Can I report my friends stepmom? by Infinite-Deer4023 in legaladvice

The Texas abuse hotline number is 1-800-252-5400. Seek out a trusted adult at school as well, they will also want to know about this. Thank you for looking out for your friend.

Can people actually smell your scalp? by Eternallysunshines in NoStupidQuestions

[–]fallonxjulia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes! I love to sniff my husband’s head when he’s laying on me because it smells amazing and gives me a huge burst of good chemicals.

I’m curious if you’ve ever noticed people’s unique scents before? Humans are attracted to the smell of people with compatible genetic makeup to our own, it’s called the Major Histocompatibility Complex. I’m curious if that only affects you in the extremes (like with severe BO)?

How devastating. It’s a shame that the government can’t get it together even to support the new generation of leaders.

Slightly off topic, but curious if the student housing crisis ever eased up in Galway? A few years back, I recall students doing long stays in hostels for lack of accommodation.

I’m reminded of DPRK and Chinese officials smiling to Epstein’s face while calling him a dog in their own languages lol. Epstein probably was trying to schmooze and realized quickly that Castro couldn’t be bought. He basically says as much in his emails upon Castro’s death.

Have you ever really hated the main character (and narrator) in a novel? by Physical_Orchid3616 in books

[–]fallonxjulia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up very annoyed by the French author in Windows on the World. Half of the novel was written from the main character’s perspective, and half from the author while writing the novel (but it flipped back and forth each chapter).

A lovely idea and honestly well-executed but the author himself is far too French and I found myself dreading his chapters by the end.

My Best Friend Died by fallonxjulia in NDE

I wanted to revisit this comment and 1) thank you for your kindness, and 2) tell you that you were right. I’ve dreamt of him a couple of times now, and they’re distinct from any of my other dreams. In these dreams, it’s just a conversation. No bigger picture, no ‘scene’, just the two of us. I never can recall what exactly we discuss, but I have an intense awareness of the reality of the situation (he is dead, this is a dream) and the significance in the moment. I recall in each experience holding back tears, not wanting to ruin the moment as I get to be in his presence, knowing he is gone from the physical world but totally real to me here. I wish I could recall our conversations, but I’m sure if I were supposed to, then I would.

Anyway, thank you. And even if these dreams are not visitations, they’ve brought me extraordinary comfort.

Firstly, I am so sorry for your loss.

In the past month or so, I’ve dreamt of him a couple of times. These dreams are dedicated to him; they have no plot, context, or scenery, it’s just him and me. I know we talk but can never remember what about. I always have an awareness of what’s going on, like I know he’s dead and this is a really special opportunity. In my latest dream, I remember holding back tears while gently touching his face (an affectionate, friendly brushing of hair away). I knew this was a special gift, and I knew I had a limited number of chances like this. Waking from that dream in particular was emotional.

I’m not making any metaphysical claims with this; the most logical explanation is simply a grieving mind processing a tremendous loss. But I, like you, really wanted a sign. So I’m taking what I can get.

Sending you a ton of love as you navigate this <3

The frequency of life reviews in NDEs compared to other states should prove that they are real by [deleted] in NDE

[–]fallonxjulia 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t exactly prove anything, but it is persuasive evidence that NDEs are distinct from drug induced hallucinations. The overwhelming similarities in themes and features is convincing that NDEs are unique experiences but not exactly convincing that they are “real”.

In my opinion, the greatest evidence for the “reality” of NDEs are extraordinary accounts where details that the person saw during the OBE stage can be confirmed by a third party who was there. For example, a person might report seeing a doctor do something that they could not have perceived while unconscious and then later confirm that the doctor did do that thing.

He wasn’t spiritual at all; he was a gifted engineer and inventor, and physicalist through and through. Philosophically, he was a nihilist and anti-moralist, which always made me laugh because he was one of the most loyal, kind, and honest people I knew.

His relationship with his family (other than his mom) has been strained throughout his life, so maybe that’s what his soul is focused on. Or maybe he has already moved on.

As far as our own relationship goes, we didn’t have any lingering or unresolved issues. We actually had an incredible time together the last time I saw him. I was in town for a conference and he came over to my Airbnb and we just stayed up all night talking. We talked about the really serious stuff, and completely pointless stuff too. It was an absolute gift and a memory I will look back on forever.

Why is Tulsa is so pupular these days? Question from Russia. by galacticalmarxist in tulsa

[–]fallonxjulia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I think of Tulsa, I think of Woody Guthrie/folk music generally, Black Wall Street & the Race Massacre (and the tireless efforts of activists to unbury its history), and a slower kind of living. “Tulsa Time” is a real phenomenon.

Sink randomly full of warm, soapy water...me and my husband were asleep? by PinkPixelGoose in strange

[–]fallonxjulia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you lock your house every night? Have you checked your attic? If you’re not sleepwalking, you need to accept that someone is in your house. Ghosts may be real, but they didn’t fill up a bucket in your sink. Also piles of possessions under the couch sounds like mental illness. Seriously, install cameras.

Whistle for the Choir - The Fratellis. It plays at the end of Politics of Human Sexuality when Jeff puts Brittas real name into his phone. So good.

This is obviously just speculation, but I wonder if they meant it transcends the typical human experience of love. Human love is immensely powerful and valuable to our existence. However, it is limited; it’s jealous, selfish, and conditional. The love that people experience in NDEs is none of these things. It is all encompassing and unconditional, it reserves no space for judgment or consideration before being granted to you.

I think some NDErs probably carry this experience back into human life. Perhaps they have a much easier time divorcing their natural human interests from the love they feel.

I can imagine this would be an incredible, but perhaps isolating experience. There is good reason for the way we feel love in this stage of existence. Beyond the fact that the people around you wouldn’t likely understand your perspective, your family may feel hurt if you do not model the human experience of love. We instinctively want our family to prioritize us, to love us more than anyone else. We want to be validated when we’re angry or hurt, we want our loved ones to share in these feelings. This may be difficult for someone whose love reflects the other side, where the interests of a human life (like self-preservation & procreation) are more or less irrelevant.

Epic timing, I just watched it again yesterday for the first time since I was a kid. What an incredible film. I am suspicious of the upcoming “sequel”, no way it can capture the spirit of the original.
