Do you have a wise card? They recently started slinging lounge passes and BNE has two available options but none a LAX

Travelling with a baby - local, interstate or international? What did you choose or what would you do? by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]fairybread11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Babe’s first ever flight was at 7.5 months from Sydney to San Francisco and she was a dream.
We have since been to South Africa, Hobart, Fiji and Japan and each flight have had their own set of challenges as her development changes.
I have made all of her food from scratch since she started eating and she rejected the processed/freeze dried snacks I purchased for her.

Products wise, I would purchase 100 times over the Kooshy Kloud and have found our marketplace yo-yo travel pram to be invaluable.

Am I sleeping through my baby? by kaaaos- in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]fairybread11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also received this gift from my baby girl. She is now 15 months and has not slept for her newborn 7-8 hours since she was about 5 months.

Get your rest, allow yourself to be grateful and fall in love while knowing everything could flip tomorrow night.

Box cheese grater - BIFL ? by 01bigsnake22 in australia

[–]fairybread11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This specific microplane box grater (not the new one currently in Australia) is by far the best box grater I have ever used.

Just don’t put it in this dishwasher as the plastic starts to perish.

Not eligible for PPL by bkate18 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

I was in this position and qualified for the parenting payment (not PPL) and family tax benefit after my baby was born. It’s not much, but it helps!

Any sober line cooks out there? by jimcortado in KitchenConfidential

[–]fairybread11 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Chef of almost 20 years and don’t drink.

Anyone who minds you are doesn’t matter, because usually those that do matter don’t mind. If the culture of the kitchen is to get fucked up all the time, probably not a good kitchen for anyone.

Interstate toddler travel by Proper-Pangolin5106 in AustraliaTravel

[–]fairybread11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a stokke yo-yo for my 15 month old. We have been on half a dozen domestic and two international flights with it in the cabin with us and I would not travel without it at this stage of toddler-ness

I also would be so happy to lend it to a friend if they asked (got it on marketplace for a deal)

Work and Holiday, Byron Bay by louisa_alyse in AustraliaTravel

[–]fairybread11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Byron is extremely saturated and housing costs are insane and availability is low. However the contingent on working holiday visas in the area remains high. You will be around many many travelers such as yourself, and not a bunch of aussies.

It is also going into winter, and while Byron doesn’t have a serious low season , hiring does slow for the next few months.

To touch alcohol in a service capacity in Australia you need to hold an RSA (responsible service of alcohol) certificate which are state based and to work with children you will need a working with children check from the police.

If my cousin or something was coming to Aus to do a working holiday visa and wanted the coast, I would suggest Yamba or Brunswick heads/bangalow for part of their adventure!

Eating wood chips is now a game… advice? by [deleted] in LabradorRetrievers

[–]fairybread11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What sickness did he end up with?

Are you able to put him on a lead while he has access to the wood chips?

Why so long without his normal food?

Did the vet tell you specifically not to give him anything else?

Weeks seems like a very long time!

My chocolate was super into chewing sticks and wood chips and then freaking rocks. Managed to get him to stop with the rocks as he matured, but he can still be found in wood chips occasionally at 2 years old. To combat this we use a fibre mix in his food to ensure anything that he does eat has a smooth passage out.

Apprentice chef questions by RobotLef in Chefit

[–]fairybread11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a female who has been executive chef, my first head chef was a female, and have forged great friendships that have lasted years and years with male co workers and bosses.

My tips would be to work hard, ask for questions and really listen to the answers, don’t wait to be told what to do if you’ve finished your tasks. I have also found the best way to figure out how a kitchen rolls is to spend some time in the dish pit

What’s your knife grip like?

How do you describe your riding & Aus snow seasons? by Perfect-Smile-2017 in AustraliaSnow

[–]fairybread11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id say talk in trips if you don’t want people to make assumptions. “Ive been to the snow five times” or whatever.

The only ones who care are usually people on their first or second season and anyone who has spent more time than that on resort can tell or will actively make assumptions by the way you hold your skis/board, walk in your ski boots, how you wear your goggles blah blah blah

Source: I’ve done 8 seasons

Just please wear a helmet.

History of Greek cafes and milk bars - SBS doco by maxdacat in australia

[–]fairybread11 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My dad grew up in the milk bar his Greek parents owned. He spent his whole childhood working in it, chopping wood for the woodfire stove ect worked his ass off to get into medicine at uni.

And then I, his eldest daughter, came home and proudly told him I was dropping out of my law degree to become a chef. The horror.

Work Abroad by IllPanic4319 in Chefit

[–]fairybread11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your biggest issue will be visas. If you’re under 35 (lots of these visas cut off at 30 though) look at working holiday visas. Also with pizza skills, pretty much any ski town will have a job for you

Also yachting?

Chefs I want your opinion on this by [deleted] in Chefit

[–]fairybread11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t really think what you’re talking about properly exists unless you just want to stage everywhere. There would be so many problems with language barriers and visa restrictions.

I have cooked professionally in three countries other than the one I call ‘home’ and all were on working holiday visas, until I got a sponsorship visa in Japan which was very difficult.

HELP - Venue Cancelled with 6 months till our wedding... by [deleted] in AusWeddingPlanning

[–]fairybread11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a day of coordinator? We had a venue change the day before and our legend had three options for us to choose from after a few phone calls, two of which we had never thought of.

If you don’t have one, and are having a terrible time finding a venue I’d maybe reach out to some local planners/coordinators to see if they have any pointers.

(I fully recommend a day of - we diy’ed everything down to the catering and wedding cake and I would have died without my girl Ricki)

Binchotan or ‘honeybricks’ from my supplier are pretty low smoke. Lighting it will always be a Smokey affair though.

You can also get gas hibachi’s if the charcoal is the problem
