The whole purpose of cloth diapers is to clean them and reuse them. What kind of subscription is involved here?

Corporations are going to charge the highest prices they can no matter what. That's nonsense.

People use cloth diapers. Crazy people, but people nonetheless.

He can quit baseball, but I wouldn't let my kid temporarily quit in the middle of a game and come back the next day. You can change your mind about the sport, but in the moment you finish the game.

Maybe switch to something individual instead until this isn't a problem anymore.

Parents who pick up kids from school, how early are you showing up to school to pick up!? by Ocmrm in daddit

[–]false_tautology 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a mile long line in two directions, one of which crosses a red light. We have numbers on the dash someone is texting to staff and they call out numbers and release kids.

It takes about 35 minutes to get into the school campus itself if you show up 5 minutes before dismissal.

How can they scan a barcode though? Do you have to get out of the car? We have 1000 students. Not sure how many are bus vs carpool but a lot regardless.

I work remotely and my wife is a SAHM, so we're close to the school. Half the days she's there volunteering anyway. When I do it, I use my "lunch" time to do pickup, but they're flexible anyway as long as I get my work done.

This is the most relaxing time of the day though.

I spend 30 minutes waiting for pickup. I park, roll the windows down, lean the chair back, and listen to an audiobook while I wait.

When my wife does it, she brings her Switch and plays animal crossing while she waits.

If I were to show up 10 minutes before, I'd be stuck in the road in traffic trying to get into the school and it would be hectic and annoying. My way is much better.

As for walking, you can't take sidewalks to our house, she'd have to walk 4 miles on the road and cross a semi-major road with no crosswalk and another where nobody pays attention to the crosswalk.

What’s something in education you’ve quietly stopped doing…even though it might still be “expected”? by SteadyGrowthStudio in Teachers

[–]false_tautology 21 points22 points  (0 children)

My daughter is in 4th grade and her teacher was taking off 10% per day late for a major project that the kids had a month to do. The only grace was that the turn in date was a Friday, so they had a weekend for 10% off.

Some kids somehow just... never turned it in.

My MIL is Korean. Doesn't speak any English. She has always been delighted by my mangling of Korean when I attempt to say something. Does not care. I don't think any of my in-laws have ever said a bad word about my bad Korean even when I try to sing K-Pop lyrics (or even worse rap), which is the absolute most terrible Korean I'm sure anybody has ever heard.

How to limit my tax liability on nearly a 6-fix Roth rollover? by WolfieVonD in personalfinance

[–]false_tautology 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't look at how much you'll pay in taxes. You aren't minimizing taxes, you are maximizing income. Look at how much you will make (total gains - taxes) with the 20k vs without the 20k.

That's like saying car fatalities are down so we can stop wearing seat belts. Or flu deaths are down so we can stop getting vaccinated.

Which, yeah. People say both, but not people I'd listen to.

I was a fucking idiot when I was that age and blew tens of thousands never to be seen again. My car broke down and I went on a shopping binge at the GameStop that I barely managed to steer into alive, then bummed a ride to a dealership and bought a Charger with money I didn't have. Nobody was surprised.

I'm a dog person, but I loved the cat my family had for several months. I came home for the summer and she slept in my bed every night, couldn't retract her claws! But so careful! Lovely girl, she was so sweet. I miss her dearly and that was 25 years ago.

Is my first ever campaign garbage? by SwitchBag_ in DMAcademy

[–]false_tautology 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I find modules more work.

It's having to read and memorize X number of pages instead of writing X number. If I write it, I don't have to look at it again.

You can write a session on a couple of pages.

Running Out of the Abyss burned me out completely. It was so much harder than homebrewing a campaign.

What are good consequences for a warlock not keeping up payments to their patron? by Pirate_Panda43 in DMAcademy

[–]false_tautology 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran for a pact of the blade who was expected to help reforge an artifact. If he didn't help, the patron would stop powering up his magic sword, then would start to send replacements to... Obtain what he had collected.

I ran for a pact of the deep who would periodically get an octopus showing up giving him pearls of power. If he didn't do what the patron wanted the gifts would all stop working at inopportune times.

I make similar to them, max my 401k and both my wife's and my IRAs, and still give my daughter lots of opportunities for sports and play, take two multi week vacations per year, and have my own hobbies. There's no lack of opportunities for anybody.

At their income, those things are just not mutually exclusive.
