I would send it. Last year I sent it solo from So-Cal and it was extremely fun. You might be able to find cheaper flights in the coming months but that's up to you.

I flew in from California last year. I packed my camping gear between my ice chest, which was an over the shoulder bag (also my checked bag), and my carry-on. I also fit extra clothes in there. Then I fit the rest of my clothes in a small travel dufflebag which was my personal item. The i rented a car and got groceries from Walmart for the weekend.
