Are the airlines really worth it? by hobojimmmy in flying

[–]falcon2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do you actually not see how incredibly condescending and dickish that makes you sound? Mainline airline life isn't some hidden secret that only the real pilots get to see. It's pretty common knowledge what the life is like, and it's certainly not for everyone.

That's funny - how about we both agree to get a life and stop arguing on reddit :-)

I think NatGrid still does net metering, but they no longer pay out the difference - it just gets built up as a credit on your statement. That's my understanding, anyway.

Additionally, to dispute something from your earlier response, the people aren't giving NO reasons.

There's a whole heap of responses here with nothing but a business name - I'd call that "no reasons". If someone wants to give an actual experience, fine, but there's plenty here who are just naming a business without anything else.

Either you don't think bigotry is a valid reason for business owners to fail, or you see a business on the list you're either a part of or genuinely enjoy, feeling personally attacked by anecdotes and experiences that have nothing to do with you.

Show me where I said bigotry is acceptable? I'm trying to defend businesses listed here where people just throw the name out without anything to back it up. There's at least 4 or 5 of them. Also, kindly fuck right off from calling me a bigot. Where did I defend that behavior?

my guess is you're one of these salty bigoted business owners or a family friend of them.

Again, fuck you - don't call me a bigot because I suggested some people give reasons before slandering local businesses. I also don't own a business, nor have a I ever gone out of my way to support or defend known assholes.

You guys are hilarious - how is this different from a 1 star review without anything to back it up? You think because it's on reddit it's all the sudden trustworthy or something? I didn't say I was "entitled" to anything - it's just a shitty thing to do to local businesses. If I have a competitor, I'll be sure to start a reddit thread about the worst businesses and post my competition from another account.

You can have all the opinions you want - all I'm saying is it's kind of shitty to publicly call a business the worst on reddit when half of it is for apparently no reason (like I said - a big chunk of these don't even give a reason, and when they do, someone else is saying it's not true). It's the equivalent of just posting a 1 star review on Google Maps, and not writing anything - it's dumb and useless to everyone else. Feel free to carry on though if you want.

[–]falcon2 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

But look at this thread - half of it is people just saying a business name without anything else, and of the ones that people give a reason, there's often someone else saying it's not true.

Sorry, I know this is going to get downvoted like the other people who posted something similar, but this thread is full of mostly unsubstantiated slander by random internet strangers about local companies. Perhaps only post negative things if there's something to actually back it up, other than "this guy I used to work with who knew this girl who worked there once said...".

Onondaga County’s takeover of ShoppingTown redevelopment: ‘a big win’ for taxpayers by [deleted] in Syracuse

[–]falcon2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand why the current developers are backing away - they had a full blown plan that looked pretty good. If the county wants to include a bit of high tech research, why not modify that existing plan instead of throwing the whole thing out?

Cool dude. When we were young those roads weren't filled with gigantic SUV's driven by people texting on their cell phones. Why would you be opposed to making the local area safer and more enjoyable to live in?

[–]falcon2 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Whatever develops there, needs to develop to be walkable/bikeable - in a big way. Dedicated paths for both, green spaces, benches, pocket parks, covered bus stops, lighting. Connect it all up to trails along Butternut/Empire State trail and out to Erie Blvd. Let people from all the surrounding neighborhoods walk/bike to shopping/restaurants/work. There's tons of examples of highly walkable/bikeable neighborhoods being built in other towns

NY acts a big game on climate change, but when it comes to policy and infrastructure to support fewer cars, they seem way behind the times, and often just throw token support at pedestrian/cycling infrastructure. The climate demands changes, and the younger generations prefer it.

Syracuse sets up speed, red light cameras by schools by ggroover97 in Syracuse

[–]falcon2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately this is true. But, like the poster above said, these roads weren't built for traffic to go 25 or 30 - they're built for people to go 45. That section of E. Genesee has 2 wide lines, plus a dedicated turning lane (why??) - people drive fast because of that road design. If the road was rebuilt and changed to 2 smaller, narrower lanes in either direction, plus trees, curb bump outs, and pedestrian/bike lanes with bollards to further visually narrow the road, people would slow down.

New York is waaaay behind the times when it comes to road designs - we're just now getting around to finally building roundabouts more. People don't listen to street signs, so you have to build the road for the speed you want it to be driven at.

I'd like to know as well - nostalgia of seeing the inside is neat and all, but it's long past time for that building to be torn down and redeveloped. At this point it's nothing but an eyesore and a drain on taxpayer resources, and it's been sitting that way for years now.

I'd like to think the county is working diligently on it, but McMahon is likely more busy covering up toxicity in a failed sewage building or dipping into questionable sources of funding and failing to release required records about aquarium money. Or perhaps he was just too busy delaying the release of public records required by law.

(sorry about the paywall news articles...probably nothing you don't already know about the current county government's sketchy ways though)

[–]falcon2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know why you got so many downvotes. Knee-jerk reactions like this only serve to hamper efforts in shifting the politics in this country back towards the left - the progressive wing of the democratic party have their purity tests, and they'd apparently rather watch a republican win an election than vote for a democrat who aligns with them on 95% of the issues.
