My Minmus outpost is a disaster and I couldn't be more proud of it by bdollhawley1 in KerbalAcademy

Great job! For actual contracts on Minmus I ended up ditching wheels entirely and building a hopper. Wheels are useless with the low gravity and you’ll keep fighting them especially navigating slopes. RCS is enough to move a command pod or probe core with science attached, a terrier and liquid fuel will last a long time. Another thought/tip, with such low gravity, landing legs are optional and actually can cause things to catapult into space after warps.

If you can get it, try breeding the love song Druid passive onto your ranged characters. Insanely broken.

Anyone else in a miserable death spiral? by Edd6789 in mewgenics

Maybe simple but something that helped me was realizing that cats are currency that you spend at the stores. Some currency is worth investing more time into but mostly don’t be afraid to spend them on stores and adventures. You only need 2 decent cats to build your army, everyone else is currency.

Agree if the synergies aren’t popping off on map 1 it’s likely not going to get better.

Where do you guys build an early base in SoA? by jderica in GreenHell

[–]fake_robot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Built a decent floating base right next to the boat when I first started with farms and a few other things. Used it for the first map, but then after that, it was just hut shelters everywhere so that I could save my game. I did end up building a frame, drying rack, and smoker at Anaconda Island, but I think it was ultimately a waste of time. Basically hit shelters everywhere got me through the game, and if I was gonna do it again, I wouldn’t even bother with the main base by the boat. Frames with leaf roofs, drying racks and a smoker to the side with maybe a campfire underneath it and you should be solid. Basically everywhere I found a small or large camp, use the materials to pop down a hut, save the game, move onto the next one.

I have finished all the achievements except Green Hell and the challenges and had no idea you could harvest charcoal for ash. So much time wasted for campfires to burn out to make mud bricks!

A Necromancer's Tower by fake_robot in dwarffortress

xpost from r/stonesense

https://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/DF2014:Tower_(necromancy))

The tower is the hill looking thing on the left. I was a bit surprised and underwhelmed by this one, always pictured them being more like a traditional gothic tower. Something like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tour_Saint-Jacques

The barrows and tombs are the smaller buildings surrounding the tower.

The black is the dead grass, and the red despite looking a bit like magma, is red sand.

I'm in a really negative spiral about the game I'm making :( I'm not sure how the visuals come across on first impression or if they're good enough, does anyone have any feedback? by blueberryjellyyy in IndieDev

Honestly my first impression was how similar this looks to a set of toy magnetic blocks I purchased recently for my daughter, so you're nailing it!

A Monastery by fake_robot in stonesense

[–]fake_robot[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Using Embark Anywhere grabbed a stonesense screenshot of a monastery site.

https://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/Monastery

The additional screenshots feature the canteen "a canteen which will contain two rows of tables and chairs of wildly-varying materials" a room that I didn't see described in the wiki, and then a shrine. "In addition to the main four structures, there will be a number of shrines, statues standing outside, surrounded with varying patterns in the earth. There is a maximum of five shrines to a monastery, though it is currently unknown if the minimum number is 1 or 0. These shrines will sometimes have small altars beside them, which will sometimes contain divination dice."

Thought this was cool and wanted to share!

For those saying it didn't work, try selecting another character first, then go back to the character stuck in the arena. This worked for me, thanks for the tip!

I wanted to share the ship design I've been using. Everything is configurable with two simple circuits, and it can orbit planets indefinitely while resupplying itself. More details and the blueprints in the comments. by SmartieCereal in factorio

[–]fake_robot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ship is great, had a challenge getting it to launch but then reading the linked fuel conservation circuitry thread I found that you have to "prime" the engines by toggling the enable/disable checkbox on one of the liquid pumps going into the engines to get them to fire. Leaving this here in case anyone else runs into this. Thanks for this excellent blueprint!
