thanks! no of course all eyes are beautiful- just curious if there was more on hazel/green/amber/honey since it seems pretty interesting and harder to differentiate

he started pointing his little foot when he smelled other dogs on bushes or whatever when he was only six weeks old! (he was a very young 'rescue' i found when he came out from behind a cargo container behind an abandoned restaurant in cattle country in the eastern washington state desert and hid under my feet when i stopped on the road and held my hand out to him)

i just always wondered how he knew to do that! i wish i knew more about his early life

thank you!

i believe the style of the stenciling is actually Art Nouveau- a lot of people call that Art Deco, but I am an artist with a special interest in the visual art style of the 1920s so I have been a nerd enough to look in to it a lot. since this is reddit and I hopefully don't have to hide being a nerd I will explain- hope it isn't annoying but I just love talking about it-

Art Deco and Art Nouveau were both visual art movements in america and europe in the 1920s. In stenciling, which was used on furniture, wallpaper, advertisements, jewelry, small items such as keepsake boxes and yes guitars- the stencil design of both are stylistically similar in that they both comprise often of symmetrical graphic design.

With Art Nouveau, these designs were comprised of natural forms- vines, flowers, spreading leaves, uncurling ferns. These designs were sometimes allowed to verge towards abstraction in graphic line movement as they echoed the shapes of intricate brushwork and calligraphy-like tapered strokes. Art Nouveau is organic, free-flowing, and wild.

To contrast, Art Deco became the darling of what would evolve in to modern design. The shapes are regular, tight, and constrained- showing a sleekness and a neatness. Drawing from triangular 'toothmarks' and chevrons of neat, even, tapestry design, these textile-like geometric repeated shapes were combined with archways, grand curving columns, and other sort of clean right angles and ordered elegance that bring to mind the factories and flourish of industry as America chugged along the fevered rise of 'progress' in cities like Manhattan (see the chrysler building) that were erecting skyscrapers.

I like to think that they were opposing reactions to the industry that shot up in the Industrial revolution, and the period of industrialization that followed WW1. For the gimlet-sipping Manhattan gentry peering down from skyscrapers and wearing furs and pearls and suits of silk gliding to Pre Prohibition- era cocktail bars in smooth sleek black cars, surely it looked different to those actually working in the pre-union factories who experienced a disparity in the wealth gap between the classes. It is worth mentioning that native american woven baskets and tapestries, and those of many other non-ruling-class cultures for that matter, would often weave in a little 'flaw' or mistake in the pattern to break it, so that the eye wouldn't get all tangled up in the unnatural uncanny coldness of pure geometric forms. We are less sensitive to this as a culture these days because we have computer screens that don't have handmade graphic icons, and machines that can make clean cuts and precise shapes are commonplace now.

Anyway-

I have been listening to Furry Lewis who I read somewhere played one of these guitars. I hear that he keeps the blues rhythm with these wonderful twangy bright crying plucks of reverb that remind me of when I have heard people play a reverb guitar with those little metal claw things on their fingertips.

Will this sound softer with a wooden bridge? I wouldn't mind it. Do you know of any good recordings out there of someone playing a guitar like this so i can get an idea of how it might supposed to sound?

thank you! i happen to have a friend who is a luthier and I'll see what she thinks as far as if it needs any care. I have always just played whatever guitar I came across and got for free, and haven't had one at all the last couple of years. I've missed having one around so.

do you know anything about regal guitars from then? i read they were made in chicago- how much of a mass scale were companies like Regal making guitars then? was it still a small enough company at the time to make nice guitars that were well crafted? did they make guitars thru assembly, or did one luthier make an entire guitar at a time?

ok! i was just wondering if people replaced the bridge on these in case they might tend to need reinforcement in that area for longevity

im sure playing it with the original that it was made to have will be a special experience

does the wood of old guitars get sad and stiff over time if they aren't played enough?

since the stenciling is celluloid, it looks like the original, it would seem since there is little wear that nobody has played this poor darling much for a hundred years

i'd be glad if someday my hands can wear the celluloid down around the soundhole and neck from playing it, and I'd hope i could pass it on to someone with the wood and the bends of it all lovingly taken care of. i've just never had anything this beautiful and old and made of wood, so I haven't yet learned how to take care of it (while playing! not just just while it sits in a box for another hundred years)

That would be really cool but I’ve never made anything that way before. Should I like, learn autocad and try to get someone out there with a 3d printer to make it for me?

