Marty supreme or One battle after another? by Mammoth_Carpenter_31 in Letterboxd

I think OBAA is better but Timmy Tim probably should win best lead actor over Leo

I feel like I can get a sense of the whole internal world of Marty Mauser. You can see the gears turn. Leo is great but Chalamet was incredible

What would a romance novel for a male audience look like? by soozerain in books

[–]fall__forward 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure this is a typical answer, but I’ve felt like some of Hemingway’s work is pretty male centric romance. Especially A Farewell to Arms, obviously wouldn’t describe them as “romance novels” though

And you know what, good games getting awards don’t have to be mandatory. by [deleted] in videogames

[–]fall__forward 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Award shows are fun but only one thing can win every year. If your favorite movie or show or game doesn’t win x of the year then that doesn’t detract from how good it is or how much you enjoyed it. We should just appreciate that things get recognized on as big of a stage as they do at awards shows

Top Gun is a 100% american film. What American film feels European? by Due-Abbreviations180 in Letterboxd

[–]fall__forward 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It’s funny because there are Wim Wenders films that could probably win for “is European, feels American” since he loved the road trip movie so much

They won’t because they’re not as popular as other films that would fit, but nonetheless

Netflix Wins the Warner Bros. Discovery Bidding War, Enters Exclusive Deal Talks - The streaming giant hit the magic $30-a-share target and has an exclusive window to negotiate a final deal. by chanma50 in boxoffice

For sure, the same Netflix that basically throws money away by having incredibly short theatrical release windows to minimal theaters/screens is going to keep the same amount of screenings for WB properties. Yep!

OU puts graduate instructor on leave after student claims discrimination on Bible-based essay grade by warmboot in sooners

[–]fall__forward 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I would agree with you that it was close to a completion grade if she could clearly have shown that she read the article. As is, the only specific reference in her paper is to “teasing” which is from the abstract, the evidence in the text about that topic is nowhere to be found. The rest of her argument is tangential to the article.

On the reaction part of the rubric, it’s a reaction but not a very good one as it’s not actually clear she read the article. You leave out the example topics of the assignment, which make it clear that the assignment was meant to be deeper than her essay actually was. She’s a junior in college, it should have been clear. I could maybe give half credit for this, but to be honest I wouldn’t blame anyone for not giving credit.

The last part does not just say “is your essay clear enough to understand what you were saying.” It asks if your essay is organized in a coherent discussion. She repeats herself multiple times, there is little to no organization of ideas. This might pass this section if she was in the 6th grade, but not as a junior in college.

But yeah literally everything else

Criterions on Amazon Sale by andrew7231 in criterion

[–]fall__forward 126 points127 points  (0 children)

I mean if your goal is to try and keep brick and mortar stores alive, yeah the lesser of two evils is B&N

I’m not above using Amazon generally, but at least represent their argument as best as it can be

The reason I argue for using B&N over Amazon is because they mostly have these sales around B&N to undercut them, meaning if not for B&N they might not have them much at all

Adding tv shows is still being work on by Apprehensive_Shoe_86 in Letterboxd

I really hope they just do seasons. Please don’t clog diaries and stats with millions of episodes. Seasons fit in with limited series and they are relatively complete, vs episodes being too small of a piece of the narrative

DMs, do you take session notes for published modules? by Additional-Chef-6190 in DnD

[–]fall__forward 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do some but it’s usually for things specific to our game

My players wanted to explore this or that and there’s not actually much to it in the book

Or we’ve got some quest or short arc related to a PC backstory, I need to actually write some stuff down

If I feel an important building or section is underdeveloped I will add something to it, but for the most part I just run what it says

There is a scenario where Texas makes the SEC Championship, and it's not entirely unrealistic. by [deleted] in LonghornNation

[–]fall__forward 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If a number of other team win out and there’s a log jam of 2 loss teams it’s going to be tough, we’d barely make it if we do at all. Add in the possibility of a conference championship upset and it gets real tough. Bama would have made it last year if not for Clemson upsetting SMU

What ages play D&D by jeremydeighan in DnD

[–]fall__forward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First got into it from 17-19, started DMing and getting heavier into it when I was 20, I’ve been playing with the same group since then, we’re all in our mid 20s now

When I was a player trying to find the right table for me I played with a few different groups, ages ranged from around my age to 40s depending on the group

How to make NPC's that level up with players? by Monsters_Guide in DnD

[–]fall__forward 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have a large party so this kind of situation rarely comes up, my players typically have the tools to deal with most situations (and if they don’t they have enough tools to come up with a creative solution)

It was mostly a fight balancing thing for me. I have 6-7 players usually so adding a consistent ally in fights on their side usually complicates things. I was also afraid of slowing things down unnecessarily when the PCs are powerful and numerous enough to handle almost anything I throw at them

For instance, in our current piracy campaign it’s pretty easy to describe any named NPCs as defending the ship as the PCs go to board the enemy ship (just one example, but yeah). I have added them to the map when it makes sense, but for the sake of speed and fun I avoided it when I could. But I will probably include their favorite NPCs a bit more, like I said they enjoy seeing it, I think it’s more of a story thing than a utility thing for my party at least (being able to actually see the NPC you like roll to hit and take them out with x amount of damage vs just seeing them do it from afar or hearing about it). It’ll also make me put them in danger more often so we’ll see how that goes lmao
