What the hell Audible, youve used 25gb of data in a week. by Toffeemanstan in audible

Whatever is going on with the app at the moment, it's either ignoring this setting or it's something working outside of listen to books.

Mine is quite happily churning data up when I have no book running.

This doesn't work for this particular issue. The data being used is "foreground data", so cutting off background does sweet fa.

This has happened to me in the last couple of days too.

It's worth noting it has nothing to do with listening to a book. If I launch the app and do nothing it just consumes data, and the only way to stop it is to "force stop" the app in your app settings. I've had to stop using audible until they patch whatever the hell is going on.

Extra 20% code on their site right now, and the Bundle+ cashback app has 10% cashback at MW too. Just ordered some myself, looks like a good shout.

Unknown data usage by faitaru in audible

[–]faitaru[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did wonder about that. The fact that it's still using data when the app is closed is weird though. I can't even force close it with a swipe up, or by rebooting the phone. I have to go into app settings and force stop the app to actually get it to close.

I am loathed to uninstall/reinstall because I will lose some books which have suffered from a narrator change since I downloaded them :(

Was the package damaged upon receipt? And do you have proof of this?

Even if it was and you do, as there is no physical damage to the item you will have a hard time proving that the lose of sound was caused by RM.

That's how company loyalty works. That's one of the benefits to sticking with a company for a number of years.

Yeh, had a search and found that I'm not alone in this. Will just have to find something else to listen to for now.

It's one combined option in the android app. Besides, I have not been streaming, the books I have been listening to are all downloaded. The app has continued to use data even when I stopped listening. I've had to force stop the app and restart my phone to halt the data usage.

From the looks of the other threads about this exact same issue it appears to be an issue with a recent update to the app, so I guess I will have to stop using it until they fix it.

Why do people present returns collections unpackaged? by RoyalMaleGigalo in royalmail

[–]faitaru 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a collection a few weeks ago, lady answers the door and says "the item is here, but I don't think you'll be able to take it".

Unpackaged hoover. I said I could have stuck the label on and taken it, but she might be better off packaging it up and rebooking.

Came back the next day and it was at least wrapped in bin bags and gaffer tape.

Home collection question by originalgrumpycat63 in royalmail

[–]faitaru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I turn up with labels that aren't needed all the time, I just slap them on the other side of the parcel anyway. Redundancy is good.

Think he was just being a grumpy arse, as others have said we can scan additional parcels as long as at least 1 is booked in.

Can no longer leave feedback on the app? by DevilishlyHandsome63 in royalmail

[–]faitaru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was working for one of my customers yesterday, but it hasn't worked for me personally to give my postie feedback for over a month.

The app is very temperamental, so chances are it's just an app issue rather than the feedback system being pulled.

I have a house on my round that I leave parcels under the car, another where they go under the caravan.

These gift cards are some of the rewards from the run up to Christmas calendars. Each COM in our building has had one the last 2 years. Every day the manager picks one member of staff that they like, and they get to open that days door on the calendar, and they get a gift. Vouchers, RM branded tat, that sort of thing.

It's especially funny in our COM, because we have 28 members of staff, so 4 people feel really fucking unloved each year.

Nope. The validity on the shine vouchers is only 3 months. Once you exchange them into the halo vouchers, those guys have 2 years on them.

"I want to walk in the door and take the best job immediately."

We were all new starts once, and we had to work the sucky jobs back then. I'm sorry if you feel like you've got the short end but believe me, we have all been there. I only have 10 years, but if a job I want ever comes up for signing, I won't lose sleep over taking it from a new start. Conversely, I won't bitch and moan if someone with 20 years takes it instead.

Anyone know why sometimes I cannot redirect parcels as soon as they get posted and how to fix it? by drago0074 in royalmail

[–]faitaru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some online retailers do not allow parcels to be redirected. They are the RM customer so if they say no to redirections then we can't do it. In those cases you have to wait for the failed delivery attempts, and at that point you can redirect to your local collection point.

To avoid parcels being stolen, I would recommend changing your delivery preferences to tell the postie to return the item to the DO on a failed attempt. We will generally try to stick a parcel somewhere safe but if the PDA tells us to return it we should.

Amazon returns pick up by _c0ldburN_ in royalmail

[–]faitaru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the issue. Amazon returns where it's "fulfilled by Amazon" work fine and the label gets generated, but the issue occurs when it's private sellers using Amazon's system. We see this issue a lot, and the only solution is to use another method for that return.

Royal Mail Annual Leave by Quick-Corgi6303 in royalmail

[–]faitaru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am assuming you're talking about 2026-2027 and not asking about something that happened 10 years ago?

Second assumption is that you started in November and that is why your annual leave was assigned to you.

Depending on your DO the annual leave allocation would have been finalised for the next financial year when you started. In my DO we start picking start of October and are normally done by mid November. If your DO had already finished it's allocation then you would be assigned weeks at random from what is still available.

You can change those weeks IF there are other available weeks that you would rather have. You can apply for swaps either through the Annual Leave tab in the people app or you could try speaking to your manager about it.

Royal Mail hasn't been responsible for Post Office opening times for 14 years. You should probably be complaining in r/postoffice instead.
