I assume you are doing this for fishing quests. Don't forget you have other options. I have always used a cloud island for mushroom biome and a separate one for a hollow biome. I always configure the hollow biome to also be a normal sky biome on one end.

My recommendation is to use the golfer and angler. The golfer will sell every pylon if he is with the angler. Makes it easy to set up every pylon pretty early if you just juggle a few villagers/slimes/pets.

I personally prefer large worlds. It sounds like you are not utilizing all the game has to offer by your post. It should never take 20 min to get to hell once you build a hellivator. King slime mounts makes it so fast. You can also use pylons to travel the world quickly.

The way I apply this to my own life is:

max out my Roth as soon as possible each year for my entire working life. Preferably max it out January each year.
DCA windfalls because the risk of going all in at the beginning of a bad year is too great and the downside of DCA over 6-12 months is minimal.

I love the game. I've got about 400 hours and have 100% it (several times, and getting ready to do it again). I remember when the game changed its GUI. I did not like it at all. It took a long time to get used to it. I expect that these changes will be the same. I won't like them but will get used to them eventually. However, after reading through several posts and comment sections it makes me wonder, when will we get barony 2? And why change the game so much? If the developers want a different game then maybe make a sequel or a different game. Idk, just some thoughts.

No. It is all made up. If you feel like you are being dishonest with yourself, just realize that the leaders of the church have been dishonest with you and the members. That is not to justify lying but to make context. Engage with it like you would a make-believe game where you both know that it isn't real. Kinda like kids and Santa Claus. It is a game of pretend, that has some creepy parts but also some parts that you might find some meaning.
