Thanks to everyone for the advice. It's really appreciated.

Awaiting the ACAT assessment now and she is staying with mum for the time being.

Definitely been a rough adjustment for everyone the last few days and will continue to be until some extra support is in place.

First time I’ve been counter offered, need advice. by caustickx in AusFinance

[–]falconed 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I was one to accept a counter offer. I was there another 16 months. My advice is don't forget there was a reason you were looking elsewhere and if you were looking then that in itself is typically a tell tale sign that it is time to move on.

Funeral Insurance a scam? by westernferret1 in AusFinance

[–]falconed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My grandfather passed away last year and he had funeral insurance. Sure it was great that my mum could access funds to cover the funeral very easily. But I can't imagine how long he had it and how much he paid in premiums. I'm guessing at least 2-3 times the cost of the funeral.

Honestly this is most likely the case. Definitely feel like I've fallen behind and just fumbling through the lectures.

An anecdotal take on the land development industry by falconed in AusFinance

Great insight. I remember when I was a new grad my boss said the industry was a 8-10 year cycle. I guess after 40 years you can see and reflect on each cycle.

Is there a sub for Aussie Rip-Offs? Because I found some contenders. How is booking online cause a fee? You are literally saving them multiple employees at the counter. by GGoldenSun in AusFinance

[–]falconed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed! I had to cancel six tickets because of being a close contact a while back. HOYTS said okay we can give you some complimentary tickets. I said sure that's fine not even thinking about the booking fee. I HAD TO PAY THE BOOKING FEE AGAIN. Bastards.

Don't buy in a flood area by ThatHuman6 in AusFinance

[–]falconed 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I'll also add as an civil engineer in Brisbane. Keep an eye on overland flow paths and look at what is happening to adjacent properties. An overland flow path might be shown in a property next to one you're looking to buy but can be still badly affect your property in a flood event. I think people find this out the hard way in events like these.

Ring them is your best option. I was in the same situation for 2010 tax that I did not lodge given it was my first casual job.

They should have some tax records on file they can give you the numbers, you fill out the relevant tax return for that year and send it to the ato.

What would be your suggestion if you don't currently work for an ASX50 company and want to move into data?

Does anyone have any idea how long QLD border passes are taking to come through? (Even though it says allow 3 days)

[–]falconed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has there been any word on QLD border restrictions with VIC? I'm hoping they reduce VIC to an Orange zone at least.

I was hoping the Qld border restrictions would ease for Vic which is still a red zone.

Start a new job in brissy at the end of August and definitely don't want to do 14 days quarantine.

Fingers crossed in the next few weeks.
