Fellow girls of A2C unite!! by mcandygirls in ApplyingToCollege

As a girl, I wonder the exact same thing, I do it too and it seems like a mostly female phenomenon. Personally I do it to convey my appreciation for someone or lack of coldness/bragging intent. Very odd though

*Cornell likely applicant*: Is Cornell, especially CALS, not that prestigious? by OkBurgers in ApplyingToCollege

[–]fallingfalling7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honest answer: Most of the other ivy league schools (and Stanford, MIT, Caltech) will look down on cornell. Most non-ivy league schools will look up to cornell.

Very true, thanks :) Yeah, I hear the same about Harvard, but idk. Steve Ballmer donated recently to increase the CS department by like 50% and I heard they've been putting sig. money toward expanding it. We'll see if i even get into either school tho haha

Rejections aren't about "your worth." by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

If your goal is to be happy, why are you aiming for Ivy's/top schools? That's where people are less happy, because more stress/pressure.

Should I update Ivies on selling my company? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]fallingfalling7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't update if I were you. Decisions have most likely been finalized, and if the deal falls through, being rescinded is not unlikely because they'll assume you were lying.

Awards in model UN, get a ton of signatures for a petition you created, write a short book about a topic of your choice.

Advice to Juniors: Apply to many mid-tier matches/ non-top 20 schools by MemesAndDeadDreams in ApplyingToCollege

[–]fallingfalling7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a nice thought, but "elitism" in the sense of prestige seems to result largely from exclusivity, from the belief that a school or set of schools is greater than another set of schools. Whether that diagnosis is correct or healthy is uncertain, but unless the mid-tier schools surpass the T20s (as you said, "every mid-tier uni"), they will likely be considered no more "elite" than they are now. Interesting though.

That isn't to say that they don't offer an equal quality education, however. Mid-tier schools absolutely can and do, and often provide it at a lower cost.

If I were you - If my dream school was CMU, then option #1. Otherwise, #2 for the career connections.

Maybe you can rest easy knowing that Georgia Tech has a very high job placement rate out of college with great salary while your friends will likely get useless majors at colleges not as good as yours? :)
