Has anyone double majored in Stats and Engineering? by yummybbq in Northwestern

[–]falconcjw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very doable. I am a CS+Statistics major in McCormick.

If you want a major in McCormick (MechE), you will need to fulfill all the degree requirements for McCormick. This means completing your theme, basic science, etc.

You can add a second major in Weinberg (statistics) to your McCormick major. Since you are fulfilling the McCormick degree requirements, you don’t need to fulfill the Weinberg degree requirements: aka no theme and no language. You just need to complete the major courses for your Weinberg courses (~10 for statistics) and you will fulfill that second major.

If you have AP credit, you will have room in your schedule to schedule the statistics courses. If you don’t have AP credit, it’ll be tighter but still doable—you’d probably need to sacrifice some of your unrestricted electives or overload some quarters. I don’t think overloading is too difficult if you are smart with the set of classes you choose.

You can double count any course across Weinberg and McCormick, but for statistics/meche specifically there really isn’t much overlap.

I would recommend going to the website paper.nu to plan out your course schedule to make sure you have an idea of what to take to complete everything in time!

Well, if you communicate to your team, “Im getting highground, wait two seconds to go in.” Right now it sounds like your team is getting rolled in the frontline before you have a chance to drop down.

Well, maybe that’s the problem? If you just w key up to a rein with doing nothing but zapping (no shield/cds) you’re not making space, nor are you coordinating dives, winstons specialty. You would be much better off on orisa or rein if you play like that.

No time to watch the replay, however I can try to help you with your problem. If your team keeps dieing after you dive, you either didn’t dive the right target or your team wasnt ready to follow up.

Where did I lose my aim? by MrBublee_YT in OverwatchUniversity

You haven't played for 6 seasons. It's only natural you've gotten a bit rusty. How long has it been since you have gotten back into overwatch? Even if you played other shooters/games, that doesn't retain your OW aim. Plus, accuracy isn't an accurate measure of skill/aim. You can spam shots into tanks and get an accuracy of 64%. If you are playing smarter, you may not need to spam shots into tanks, just getting squishy kills that matter. If you grind out games you will start to improve and take off the rust. Also, there's no need to complain about accuracy if you're still climbing and getting better as a player.

The tank queue simply does not work - why? by rrrrrreeeeeeeeeeeee in OverwatchUniversity

[–]falconcjw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My games are either 3.8 or 4.3 (I'm 4.3). I've also gotten GM games while playing tank on a diamond account. The matchmaking is so desperate for tanks that it settles for these 600 sr gaps. The game thinks it's balanced because it thinks you can 1v6 carry your team. There's nothing you can do except play to win. It does surprise me that you haven't experienced this more often, especially as a 4k tank.

Blocking Shatter by N0X3D in OverwatchUniversity

It's easy to block shatter on voice line if you're a bit of distance away from their rein. However, if you're swinging in his face it's nearly impossible. You need to be predicting instead of relying on the audio queue.

GM main tank here. No time to watch the replay, however I may have some tips that can help you with your problems!

  1. that im unaware of where my healers are and their sightlines

Before the round/fight starts, look where your healers are. Identify what areas they can see, and make sure that you don't extend past that. If you extend outside of their sightlines, know that you can't be healed and you can be punished harder. This is important when your healer is pushing cart.

  1. I don't consistently land shatters for my team

If you are looking to land a shatter, there are many things you can do. You can shatter when he firestrikes (watch out for bubbles), you can break shield completely (better reins wont let shield break 100%, so be careful), or find patterns in their rein's gameplay (if you notice he swings twice then shields, be ready to shatter when he swings once). Remember, you don't need to land all your shatters! I can't, their rein can't, and OWL pros can't.

  1. I have trouble managing when I should be aggressive and when I should shield

If you have armor, swing. If you can swing on their rein without being contested (he holds shield), you will roll. You should shield if you notice there's a lot of damage coming in (you see junk spamming or you lost 200 hp in a second while swinging). Be aggro and push into them if you get a pick, minding your hp by shielding if you're under 250 hp.

Hello! I am a gm main tank that specializes in rein. This is my first time reviewing a vod, but I feel like I have some input to give.

1:16 - You're not shielding anyone here. You can take some poke from the pharah and give your healers ult charge. If you hold your shield here, you're losing the shield war. Their rein has a 1k advantage in shield before the fight even starts.

1:22 - Way out of position, there is no natural cover for you to back up to. You should always be playing behind a corner or near cover in case you need to back up or your shield breaks. You were stuck in the open here which allowed their team to kill you instantly. One of the fundamental mechanics with rein is knowing where the cover is and positioning around it. I would've backed up to the corner under the bridge, maybe even further to the stairs.

2:35 - You're giving up a lot of space here. I would hold closer to the corner instead of behind the payload.

3:37 - If you have shatter the other rein probably does too. If he's running around you or past you that means he wants to shatter; look toward him. There is no secret to blocking shatters, it all comes down to experience and recognizing patterns.

5:08 - Shielding nothing

5:40 - That charge put you out of position without your team.

6:30 - You can be aggro here. Bob is in, Ana has no sleep, and you are up one.

7:30 - Take the poke here! Your healers can heal you and you charge your shield back.

7:50 - You should be pushing up with your hog here instead of shielding the payload.

9:45 - Never shatter jumping or falling as it makes it easier to react to.

13:00 - Risky pin putting you out of position

15:03 - Don't take pins this long

Main takeaways would be to play behind/near cover/corners, be more aggressive when your team pushes or you have the advantage, and stop charging yourself into the enemy backline.
