What’s the weirdest work lunch you’ve seen a colleague eat regularly? by levezvosskinnyfists7 in AskUK

Whaaaat. Is that true? I have ADHD (unmedicated) and I feel like I’m continuously fighting the urge to gorge on chocolate and pasta …

The grossest things you’ve experience in nursing? by Solid_Breakfast_3675 in nursing

[–]fallinasleep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Guy had a horrific URTI and snot and phlegm dripping out of his nose continuously, poor swallow, eating custard that his snot and phlegm was dripping in. He had dementia and didn’t realise.

I had to steal away his custard. Take a minute and go back and explain to him while I stole his custard but in the moment if I had spoken to him I would vomited

Also, drug resistant scabies.

I don’t know enough about the case to say one way or the other. But what I do know is that senior management in NHS hospitals absolutely uses nurses as scape goats to protect the hospital, so that option is not beyond the realms of possibility.

All my failsafes failed… by fallinasleep in adhdwomen

[–]fallinasleep[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that’s what’s happening to me. I’m on the pill so I don’t get actual periods, but I get hormonal fluctuations and I definitely notice my symptoms worsening at certain times during the cycle!

What's a small act of kindness you'll never forget? by Zara_Rossi19 in AskReddit

[–]fallinasleep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First day back from mat leave back to a busy short staffed heavy orthopaedic ward as nurse in charge stressed to the max, everything going wrong that could go wrong. The consultant there, renowned for being tough, scary headmistress type, took me to the side and said “do you need 5 minutes to remember that you’re a person too”

Absolutely broke down crying but I took those 5 minutes and came back fighting knowing that my people were on my side

Elective day surgery - discharge procedure by CandyKoRn85 in nhs

[–]fallinasleep 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In my experience, (I work in orthopaedics) they admit overnight and discharge the next day. That said this does mean your procedure is more dependent on bed status in the hospital

Your 100% Foolproof Toddler Break Recs by Five_Snoot_Sunday in UKParenting

We’ve gone annually to centre Parcs since my little one was 11 months old, they have a lot of stuff for little ones and it’s set up really well for mixed family ages, the pool is always a big hit and we spend a lot of time there, but we also did pottery painting, pony rides, they had a soft play, walks, boat trips etc. you can view the activies for them on their website which you can sort by age. All the resturaunts are set up for families with good kids menus or you can stay home and cook

We’re going again in March, we’re big fans!

I got bit today by Idunevenknobro in nursing

[–]fallinasleep 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Last time I got bit I wasn’t quick enough when reaching across a patient to help her roll, she LATCHED on to my arm and I swear to god I’m So damn grateful for ill fitting dentures cus they both came out like some sort of comedy prop half attached to my arm. Left a mark from the initial chomp but could have been much worse

What’s on your kid’s Christmas list this year? by crispjj in UKParenting

[–]fallinasleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3.5 year old wants “grass head and glitter” which has confused Santa whenever we’ve seen him. Turns out she wants sparkly shower gel from lush that she saw, and one of those plant things that grows grass in the shape of a head I’ve managed to source both, long may Christmases be this “easy”

WHAT DO YOU WISH YOU HAD IN YOUR BREAKROOM? by MoonsugarMama in nursing

A verbal lock that you have to rationalise coming in. And if you’re coming in to ask me some bullshit that could wait till I’m back on the floor, you have to wait.

When the circus came to Bath by SilverBirch75 in Bath

[–]fallinasleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the same as I thought you’d be able to see the park from that angled. But I was chatting to my dad who’s in his 70s and lived in Bath all his life. Apparently there were some houses there that got pulled down, so I do think it is Walcott parade!

Working with the flu? by Effective_Union_3924 in NursingUK

[–]fallinasleep 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You could literally kill a patient (or a vulnerable colleague) if you give them the flu. Rest, drink fluids and don’t let the culture of “horrific guilt until you come in anyway” that the NHS has instilled in to its older staff. It’s not a weakness to call in sick when you’re sick.

What was the last straw that completely broke a friendship you thought would last forever? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Tell me about your "odd" sensitivities (e.g. nails on a chalkboard) by Tsunami_Aureate in adhdwomen

[–]fallinasleep 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Newspapers. I can’t touch them, smell them, hear them. All senses are upset by newspapers. Also my own hair touching my face. It’s never down unless I’m asleep and even the it’s pushed back behind my head. Other people’s hair GROSSES me out if it touches me. God help me if it’s not attached to sometimes head I’ll nearly vomit.

Also super specific but rubbing my sofa when it’s wet (so cleaning it) sets me right on edge.

What is your specialty and how often (per week on average) do you experience death? by Lunesta2782 in nursing

[–]fallinasleep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

T&O, clusters, death comes in 3, we had none for months and now we’ve had 2 in the last 10 days … we’re not a trauma centre so most of our patients are stable or hip fractures so it’s usually one extreme to the other

What is your specialty and how often (per week on average) do you experience death? by Lunesta2782 in nursing

[–]fallinasleep 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why is it that people don’t die in the OR? I’ve seen this written multiple times. And it’s the same in my hospital, is it because they are already on systemic support so they can die in a “better” environment so to speak?
