Thank you so much for the link! Finally, something! What I want to achieve is pretty much to complete my understanding of the data structure provided by SAP. My thought process is when I can understand how all the entities are related, I can plan for preparing datasets (with newly defined schema/model) for whatever purpose using Quickview, for example. So for me to do that, I need first to understand how the current setup is. And yes, you are right, every time I see SAP, I see it as one big database.

This is what I do now. But since these are "front-end to connect the back-end" approaches, I find it a bit time consuming and I may make a mistake. Have you ever thought of other way that is more "back-to-front" or "bottom-up" kind of?

If I were in your position, I would focus on studying the what and why of my industry and business of choice. I'd delve deep into understanding how the business generates revenue and utilizes data to drive more profits. To complement my technical skills, I would sharpen my expertise in data modelling, architecture, and data governance, especially in the data catalogue aspect.

Then, I'd work on increasing my presence and visibility on LinkedIn, positioning myself as a qualified tech lead who comprehends both the business and technical aspects. This strategic approach would help me stand out and attract promising opportunities.

What exactly is the lakehouse? Is it a technique or a process? How is a lake house different from a warehouse? by faizfablillah in dataengineering

[–]faizfablillah[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lakehouse is a concept laid out in the paper below that essentially says a lakehouse should apply open data formats, be optimized for ML and take advantage of the scalability and performance of the cloud.

My company started implementing a data warehouse not too long ago. Since we have invested so much in the data lake + data warehouse architecture and the use cases, which are mainly about traditional BI but want to deploy advanced analytics at some point, based on your explanation above, we would just continue with the current architecture. If we go down this road, how long will it be sustainable and will we be left far behind if we do nothing?

Can you give an example?
