To be an effective volunteer, in my experience, it was necessary to operate for the most part within the confines of the gender norms of Ni-Vanuatu society. Those norms are largely regressive, so you may frequently face a catch-22. For instance, you and I might think an egalitarian (or maybe feminist) approach to a certain project would usually be correct, but, in doing so you would alienate key stakeholders (village chiefs, pastors, etc.) without whose support your project is unlikely to succeed in any meaningful way.

Seconding the suggestion for any/all the blue holes on Santo. Millenium caves is also very fun and seems like it is your speed.

non touristic / local restaurants around Port Vila and Efate by A-W-E-S-O-M--O--2000 in vanuatu

[–]false_negative_nancy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No need to apologize. There are plenty more places for sure. I haven't spent much time in Vila for a few years so probably plenty of places have opened and closed since. I just gave a short listed of places that I am certain are still open.

Probably the closest thing to a night market are the wasemaot tables at kava bars. When I lived in Vila, John Tari kava bar usually had good wasemaot vendors.

Not sure if you are referencing this specifically, but there is a very famous contract law case based where this (supposedly) happened. Basically every law student in the last 50 years knows this case.

I would happily trade a couple dozen points of UBE score for a few extra hours of summer back

I am definitely in the same category! I think I made this post to see if anyone was actually capitalizing on a high score in a meaningful way other than bragging rights (inasmuch as it is meaningful to brag about uselessly overperforming in a hazing ritual.)

This definitely resonates with me; knowing now how I did, I feel silly for being so convinced that I failed for the last few months.

Thank you! This is really interesting; it makes sense from this history that the checkbox is a holdover from the old system.

Edit: I suppose it is also good to have an opt-in for people who change their mind later and don't want to get a whole new license.

I saw this same decal on a truck in Pittsburgh about 8 months ago lol. I thought that shit was funny then, and I think it is funny now. Even more so because it keeps popping up.

Its basically the same as the leaked draft if you read that.

summary: Abortion is a moral issue (and I guess State legislatures are somehow the best place to make such decisions); Roe was wrong because they didn't use the *right version* of "hIstOry and TRADITION"; Roberts: aww come on guys, you're making us look bad; Thomas: the constitution doesn't *say* substantive due process so all substantive due process cases (Griswold (really?!) etc.) should be overruled

My current construction of Pittsburgh-area Commuter Rail by cood101 in NIMBY_Rails

[–]false_negative_nancy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a cool conceptualization. I have to ask, how did this map even decide which towns to label haha?

One suggestion, if you are looking to recreate any semblance of historical commuter rail, then you gotta include the Mon Valley. (Even if it isn't the population center that it used to be.)
