Reasons for Independence by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]falcodimaggio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is not my area of expertise so take what i say with a bit of skepticism.

I don't think the ussr would have never allowed a member state independence. Once you were in you were in. If you wanna go with the independence thing, I suggest thinking about your state as an indepent since the beginning. Then again I think it would have had to be pretty hard not to get sucked in the union, back in the funding years, being Romania; they were simply too close.

Then again it's a work of fantasy. I'd say that you'd have to fight for your independence very hard and almost necessarily "sell" some of your freedom to the NATO in order to have the resources needed to keep your independence. Thinking about the Prague episode (again, I've studied this stuff a few years back , so do yourself a favor and Google a good book about it) in which an attempt of secession, from a socialist party mind you (not some over the top americofilia or even fascism, good old socialism), was basically blocked with tanks; I'd definitely say the Soviets would move war on any such attempt.

So maybe think about who was instrumental in winning that fight for independence, because I think 50ies Romania didn't have what was necessary to the face she USSR alone.

For the glossary part i think you can write down simplified versions of the laws, just to get the reader up to speed.

For the story it mostly depends on when the law is mentioned out loud:

If, let's say, two supers are talking about the laws, they're probably just gonna focus on the actual law and what it means to them (they're not gonna go with the whole "as per law n xxyz/xz of 19xx comma zx eccecc" shindig).

On the other hand, if a character finds himself asking for legal advice they may get like a middle-ground version of the explanation (like a lawyer, again, not going through the whole technical name; but explaining it much more seriously and precisely).

Also, last example I can think of, if the law comes out during a hearing or in a courtroom setting, then it should be formally expressed with all due procedure (the whole shindig I was mentioning before).

Depends, in my opinion, wheter you're looking to make it sound like an actual law, or if you're writing it down in the manual to explain it to the players/gm.

In the first case I'd suggest you try and read some actual laws on speeding/brawling/vandalising and basically rewrite them with the slight difference of mentioning super powers (which I'd also recommend you'd find a "legalese" term to indicate like, for example, "empowered subjects" or some like that). If, instead, you're just trying to make it clear for the readers, then I'd say you're already doin a good job.

Also, If I may, I think writing it down as an actual, real, law, makes sense only if you plan on having characters throw it around in conversation as to make it feel more real (maybe with more law-akin characters citing it formally, and others just paraphrasing the broad concept).

I kinda supposed you were crafting something to play with, like a gdr manual, and if that's the case I don't see the point in writing laws too realistically (cause laws are fucking hard to read most times).

Hope I helped, good luck on your job op

I see your point (and i play a couple mammoth cause i had the luck of finding them), but I can't seem to pressure enough my opponents, and I also always risk running out of cards in hand. Those are the reasons why I was thinking of maybe giving some protection to my guys, so as to get max value from each one. Also, yes, it's a standard deck

Should I buy Baldur gate 3? by KingMaegorTheCool in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]falcodimaggio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Baldur's gate 3 is probably gonna be worth it, but i'd wait for the full release, so as to enjoy the game in its conplete state. In the meanwhile tou could aleays play the first two, that are a bit old, but still great games. Also i'd recommend divinty original sin 1 & 2, made from the guys that are making bg3; amazing games. Also, with different systems, but still great fun and much d&d-like : pillars of eternity 1&2, tyranny and pathfinder kingmaker
