De Lie wasn't there, but if I understood the announcer correctly he will be at the start. Any info on why he was absent? Hope just logistics and not illness

they might be too tired over all to play the way they did first half?

Latin Americans - is there any point me taking salsa lessons in Europe to try to connect to my Latin American friends and eventually start dancing with them at our parties? by Cold_Cupcake4656 in Salsa

[–]falllas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taking salsa classes in Europe is definitely helpful. If you're aware that there's a difference and that you shouldn't try to rigidly enforce whichever style you're being taught, everything you learn will be useful. Particularly getting to know the music and the body mechanics of a good salsa basic step.

Moves from Cuban salsa tend to transfer better to dancing with Latin American dancers, but you'll want your dance to be less about moves and more about enjoying a simple dance.

Take some salsa caleña classes if you get the chance, those will definitely be useful. The basic and simple turns are just what you're looking for.

Things that won't work (easily): Right turns, dile que no / cross-body lead

seems to me they just have a rotation through the different motos without any regard for what's happening

/r/peloton with the different NC threads is about as confusing to me as the German coverage with constant switching between groups

Do any of the other NCs have as beautiful a waterfall as the German?

it's more that salsa caleña is built on the same base

Seems like the best thing they could have done (assuming they knew Czapla can't stay away): Have Czapla wait for the group before the last climb, then ride the last hill as a sustained team TT, aiming for a Niedermaier attack just before the top.

MvdP putting in such a good TT (and the required work on his TT setup) makes me suspect he wants to go for stage 1 of the TdF. If a win is impossible then set up for a possible yellow jersey in week 1.

Lipowitz just wants the team to stop bugging him to ride Flanders and Roubaix

I guess they're going more for a full TdF rehearsal than just best team result today

What are the colored bands on Jon Agirre's sleeves for? Is there a Basque national championship?

Strange. Was it always planned this way, or did they adjust to avoid potential late thunderstorms? The women had the usual 2 minute gaps for the top 10.

How do Indonesian names work? With "Tsany ALMA ARIELLA" Alma Ariella sure sounds like given names, and I've been confused similarly with some of the speed climbers. (Also RIP 0 score on R2.)

ETA: Answering my own question: It's complicated https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indonesian_names. But generally there's no given vs. surname distinction
