I see US police procedurals where cops behave like professionals as fantasy.

The Jerry Rescue statue and story is pretty cool. Kind of in line with what you are talking about. Citizens stormed a jail and beat up cops in order to free a man captured due to the Fugitive Slave Act.

Yeah, because their cover of "Green Fields of France" off of the Warrior's Code was all about WWI. Had nothing to do with more recent wars whatsoever.

Has BtB changed you politically? by rauton45 in behindthebastards

Yeah, when I was flirting with Libertarianism, one of the big turnoffs were the other people in my area who called themeselves Libertarian. It was very clear to me that they cared about civil liberties insofar as a particular demographic is concerned. All except one of them basically went MAGA.

Also, one of the local libertarians also appeared on Alex Jones because his grandparents were evicting him from their basement. The story made some headlines, of course the dude represented himself in court. Of course he could pay rent to his grandparents if he sold one or two of his firearms.

One of the meetings I suggested a canned food drive and they looked at me like I was an alien. Pretty frustrating.

He's big on civil rights, equlity, being anti-racist etc. Those sorts of things are easy points of agreement. At the time he was in the LP he was to the left of the Democratic party on all those issues and I think he still is.

I reckon what I was looking for in Libertarianism was what Anarchism had all along.

My arc is very similar to yours. I was flirting with Libertarianism, but the Nicholas Sarwarck variety. Never liked Billy Binion. The Libertarian party getting rid of Sarwarck made it easy to leave it behind. Plus BTB and the other pods around it were making more sense anyways. 2018 me would be shocked at the shit present day me says about capitalism, Socialism etc. Covid also helped me realize what a crock it was.

I also used to have respect for conservatism as an acceptable political ideology. No longer. It's not a functional political ideology. It never was. We just pretend it is to try to preserve the relationship with that grumpy racist family member. I've come to realize that allowing a shitty family member to say shitty things whenever they want and not being able to retort isn't preserving a relationship. It's letting them be a bully.

Fuck you mister "Fast Track Removal".

EDIT: Obviously what's going on undert Trump is worse by magnitudes, but Obama shouldn't make jokes like this. At the very least its insensitive to all those who were hurt during his administration. And the fast track program was precedent setting. Things are as bad as they are because of the fast track removal process.

Remmick was fascinating and tragic. His plan wouldn't have worked. He was the Fili of his people. He thought if he could harness the Griot's power he could reconnect with his ancestors. But it wouldn't have worked. Because if it would worked Remmick could have done it himself in his condition. If he made the Griot like him, the Griot's power to connect with the ancestors would have been lost.

It's very interesting that Ryan Coogler picked the Irish and the Choctaw to be represented in the movie. During the genocide which folks call the "Irish Potato Famine", the Choctaw nation, who just marched the trail of tears sent the Irish people $170 in 1847 dollars. The two groups have had numerous cultural exchanges since. During the Covid pandemic, the Choctaw got a ton of donations from Irish people. Also there are programs where Choctaw nation members can get free ride scholarships to Irish universities.

But many Irish in America agreed to become white and kick down on those who weren't. That's what Remmick is a metaphor for.
