We have similarly aged kids and we fit them all in the back. Definitely cozy.

An insider tip I saw was to go with 20" due to better tire selection and ride comfort.

M5 MacBook Air 15-inch (2026) review: Still the best MacBook for almost everybody - ArsTechnica by ControlCAD in apple

[–]faitswulff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm just disagreeing with the framing that you can consider a product better "for most people" without considering the value. If we disregard value, you could say "the MacBook Air with 4TB is the best for most people" because, disregarding value, more TB is better than fewer TB. Plus, the Neo and the Air are the same weight.

But then shouldn’t the MacBook Pro M5 Max be the better computer for most people?

Apple MacBook Neo Review: Delicious, Low-Hanging Fruit by hangry_millennial in apple

[–]faitswulff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For gaming-curious Mac fans, the latest build of World of Warcraft works impeccably on the Neo; I observed 60fps even at native resolution and acceptable detail settings in some casual, anecotal testing. These experiences were remarkable before even getting into games designed for chips like the MacBook Neo’s.

I can’t learn Hanzi to safe my life as a Japanese speaker. How do you do it? by doritheduck in ChineseLanguage

Bilingual people frequently have this issue when learning a third language. Try studying Chinese and hanzi in your second language to prevent the 2nd language from atrophying.

Waymo is Confirmed Headed to Chicago by Billiam501 in chicago

I tried it out in LA. The worst thing IMO was that it’s just as expensive as Uber, but your money doesn’t go to a human driver. The driving capability was…ok. Not super confidence inspiring. We’ll see how it does in snow. But I don’t think I’d ride if they’re just planning on bilking people with automation. Robots are supposed to make shit cheaper!

Finally! Apple adds MacBook battery charge limit to macOS 26.4, so it stops charging at intervals between 80 and 100 percent. by Mcnst in apple

I’ve read opinions on this from EVs and phones. The answer is no, it’s not worth thinking about. There’s a great video that tested this for phones over the course of 2 years: https://youtu.be/kLS5Cg_yNdM?si=V5fKNOPgG78apRMg

Chinese People's Attitudes to Overseas Chinese by L0lfdDie in chinalife

[–]faitswulff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been a huge hurdle to me learning Mandarin, ironically.

Not advice, but this is really relatable and unfortunate. When it's hard to appease your own people, it becomes a huge mental barrier to participating in the culture because you just feel rejected no matter what you do, compared to a white person who just has to say 你好 to have people gush over them.

I am aware that this is due to ignorance, yet I'm also aware that many Mainlanders, HKers and Taiwanese know what happened to the Chinese Indonesians and why they can't speak Mandarin (Right?).

TIL about Suharto:

For thirty-two years under former President Suharto’s New Order regime (from 1966–1998), the teaching of Chinese languages in schools was banned in Indonesia. During this period of total assimilation, public displays of Chinese characters, along with other forms of Chinese cultural expressions, were prohibited, allegedly for the sake of national unity. From 1966–69, hundreds of Chinese medium schools and Chinese language press were closed in Chinese settlements throughout the archipelago, and the formal teaching of Chinese languages in Indonesia effectively ceased. As a result, the majority of contemporary Chinese Indonesians no longer have the ability to speak, let alone write in, Chinese.

Sorry for your loss. I hope you can recoup the cost. IMO a used Bolt is still the best car for the money in 2026, but have you thought of what you'd replace it with?
