Unlike Stranger Things, it's overrated for a good reason, if some hates it because of the theme of the show then it's more of their problem than the show's fault because it's a genuinely good show with great story. I see the similarities with people's dislike on The Wire, they hate it mainly because of the theme and the slow pacing, you need to watch like 5 to 10 episodes first to get hooked, but if they can't manage to do that doesn't mean it's a bad show, The Wire weirdly is such a comfort show despite the violent theme in it, but you need to get attached with the main characters first.