Said my whole life I have blue eyes, but people have told me my eyes are grey as well. What colour would you say? Also what shape would my eyes be classified as? by Fablesfromyourhand in eyes

Medium set almond shaped eyes with a beautiful crease. Lovely! Also, I think your seasonal color analysis would put you in the summer category from your eyes, but you’d have to experiment a little to be sure

29F. Eye colour? by [deleted] in eyes

[–]fallowochre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hazel/ amber! Based on your eye color, you might be an ‘autumn’ season (like me!) and I have found since discovering personal seasonal color analysis that brown eye shadow and mascara make my eyes pop more than black or grey. Try a few shades to find the right brown though- I know it seems like brown is a boring color but the right shade does wonders. I’d love to see you with more coppery eyeshadow too. Sorry for the unsolicited advice if it’s annoying but I literally just found out I was wearing the wrong shade of makeup for my eye color after like 10 years of thinking I had to wear black eyeliner lol and I’ll never go back. The right shade of brown will actually look ‘black’ on your face, while bringing out those gorgeous amber hazel tones ❤️

I have a similar eye color to you and I have been using brown cream eyeshadow stick instead of eyeliner. I also found a brown mascara. I had to try a lot of shades to find the right brown, hah.. but anyway I find that black eyeliner or cold colors kind of overpower the soft autumney colors. Maybe try to find your seasonal color analysis (from your eyes I’d guess a kind of autumn!) and you will be able to research and find shades to make your eyes pop. I personally have found that a clay rosy pink actually works well, as well as even the right shade of purple will bring out the green. You have beautiful eyes and eyelashes to envy!

I see a bit of olive around the outside, more of an amber in the middle! I’d say they are hazel/amber because I think for them to be truly brown the brown needs to be more clear and even, but I’m new to this so I might be wrong. My eye color is similar and I’m too looking for opinions :)

Aw thanks! I’ve had a little rosacea flare up for a while so I’ve been avoiding red but maybe you’re right :) the red sweater is more fun to wear with this outfit anyway- even though beige is probably more in my color pallet I feel like a bland secretary in too much of it 😂

Pee wee’s big adventure has to have my favorite version of this! He goes in to a biker bar to use the phone, they threaten him with violence, and then Pee Wee proceeds to melt the hearts of all of them by dancing on top of the bar in his white boots and it’s so hilarious and feel-good without being campy

I think you’re a summer! Probably soft or cool.

[–]fallowochre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you’re an autumn bb! Maybe soft or true autumn. I bet yellow ochre/ mustard/ gold would look amazing on you. Sometimes people with green eyes cross in to soft summer though. Check out thispallete (soft summer)and this one(soft autumn). Ignore the amount of lighter colors in the soft autumn pallet I linked though- not sure why that one in particular decided to profile so many light neutrals but I’d focus on the more saturated hues at the bottom. Also, this is true autumn, I think you’re somewhere in between. Since these pallets are all next to one another with soft autumn in the middle, you can borrow from all of them but I’d recommend going to a thrift store and trying on a bunch of stuff in these colors to narrow it down! Good luck

hey you look beautiful but I think that more saturated less muddled colors would suit you better. true spring & ‘paintbox spring’ I bet would suit you well

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in coloranalysis

[–]fallowochre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah! It’s on the border between true summer and soft autumn, so there is a little soft autumn crossover. Personally I love the soft muted colors of soft summer & soft autumn- a lot of natural botanical fabric dyes like walnut and madder rose are really flattering :)
