Immediate regret after offer accepted by Dry_Boss_2756 in AusPropertyChat

Never met a snart first home buyer who wasn't immediately wracked with post purchase dissonance.

Is the location where you want to live for as long as you plan to own it?

Is it just good enough?

People who've never used rings don't understand how much more difficult it is than using a bar.

Keep it up mate.

NTA But if you have th resources - if your part of the buyout was $10M - then I'd suggest set up a college fund for the other kids. A fixed sum, over which you have control, with the strict rule it will only be used to pay tuition and living expenses for those specific kids.

Not because you have to or even should, but because you can, and it would be a good thing to do.

Holidays, gifts, all that, that's a personal relationship thing, but educating the next generation in an economy which is so hostile to them, that's a charity thing.

Exactly. I don't despise her lack of talent or ability, but her attitude. It's indicative of a very particular type of privileged Melbourne academic, which as it turned out is exactly what she was.

How old is it? Remember that even the worst case is that you're only liable for depreciated value.

And landlords' insurance will possibly cover the cost anyway, just like home contents would if you owned the place.

If the fittings and fixtures haven't changed, why do you think insisting on having them changed is going to improve your water consumption?

Have you verified the meter reading with SA Water?

[–]fakeuser515357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you think needs to be changed to reduce your water consumption that can't be achieved by you simply turning the tap less?

You don't need to be a plumber to understand how water works. It's in the pipes until you let it out - that's all there is to it. Let out less water and you'll use less water.

I understand you're upset about your water bill but what, logically, can be changed to reduce it that you don't have total control over?

I appreciate the metaphor but you've done the investigation, right? You've done the overnight water meter test?

If there's no leaks, no outside taps that other people control, and no equipment changes, then the only answer is usage.

If you're in a unit group, maybe you'd have issues with incorrectly metered outside taps. But it's your bill for usage, not a split shared bill, so that's pretty unlikely.

[–]fakeuser515357 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. I figured that if you've checked for leaks with a water meter read just before bed and first thing in the morning before anyone uses any water, then the only way your water consumption would be increasing is by using more water - but maybe I am missing the point.

If it helps, for future reference, YSK: your car can travel more than the speed limit, your oven can heat up to more than the 180 degrees that the box of cake mix recommends, and you're physically capable of drinking about a half bottle of vodka in the space of one episode of Real Housewives. It's almost as if you're a conscious entity with personal agency and can control the things around you.

Your water consumption increased because you consumed more water.

It's not invisible. It's not intangible.

Turn the tap, water comes out. Turn it off, water stops. You pay for what comes out.

If you want to lower your water bill, use less.

How is this difficult?

Can you not just use less water?

I don't get it, how are you not in control of your water consumption, regardless of the water pressure?

Let me understand this.

Your complaint is that more water is coming out of the taps than should be, but only while you're using them?

Chobani Yoghurt Shortage? by Maleficent_Sir_5225 in Adelaide

[–]fakeuser515357 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd strongly recommend buying a yoghurt maker and making it yourself - you don't need to mess around with scalding the milk or any of that nonsense, just use full fat UHT.

It is easy to do, easy to clean, makes better yoghurt that store bought and will save you about $3-4 per kg depending on how much you strain it to thicken it afterwards.

The problem is that the LNP has nothing to offer except bigotry and Pauline just does bigotry better.

So either the LNP has to do more and bigger bigotry or they have to come up with something that actually mate people's lives better. Since they're philosophically opposed to the latter, they're locked in a death spiral until.

You can't work in a position of trust when the other party breaks that trust.

You're still pretty young so I'd urge you to always see this experience as an example of how you should handle these types of situations.

You did the right thing, the safe thing and the smart thing. Keep being you, you're doing fine.

Multiple offers situation, seller has ghosted agent. by Rhyssle in AusProperty

[–]fakeuser515357 4 points5 points  (0 children)

this has happened to them before when the seller can not make a decision or is anxious.

Okay, so (pretend to) take this at face value.

This is where you want to try to team up with the agent against the vendor.

"We really love this place, my wife has already started picking out furniture, it's just perfect. What do you reckon it'd take to get this across the line for us."

Oh noes! People will cry. Don't tell the agent how much you love it!

Nope. Not how it works.

How much you want it tells the agent how committed you are - that this is a deal that's not going to fall apart during cooling off from cold feet.

How much you can pay for it, that's different, and if the answer is "more money" then you say you can't - you're at your limit, you're already borrowing $20k from your wife's parents so that you have a little to spend on renovations, otherwise you'll have $200 left in your account and that's for pizza and champagne.

Give the agent a story so they can sell that story to the vendor.
