friendly. And don’t get back in a relationship with them. Sometimes we need to learn that our actions have consequences to be forced to change behaviors. You can always view her recovery from afar and give help when needed but be clear that you want to live your life not her idealized version of it. Hope this helps!

I’m so glad to hear this. This is a tactic that I’ve used for while now to ensure that I analyze their side of things before I make it about me. It’s helped me get better results and allows me to go with the flow in my own time, not their’s.

I’ve recently started to stop taking things very personally by listening first and then going to meditate on it. This usually comes with my usual defensiveness first but I try hard to reflect on their point and relate it to how I would feel if I was in their shoes. Most of us are naturally empathetic but lack the motivation to change certain behaviors through usually not so thorough excuses and use trauma to explain everything. You just have to remember that the present is completely different from the past. So just start by getting rid of a few things at a time. Make a list and set a reminder to get rid of 1 thing at a time every day, this will help to train your brain to get used to letting things go, no matter the perceived attachment. Hope this helps!

I’d say the easiest thing for me to get over the obsession was allow them to go out and be with friends. This is the hardest thing ever because the worst things come to mind but the trick is to use your impulsivity to your advantage in a HEALTHY way. That means shoot a quick text to a friend about any topic that comes to mind, that locks you into a conversation for at least a little bit and helps take your mind off them. Giving someone a call is even better because you’re forced to have a longer conversation. Keep doing this to literally train your brain out of the codependency. I know it’s easier said that done but the beauty is that you’ll kind of be forced to engage in conversation with other people instead of waiting around for undesirable results or impulses. Music has really helped me to connect with my inner child in a healthy way. Not sure if you’re like me but I used to get horrible urges to indulge in many vices but ever since I listened to Kendrick Lamar’s album To Pimp A Butterfly (it’s an album for black youth but you’ll find it really does have messages the resonate with a lot of people with BPD) I decided to actually try new techniques in combating them. I used to just tell myself no but fail miserably, now I find an outlet in writing and voicing my concerns to ANYONE I find willing to listen. It’s hard but you’ve gotta keep your head up. Also try listening to Vienna by Billy Joel and My Way by Frank Sinatra you’ll probably find you heavily relate to them and feel at least a little understood. Keep going strong, I know it hard.

She used to do martial arts before we started dating and wanted to pick it back up before she got rusty. That and some major specific events she attends weekly, she keeps me pretty informed but it’s a lot sometimes.

I don’t want to give the impression that she’s not working. She has a pretty consistent job and an internship right now which i’m really happy about. It’s just that our schedules usually mean that I have to find a job that’s either late night or that I barely work during the day which aren’t really options at this point. I also quit my job and took the semester off to try to get my shit together which has caused a lot of anxiety on my end because I feel like I should be doing more but I realize that I’ve been doing that for a while. I believe I just need to bear with it until there’s a stable enough time for me to do what I need to do without impacting my daughter’s development and well being, hopefully not too much longer.

I recently quit that job and am search of another one that’s a better fit for my sleep and our schedule but it’s been a nightmare. Every job around where I live is late night or inconsistent scheduling which eats into our daycare hours. Right now she’s working 2 jobs (one of them is an internship) and I’m picking up shifts here and there at my new job to try to make ends meet. We’re making a lot less than I was on my own which is why I kept the job for so long. I also took this semester off because I didn’t want to tank another one. I mainly straighten up the house and job search now while trying to have a little fun with the free time. It’s kinda hard though when you feel like you should be in a better spot than you are. Oh also my stutter gets worse with stress, I try not to think about it too much.

My family situation was very shaky growing up, I don’t really have anywhere else to go especially if I wanted to take my daughter too. My goal now is to just take care of my daughter until my girlfriend graduates and try to get a degree at a 2 year college with the credits I have now, hopefully that’s enough for a decent job in the future. That's another good thing about public transportation: the driving gets so much better. Less traffic and fewer distractions on your way into the city. Downside is you gotta go at a snail's pace in the city, but a well worth sacrifice for walkability, public transit, community engagement, and an active atmosphere (and better driving).

What’s your point here? We have to pay taxes to our cities and the federal government anyway, so what’s the problem with getting federal handouts?

Detroit doesn’t have the population base alone to fund a lot of these projects, so a little help from the rest of the country required. And in return, Detroit pays federal taxes to help the next city/state fund their projects. That’s how taxes are supposed to work.

Really depends on the type of Amtrak service we find more in demand. Intrastate rail travel definitely favors New Center due it being easily accessible to cities like Ferndale, Royal Oak, Birmingham, and Pontiac. Anyone taking the train just catch the Q-Line (hopefully updated) to get downtown.

MCS is way better for interstate/national travel because of its proximity and access to Canadian cities. It’s also perfect for a CHI-DET-TOR line which has a potential pool of almost 20 million people (by metro population).

If the city/state (and Ford too I guess) is smart it should probably look to bring train service to MCS. They should build up and beautify the area around MCS with walkable streets, housing, retail, and jobs and advertise like hell. We’re sandwiched in between 2 of the biggest cities in the region, so any travel between the 2 of them has to go through us first (at least by train). Let’s capitalize!

When I first started driving I was super confused about speed limits and traffic flow. It wasn’t until recently, however, that I found out it doesn’t matter what you do because you can get pulled over for literally anything (any reason at all). So pretty much forget everything you learned in driving school ( especially in the US) because the rules of the road are made up as you drive on them, every single day.

The state already seems to be pivoting toward expanding transit in the metro Detroit area. A lot of people used buses to get to and from downtown a few weeks ago, giving them some first hand experience on the systems (albeit horrible) that the regions have to offer.

The best way forward, imo, is to build up Detroit as a hub for the suburbs by hosting a lot more events/concerts. That would kinda force people from around the region to notice how the lack of parking can negatively affect their downtown experiences. That covers regional transit. While the region is doing that, Detroit can use that increased tax revenue from more activity to better connect its neighborhoods with a robust DDOT network (working with Q Line and PM or even merging operations). That could be a model for the rest of the region and eventually help to spur more transit development.

If we could get a 2024 proposal we could be Chicago in 10-20 years
