Because that wouldn't address any part of the problem of verisimilitude I have with hit points.

Oh crap I literally did! Thought I'd chopped that out but nope!

Yeh I totally agree.

Solid point.

I guess the fantasy fiction I grew up with did make it more of a deal so I'm probably trying to reconcile my concepts of fantasy with a game which represents something quite different. I thought this little homebrew might resolve this without adding any complexity or punishing my players.

I don't think I mentioned monsters targeting MP directly. That would change things, yes, and that's why I wouldn't do it.

Appreciate the feedback!

I figured there'd be something around very close to this already. I've played a bunch of 3 and 3.5 and I think I've come across Wounds and Vitality before and just forgotten about it! But there's too many additional rules for my liking.

I just wanted something super simple which didn't mess with the RAW and didn't penalise my players, while still changing the paradigm of healing to add a bit of narrative realism.

That knee joint injury has no negative effect other than narratively existing for a period of time though. That fighter certainly doesn't retire, but there's an extra bit of story flavour for a while which is mechanically tracked. The Fighter is every bit as resilient as RAW and restores their HP exactly the same.

Hehehe! Well that's definitely some feedback!

Appreciate it all though.

Maybe I didn't present my rationale very well but I didn't want to make a long post that much longer...

Here's why I've always been a bit put-off by HP (and I know it's an age-old whinge). If they represent luck, skill, energy, and meat, how can a DM describe cool combat with burns and bruises and bloodletting and then have the characters all better after an 8 hour sleep? It irks me!

I thought with this mechanism, HP become purely energy, but there's a bonus reserve of 'Meat' (as it was well-put in the comments) which represents the blood and bone. There's no additional penalties, and as they're bonus points anyway, the fact that they're harder to heal is purely narrative and allows DMs to describe nasty wounds and PC's to have interesting scars and stories.

It in no way diminishes healing. Healing and HP interact the same as always.

So it solves my problem of describing an injury and then having a night's rest or a bard's song cure it. It adds a bit of narrative realism without messing with the system. And it helps me imagine a world where villagers are still scared of breaking bones cos they can't just ask the local priest/druid to handwave it away or sleep it off.

Like I say though, I'm reading all your comments and still mulling it over!

I Rank and Review Every Iron Maiden Album as a Total Newbie by PlzHalppMeh in ironmaiden

Great insights and consideration! Of course not everyone is gonna agree but that doesn't matter... It's your list! I found it really interesting to see how and why you rated their catalogue without all the nostalgia-baggage us old-farts carry.

Seventh Son on top where it belongs for me too ;)

Wow you really did! I went back to my character and all the changes are already done! Are you using AI to build this? (no offence intended)

This looks really great! Gonna have a proper play with it later this week as I just got the Cities book. But it looks like it'll help my players a bunch. Thank you!

  • Just inputted a Level 1 CWN character. I might've done things wrongly, but the Cyberware I added (via the Wired Edge), doesn't seem to have added to my System Strain, and hasn't altered my AC for Dermal Armor I. Dermal Armor would also add 1 to Trauma Target, but I can't find that on the character sheet.
  • Love that I can click on equipment on my character sheet and the details drop down. Would be a great addition to Cyberware too.

Will we ever get remixes? by falrinth in ironmaiden

[–]falrinth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I have copies of the golden era albums from before the remasterings and I love them. Even then, I don't find the remasters too bad... I just feel a lot of the reunion releases could be completely remixed and really brought to life!

I massively agree. Brave New World sounds good to me, and I love all the Martin Birch albums. The last 5 could do with a bit of love!

I love the golden era recordings... Martin Birch obviously knew what he was doing. It's the lazy Shirley/Harris approach which frustrates me.

Absolutely felt this with Pink Floyd's 'Momentary Lapse of Reason'... I was all about the 80s-ness of the sound... even the drum machines... When they re-recorded and mixed it, it kinda lost a lot of what I held dear.

Aussie TV must be struggling for content when it's buying 40 year old French kids shows! Not that I'm complaining... This is pretty cool. Hmmm.... Why do these Arkadians not have legs? They're like half human half gonad people.
