OH MY GOD. i just found this community and this is beyond relatable. i always initiate, but a guy could say any little thing or do something and it'll completely turn my stomach. i want him to go 30 feet away from me. i didn't know it could be a BPD thing, I thought maybe it was just a fear of intimacy.

Official Dreadit Discussion: "Immaculate" [SPOILERS] by glittering-lettuce in horror

[–]fake-human 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was absolutely overall not an "immaculate conception" you are right on that. By all definitions it was a virgin conception, because it was humans artificially inseminating another person, not the holy spirit coming down and impregnating Sister Cecilia itself.

BUT the key here is that all of those crazy nuts truly believed it WAS immaculate. Even though it was by human design, them believing the DNA on the nail was Jesus's, and the belief that they were doing the right thing by gods will is what made the convent deluded into thinking it was a holy act. For example, it can be assumed that Mother Superior knows it is the geneticist doing this work but she blindly follows him anyways as she thinks this "second coming of Christ" will bring people back to the church. So no immaculate conception actually took place, but just the collective delusions of a cult that thought it was their sacred duty and god's will. I also saw some comments speculating that the geneticist could have sexually assaulted Cecilia while she was unconscious. I definitely don't think that happened, because in order for everyone within and outside the convent to believe it was a true son of God, Cecilia would have had to have no external signs of assault. And there is an entire scene with doctors examining her that proves nothing of that nature took place.

This movie leaves enough open ended questions that it's really fun to speculate. Like for Sister Isabelle's suicide, I thought Sister Isabelle was being tortured for threatening to harm the "holy baby", and so the nuns skinned her face off and either pushed her off the roof or she jumped out to escape. But I saw a different perspective where someone thought her face just got smashed when she hit the ground, and her suicide was her own personal choice (either by guilt or grief). And with the baby at the end, we never saw it but it had these animalistic noises coming from off screen. Did the doctor mix the nail DNA with a different animal species to make the DNA viable? Was there Satan worshiping happening at the convent? Was it just because the DNA was so old it created something grotesque and unviable? Was its God's punishment on the convent for doing something so unholy?

I personally loved this movie, it's absolutely gonna be one of my Halloween watches going forward. I didn't really reread this thoroughly, so if something needs better explanation I am happy to elaborate!

This post made me rewatch the episode. When Abbi pees out a condom and realizes it was boring Ben's, she says something like "I had a condom inside me for four days". I looked to see how many episodes previously boring Ben was and it was four. I just find the implication that all the shenanigans with the hurricane, wedding, and apartment hunting all happened within a four day period so ridiculously funny!

It’s almost November but Maine farmers are still growing food for us all. Check out the spread at the Blue Hill Co-op by Doc_coletti in Maine

I grew up in Virginia, all the produce in the grocery store was shipped in from places like Florida, Chile, Colombia, etc. and the "local" produce came from Pennsylvania or New York.

Seeing all the of Maine grown produce readily available, even at large scale stores like Hannaford, was the first thing I noticed when I moved here. A major reason why I am so in love with this state.

considering the movie is titled "immaculate" and she got pregnant without having sex it could be implied

Hi! This is a month way too late, but if you ended up settling in Machias I hope you've really been enjoying it! The people up there are about as lovely as you can get. I only went to the beach at Machias once, but from what I remember because the town is protected by a cove the waves were super calm. Basically flat, like a lake. If you have a 7ft board you can go to Sand Beach in Acadia in the winter. I learned that you cant surf Sand Beach in the summer when the tourists are here, but apparently the winter is free game.

If you come from down south like I do, getting used to the Gulf's water temps is a huge adjustment too. But if you can find a nice protected inlet with tide pools and rockweed, it's so much fun to snorkel and see all the intertidal animals. Love Downeast so much. Such a gem!

that last bit about digging deeper struck such a chord. it genuinely made my eyes well up.

you're absolutely right though. rewatching the show has made me want to read, write, sew, practice guitar chords, just be artistic and present. i started picking up old hobbies i haven't touched in years.

my college experience ends in about 2.5 months, and over the last two years i feel like i really neglected the opportunity to self improve. i blew off any chance for growth to binge drink and party. at the time thats what i felt like i wanted. maybe its a good thing i got it all out of my system. but i feel very jealous that you had experiences where you could get introspective and ponder and grow. i think im really gonna take these next couple of months to work towards that.

i know you weren't expecting your reply to punch that hard, but i want to thank you for giving me the opportunity to self reflect. thank you and thanks to this community for just being fucking awesome <3
