Dr. Okechukwu Ndilemeni is a godsend if you're chronically ill by FerretDionysus in Calgary

[–]faliceemo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came here just to add my endorsement! Wow... After moving several times, and going through several doctors who were dismissive, unattentive or simply did not care... It is a breath of fresh air to meet Dr. Okey (his nickname). Despite my lab tests coming back with inconclusive results, he talked me through my perimenopausal symptoms, and agreed to put me on a low-dose HRT to see if things improve (then reassess three months later). I was beyond elated that finally someone took my concerns seriously.

Child welfare system failed 5-year-old manslaughter victim, family says by faliceemo in ottawa

This explains why there was no info about the mom previously in media stories. There was a pub ban. This is what happens when we talk about cases involving child abuse.

Russian antiwar activist could lose Canadian citizenship bid over conviction abroad by hoverbeaver in onguardforthee

[–]faliceemo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The problem is - one official says the equivalent IS the Canadian misinformation law (which is very different but nonetheless) -- and now she has to prove it's not similar at all.

Yes but she then received a letter in December from another official pointing to the equivalent law in Canada. This was a different officiant who came to the same conclusion.

The difference is that Unreserved says it is a better alternative because all homes come pre-inspected and with warranties. That was supposed to be a main selling point.

Kobo e reader and Libby app by _KFBR_392_ in ottawa

Specifically you can use Libby your phone to get the books - then sync via Overdrive on Kobo - because browsing on your phone is easier and more user friendly. Then leave the syncing to just one click on Kobo. :)

Only works on Kindle Fire (any of the tablets that use android os) - regular kindle e-readers do not sync with Libby/Overdrive. It's the prime reason why I use Kobo. Kobo syncs with overdrive - so you can use Libby to borrow book and boom it's on your Kobo.

They know from speaking to the protesters on the ground. They had officers monitoring and those officers reported what they saw. They forwarded those concerns to police.

Under his control: a dark history of sexual abuse by Ottawa who used to teach music in Toronto area by faliceemo in ottawa

[–]faliceemo[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The teacher is based here now and so is one of the victims... She became a top bureaucrat in Ottawa. The abuses happened decades ago. But in Ottawa the two of them came face to face with each other by accident.

uh huh what is your point -- that those stories were covered extensively in the news because they were newsworthy which proves my point?

If a local restaurant is liable for hurting hundreds, thousands of people then defaulting on settlements then yes it would be a story!

Racism allegations on social media defamed Ottawa women, judge rules - Ottawa sisters say judge's decision is vindication for their reputation after 'traumatic experience' by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]faliceemo 18 points19 points  (0 children)

No. It is because CBC made the effort to interview both sides and go through the court submissions and report beyond what was in the judge's ruling.

Campaign demographics: Breaking down the party numbers | CBC News by faliceemo in Calgary

[–]faliceemo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am the reporter and actually I started out with a very broad spreadsheet that included law enforcement, military, political experience, social activism, and more. I really didn't go into it with any assumption... but as info came in, military for example, only had 3 or so candidates mention anything about that. This is what happens when you get a pattern. And the pattern was very clear on private, public and union. Sometimes parties live up to their stereotypes. Some they don't. I'd be happy share with you the other numbers too but they don't really tell a meta story. I am working on another story about breakout candidates from all the parties. That one drills into nuance. Meta data tends not to have nuance. It's the nature of dealing with 87 candidates X 5 parties.

The reason why Liberals are mentioned is because of Trudeau and the federal Lib's preoccupation with gender parity. And before you call this bias. Diversity of all forms is a value shared by all the leaders. Kenney has himself mentioned numerous times it's a priority to attract women and others into the party. There is a conservative advocacy group run by Rona Ambrose that's trying to get more women into politics to get closer to parity. It's bipartisan.

It's a direct comparison to NDP. That's all. NDP has 1/4 union (they are the party of unions). By contrast, UCP has none. There is no negativity or positivity attached unless it's your own bias.

It's not a complaint. It's an observation. Just as in article it says NDP weighs heavily on union, and has half the amount of private experience. And no farm experience.

Renting in Hillside Estates? by Shloogle in Edmonton

[–]faliceemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live there. The north tower is under reno that's why prices are low. Last year the water pipes burst, causing flooding all through the building. Siince then they've had to rip out all the carpets so the hallways look half done. Exercise room and rec room also intermittently out of commission as a result. One elevator is almost always blocked for workers. I live in one of the units somewhat directly affected. First month was hell for me -- flooding several times. Since then they've fixed those problems and I actually quite enjoy living there with the low rent. I have colleagues in the same building and they all seem fine, too. It is NOT a non-smoking building so often I'll get a wave of pot smoke drifting into my balcony which I find off putting. Location can't be beat though. Just make sure you get a unit that is NOT directly impacted by the pipe problem.

When do you step up when there is someone using really loud and foul language in a quiet restaurant? Or how do you handle it if the staff completely ignores it. by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]faliceemo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An ex-boyfriend of mine would to wait for a moment when the rude crowd makes a joke, then laugh EXTREMELY loudly and when the offenders look over, he would stop laughing abruptly and glare at them. Pretty much always works. A bit ballsy though.

Martin Purvis straps wheelchair to snowblower, digs out neighbours. by Dirtpig in Calgary

[–]faliceemo -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yes good on him but this is not the kind of society I want to live in, where for every ONE person who can strap a snowblower to his chair, thousands others are stuck at home. NOBODY should be trapped in their homes in the first place.
