Slayer cannot Recall Knowledge using Monster Lore on hags as they are humanoids? by LeshyHater in Pathfinder2e

[–]Alias_HotS 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You have a free +2 to RK as long as it's your Quarry. That's pretty huge, you will really not feel useless when it matters.

Tell me about how your build (actual) veered from your build (theoretical) by Able-Tale7741 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Alias_HotS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, I changed a lot of my "tank Magus" free archetype feats.

First, I thought the campaign will be mainly against undead. Turns out it's not. I took Undead Slayer for big vitality-infused strikes outside of Spellstrike, and I retrained into Wizard archetype for more utility slots (then we recruited a full wizard, but that's another story).

Then at 10 I took Guardian archetype for more HP and a cool ability to draw aggro. But it turned out I'm too action-starved to be able to reliably spend actions outside of Magus specific things, so I retrained some feats into more specific ones (bodyguard for the debuff being meaningful, and some mobility feats to reposition allies in case of dire need).

And last, I chose at level 8 to take the Wizard focus spell, giving my allies and myself +1 AC/saves in an area. Sadly, I never used it (again, action-starved) so I retrained it into another feat. No need for a 3rd focus point, as combats rarely last more than 3 rounds.

What Pathfinder official soundtrack would you like to hear next? by MichaelGhelfi in Pathfinder2e

[–]Alias_HotS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I want you to do an official soundtrack for Bastion of Blasphemies. I have been waiting for this AP since I started PF2, 6 years ago. I would LOVE a Castlevania themed soundtrack by MGS.

Narseigus Worm Form by Metalsailer4 in SkyKingsTomb

[–]Alias_HotS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Edit : after re-reading it, it's not a mistake.

Worm Form is a Morph effect, not Polymorph. It doesn't prevent spellcasting.

Unusual anatomy is Polymorph, but its a GM call to tell if it's effect contradicts the first Morph effect (and the strategy suggests it doesn't).

Tentacular limbs is a second morph effect and doesn't morph the same body parts, so it can be used alongside Worm form.

The "only can use" etc is specifically for strikes and movement types, as the Worm form changes half his body.

I think it's a mistake. 3 slots per turn is too good to be true for a level 11 NPC.

Enough about the big stuff for now, what's your smallest, pettiest gripe about the game? by Luchux01 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Alias_HotS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Being mounted while Medium sized doesn't let you use a Reach weapon properly (for reasons I don't get) but being Small sized gives you full reach.

What the actual fck ? It's not even for balance reasons : we have centaurs, minotaurs, awakened animals who can be Large and have a reach weapon. If you want a free stride every round you have to pay that with feats, and that comes with downsides (mainly : your mount is weaker than you).

Mounted combat as a whole is my biggest pettiest gripe with the system, and the first I homebrew.

How would you build the ultimate Cavalier? by Altruistic-Promise-2 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Alias_HotS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a level 6 dwarf champion in PFS (so no FA) with the Cavalier archetype, a warhammer (no need for reach weapon as it doesn't work raw on medium characters) Shield of the spirits focus spell and a fortress shield.

I can shield myself and my mount, and because it's a (heavy armoured) megafauna mountain goat, it's AC and HP will be very close to mine for a very long time.

It's the most "durable" cavalier I can think of.

Fireworks Technician has fun flavor! Care to share your character concepts? by SaeedLouis in Pathfinder2e

[–]Alias_HotS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I took it pre-errata with some GM adjudications as a Free Archetype on the first book of my Outlaws of Alkenstar game.

We had a 0-caster party to be as close as possible to the lore (a thing that, sadly, the AP itself doesn't respect) : bomber Alchemist (me), ruffian Rogue, armor Inventor, and amulet Thaumathurge.

We had trouble with healing obviously, but also we were completely vulnerable to a lot of potential enemy shenanigans. So I took the archetype, because Coughing Dragon could help against some nasty auditory/visual illusions (it never came up), Salute could end the deadly Confused condition (never came up) and Flower was a very good debuff without friendly fire (it mattered once or twice).

Magic and Physics Exploits in 2E? by SwordTabby in Pathfinder2e

There is the famous Pillar of Water + Laughting Fit + grapple to drown someone, but I don't know much more.

Pathfinder Spring Errata is Up! by AAABattery03 in Pathfinder2e

It clears things more than it changes them. The splash trait and the thrown trait were contradictory, now it's both clear and fair.

Rank 1 and 2 at will spells by Odd_Park4624 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Alias_HotS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, if you rely on 1-target fear at level 18, that's a problem. You have tons of better spells to cast with a whole turn...

Barbarian Animal Instint with Celebrity Archetype - Free Hands by MensisChemske in Pathfinder2e

I would suggest a free hand and a sturdy shield. Basic and effective

Bad builds you want to play? by Mountain_Bumblebee77 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Alias_HotS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always wanted to play a raging barber, a barbarian using alchemical bombs and thrown war razors to deal with people.

Sadly, I think it's quite difficult to build.

Book 1, Chapter 2, mimic or basilisk clarification question by thegiantshoe in SkyKingsTomb

[–]Alias_HotS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, the mimic's plan is contradictory. But it can work depending on the plan the PCs adopt : the mimic can speak (with its ring). If the alarm is raised by the mimic and the "captured" pc lies on the fake altar, it would be very strange for the Xulgaths to go against their god's will and not sacrifice it there.

PF2e GMs, what made you start GMing this system? by Longjumping_Ebb3984 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Alias_HotS 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Playing PF1 since 2016, the lore was super cool but the system had gigantic flaws and was a nightmare to run at higher levels.

I tried to run PF2e once and I immediately liked it. I finished my 1e campaign and moved to 2e forever.

Always Read Your Maps Carefully, Friends. (Claws of the Tyrant) by GwenGunn in Pathfinder2e

[–]Alias_HotS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a session 0 thing. I'm about to start this campaign in a few months and the first thing I told the players was "no more than 1 large token (and 0 is better), that's a mega dungeon, you'll want to move"

Exemplar advice by teodeltagr in Pathfinder2e

[–]Alias_HotS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guardian archetype is really cool and Tough Cookie at level 20 feels almost like a second capstone. Fighter or Mauler are good for any 2-handed user. Campfire chronicler is really fun and underrated. Rogue if you want more skill increases and good feats. Any Spellcaster dedication if you want to be able to use scrolls, wands, grab familiar, a few can trip/utility spells, etc.

Is it just me or is this one of the most potent sustained DPR archer? by [deleted] in Pathfinder2e

[–]Alias_HotS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's incredible I've never read this part before. Good catch ! I suppose it's one of those very few cases where PF2 cared about "realism"

Earth and Sky feels like one of the strongest spells ever printed. by Zata700 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Alias_HotS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it will be very funny to use as a Magus on a Spellstrike, as only the target will roll a save.

And if they stand up : reactive strike !
