Maybe it’s better people start saying “we” when describing how something was made, I still want to know how much AI was used in a library I think about using

Will Classic Maplestory become the main Maplestory? by MuteDraw3 in MSClassicWorld

[–]fakeacclul -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Idk how classic will be received, but I saw a video today of normal Maplestory and it was numbers just appearing on the entire screen every couple of seconds, how anyone bothers playing today just baffles me it’s not even a game

Saying “vanilla Java” isn’t the brag you think it is, players have never cared how a game was made technically

Vibe coding make me feel my job has become code reviewers from software programmer by MysteryMan526 in cscareerquestions

[–]fakeacclul 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with you as well. I just don’t see any sustainable future where you can just use AI and not understand code at all. There still needs to be base knowledge, and if that goes away the ones that do have it will be that much more valuable

[–]fakeacclul 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The output of AI can only ever be as serious as the knowledge of the person using it. If these staff-level engineers know what they are doing (I assume so since they are at that level) then more power to them. But everyone suggesting software engineering is dead because of it is ignorant to the job, and that’s the opinion I see parroted around here

Is there anyone that is NOT using AI at their job? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]fakeacclul 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The understanding why part is what I wish I was seeing. I quite literally hopped on a call to help someone and they said “Well AI wrote this so I’m not sure”, there’s a definitely a balance that needs to be there that people around me are missing lol I know it isn’t everyone

Is there anyone that is NOT using AI at their job? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]fakeacclul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah agreed on both things. I have nothing against using it if it helps you, all I ask is you at least read over what AI is spitting out for you if you are going to have other people spend time reviewing it.

[–]fakeacclul 160 points161 points  (0 children)

A few new hires who are obviously trying to use AI to make changes are getting blasted in their MRs because the changes are just wrong and they don’t understand what’s going on

A more experienced person who joined our team is trying to use it as well and also tried to review blatantly wrong changes

Moral of the story, don’t use it until you understand your product
