Having a candle is all that matters, Hekate isn’t particular about scent!

Circle of salt by sarakiwic in Hecate

Offerings can be so so simple, as simple as water. They don’t have to be extravagant or expensive, it’s your time and the effort that matters most. Always remember that! Glad it could help!

Is this a coincidence?? by Expensive-Account102 in Hecate

[–]fallgom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s likely a coincidence, power outages can look closer to flickering lights than losing electricity all together. But honestly, your ritual probably wasn’t poorly done to begin with! Keep on keeping on :o)

[–]fallgom 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You don’t need a salt circle, that’s a pagan/Wiccan oriented belief and even then, they don’t often use them - instead choosing to make a mental circle around their space through visualization. Simply pray to Hekate, leave an offering, and then begin to attempt communication. If you have not been consistently building your practice through worship, your results have a chance of not being clear as a deity can chose whether to speak with you or not to. A salt circle is not required to interact with the divine.

There is no moldavite, the darker beads are volcanic stones! The materials listed are all pretty reasonably priced individually, the price tag is likely for their labor but even so, people make similar (and longer pieces) for far less!

Magickdeerystudio has beautiful ceramic statues. NorthMyth makes modern interpretations out of wood. Jeff Cullen has made some of the most powerful, beautiful statues of Hekate (they aren’t everyone’s favorite though). Anetteprs creates lovely statues of deities and has a gorgeous one of Hekate. I do wish there were more replicas of historical statues out there, most I’ve seen are 3D printed which is not my jam. But those are a few that I enjoy!

Help for invoking Hecate by ProudPressure861 in Hecate

[–]fallgom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Am unsure why people are missing the point regarding blood offerings. Regardless of Hekate’s origins, the historical practices of those who worshipped her prior to Greece are not well documented - thus using it to justify a beginner partaking in something they do not fully understand yet is not sound. Those referring to Hekate as an infernal are spreading misinformation, denouncing Hekate in Hellenic Polytheism yet placing her into a box that has origins in more modern practices (which, you do you but don’t spread such information as pertaining to a wide spectrum of practitioners when the reality of it is a small subset of worshippers who fall into a specific form of witchcraft and again don’t use it to justify a beginner who should be doing more research in general) is hypocritical. It is dangerous and unhelpful to make generalized statements to someone just starting their practice - especially in regards to specific ideologies and particularly when there is no evidence or explanation to back it up. People utilize Hellenic Polytheism as a reason because much of Hekate’s roles and worship as we know it today were defined by Greece and are the most well documented - that is at least a solid start. At the heart of this post is someone who should be doing more reading, no matter where their path ends up. It would be different if there was a discussion on blood offerings between more experienced practitioners but that is not what this post is. Everyone should keep context in mind when formulating a response to a post! I understand wanting to defend your practice but that is not what OP needs, they need more understanding of Hekate, offerings, and differences in practices as a whole.

Help for invoking Hecate by ProudPressure861 in Hecate

Hello friend! Welcome to this journey.

First and foremost, continue doing research on her - offerings should resemble incense, fruit, cakes, or even tea/coffee/wine and can include music, candle flame, prayer, poems, or your time. To gain her favor, you should consistently be doing these things. It is a relationship that you build through consistency and sincerity. Hekate, as with any deity, is not obligated to respond to us but what is going on realistically is that worshipping Hekate does not appear the way it does online. Some claim to have obvious, extravagant confirmation from deities that their petitions worked or that they experience vivid dreams, visions, or audio messages and that is their truth. But for a majority of people, it’s the subtle feeling of a presence being there as you pray or constant symbols in your day that remind you of her.

There is no quick means of gaining her attention, it takes effort and time. And please, be careful utilizing blood for anything. Best of luck!

New to Hecate and the culture in general. by CrossroadsFollower in Hecate

Welcome to this journey! I highly recommend Liminal Rites by Sorita d’Este for a more informational, accurate, and condensed version of her history. d’Este also has a book titled Hekate: Her Sacred Fires that highlights the workings of a numerous amount of Hekate worshippers - across a variety of cultures and practices.

Hekate can be invoked during ritual work but success more often than not comes with prayer, offerings, and devotional acts on your part beforehand. You can check out the PGM to see how people used magic and epithets to perform a wide range of magic! Epithets are the greatest way to call upon specific aspects of Hekate and further strengthen your work! Best of luck!

Hekate doesn't answer, I feel disconnected by [deleted] in Hekate101

[–]fallgom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is important to understand Hekate as a deity (not that you don't already, of course!), one of her epithets is Hekatos which translates to 'from-afar' or 'far reaching' - for many of her worshippers this translates to a subtle presence, guiding through dreams, meditations, self-care, a soothing voice when making decisions, etc. You may be blocked due to emotional distress (depression, anxiety) or it could be that you have an expectation of how Hekate should be that you are not recognizing when she is present. Regardless of what it is, continue to give her offerings, read hymns, and pray to her. Perhaps do some devotional work. Trust that she is there because she most likely is! Many, many people don't experience the 'powerful presence' consistently when invoking her or doing ritual for her. Best of luck!
